  • A NEW LOOK AT AN OLD NEIGHBORHOOD: KAMPONG BHARU KUALA LUMPUR. UTAR STUDIO 6 URBAN INTERVENTION & STUDY.
A NEW NORMAL LOOK AT AN OLD NEIGHBORHOOD: STUDY OF KAMPONG BHARU KUALA LUMPUR AND IT’S FRINGES.
WHAT KINDS OF SPACE ARE WE WILLING TO LIVE AND WORK IN NOW?"
“The pandemic is a problem that is going to be solved by medicine and not cured by architecture. But notions of flexibility are the way that our studio is going to forward. It isn’t just the virus; it is the change of the speed society, where [the old] architecture [was] too slow to react, and very geo-fixed and heavy and expensive”
    (Elizabeth Diller, architect) "
Currently the world is being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it is said to be harmless, due to its low mortality rate, its infectivity is very worrying. Almost all countries have been infected by this virus with tens of millions of people. Although the mortality rate is low, the number who died has touched the millions. Researchers say that this virus spreads between humans. To prevent this, encounters between individuals must be limited. As a result, many countries have adopted policies to close their doors to citizens of other countries. Countries that rely on tourism money face huge issue of unemployment and loss of income for its citizen.
Areas with a high number of patients, referred to as red zones, even forbid residents to leave their homes or residential units. As a result, many residents cannot work because their workplaces are outside their residential units. Foodstuffs are scarce for regions that are unable to produce agricultural and livestock products, while agricultural areas experience a massive surplus because their produce cannot be sent outside the region. In addition, settlements that are not equipped with social facilities are also threatened with degradation of community life.
These travel restriction policies make the regions have to prepare all the necessities of life for their citizens. These needs include housing, work, schools, recreation areas, social spaces including agricultural spaces which will supply food needs for all its citizens. The workforce that lost their job need to be retrain in various other skills to improve their employability or entrepreneurial skills.
Working patterns of our cities do not support to put the spread of the virus under control. New protocol needs to be implemented and adjustment made to design of spaces creating ARCHITECTURE OF THE NEW NORMAL

Interesting design! Allowing natural ventilation and natural sunlight makes the whole design looks lively and views to most of the angle from the proposed building. The entrance and center plaza looks welcoming and attracting. Overall design its good!

This is not an over the top extreme project. It's parametric, precise and elegant without the exuberance. Projects must follow these lines. There are some precisions to be made on the structural system. Those are minor details that could be calibrated on those cantilevers. The project looks constructible.

This is our 3rd year students work. One of the better one. Of course being in the third year, they are still learning, especially the technical part. However their willingness to explore new ways of looking at the project is commendable. I agree with you that the project is totally construct-able.

masha allah you have a good approach, however if you can specify scientific mesurments for each diagram, then you can expand the boundries of your observations and see more possibilities to solve the design , espesially when it comes to investigating the spatial design , you may achieve and integrate more functions and expressions of art just because your diagrams are measurable.
