My wife was such a strong independent person. When she got cancer. She withered away but I always saw her as beautiful as the day I met her. One day I was picking her up from our bed to put her in our bathtub. With tears in her eyes she turned to me and said thank you. I was totally confused. I didn’t understand why she would thank me. I thought I understood why she was sad. So I asked her. Thank you for what??? She replied for not leaving and staying with me. I replied with the only thing I thought which was, where would I go? Where would I be without you. I never understood why she said that at the time. But years later I see things like this. To me there was no option to not be there. I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I would be by her side no matter what happened. I miss her. She was the kindest person I ever met. It was my honor to take care of her. I only wish I could have had more time to take care of her. I wish I could pick her up again. Hold her. Talk to her. Life is to short. Tell your loved ones how you feel about them.
Your comment really touched my heart. Everyone should be so fortunate to love unconditionally. You are a good man and from what you described, you had a wonderful wife.
@@barrylyndon80 like literally i got my acl fully torn and legit got to know who would actually care about me enough to help me out with basic stuff i was even scared of asking for help cause i have always been "oh so independent" and I'm just scared they would have to help me and just leave me if they have to do too much work idk maybe i don't wanna know who my "real" friends are
"why didn't you help me when I asked you for help?" "I knew you'd be fine" "I wasn't fine" "you're fine now" This was how it went with my family. And they ask me for help a lot.
Oh FK off… I was paralyzed for a year with a spinal injury… It doesn’t show me who was a true friend of not, what it showed me is that not everyone is capable of doing certain things in life, and that’s totally OK, that I have no place to judge those who aren’t capable of doing things I may need when I need them… that they have their own things going on in life and might not be able to handle it, or perhaps trauma in the past, or maybe they’re afraid… Regardless, if things like this make you judge others because of where you’re at rather than open your eyes to everyone else’s realities in life, you’re a selfish, narcissistic, piece of SHT.
Texas_Raised_ Texas Made When you make the decision to spend the rest of your life with someone, you’re committing to _“... for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”_ the moment you say “yes”. People and especially women, have lost touch with the true core values of marriage. The social acceptance, of “keeping it real”, does nothing more but to make people irresponsible, weak and above all selfish.
@Texas_Raised_ Texas _Made I keep my commitments. That's not how boundaries work. We set boundaries in advance, not after the fact. So yeah, the day someone comes home after an event like this, when they are the most vulnerable, when they need you most, to leave them and to make the situation all about you, that makes you absolute trash. There's no humanity in an action like that.
When i got leukemia, my relationship didn't last long either, my friends stopped calling me, and suddenly, i was all alone. I had lucky with my mom though, even though she hadn't a driver license, she always managed to be there by my side every single day. She passed away almost two years ago and it's been very hard for me since then. But i try to move on, step by step, day by day...
@DEEPAK KUMAR Hi man, i'm okay, just needed a PET-Scanner where they can see if i have other tumors etc.. But the scanner was clean! So i'm pretty happy about that. The GVHD has relapsed a bit sadly enough, but i'm taking my medication. I'm always staying strong, or try to at least, and i try to stay positive 😎 Hopefully everything is okay with you !
God bless that mother. Husband left her while pregnant. Lost oldest son in a wreck at just 20 years old. Then almost loses her other...never once heard the “why me?” I think he gets his strength and positivity from his mother! ❤️❤️❤️

My heart aches for this young man...first he loses his brother, then his ability to walk, then his fiance because she couldn't handle it...if he can get through this, he can get through anything...i have a profound respect and admiration for him....God Bless
Hang in there Ash - my younger sister has been paralyzed her entire life (birth injury). Never a "why me". She lives on her own in NYC. Doctors told us she wouldn't live past 16 - now at 68 she is still going strong. Love and blessings from Florida And God Bless your mum.
tswaw15 I give her credit for being able to admit she couldn’t handle his disability. Better to be honest than to hang in there and be resentful. I hope she has no guilt for her decision.
chris Barnett it has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with attitude Everyone is different and everyone has different goals and dreams. I’m sure all of us would love to say we would stand by someone we love if they went through something like this but we have no idea what that’s like. I don’t agree with his ex fiancé but that’s life It is brutal and unfair but we all have to make our own way and live with our choices.
chris Barnett - Most young men who are good looking would never even conceive of dating a woman of character who has a severely disabled body. I’m going to guess you don’t even know anyone who has pursued or continued a relationship pre marriage with a disabled woman. Ashley is an amazing man and deserves a woman who is his equal and loves him as he is. He has been forced in life’s pressure cooker at an early age and is an inspiration to those who are disabled, but more importantly is a great asset to all people.
We're happy that Ashley's story is having such a positive effect on so many of you. At Attitude, we're about supporting and encouraging others to live to their full potential so discouraging or abusive comments will be deleted.
This story will make people stay or become more optimistic, and content with their lives like I always say don't sweat the small stuff. Worry about the big stuff.🤗❤
Please follow Ashley's journey and allow us to as well. It would be so uplifting and inspiring to others with spinal injuries. He's an absolute fighter and determined. His journey is worth following.
Susan Rapley My husband and I are old now, in our 70s married a lot of years....he does everything for me...a few years ago a. Friend asked me what she should do, stay with her husband or go live with this other man.....I told her to stay with the one who will be there to care for you when you are old or sick....she picked the other man....never told her she was making a big mistake.....he won't be there for her when she is old and wrinkly.
What an amazing, admirable young man. If my sons grow up to be half the man he is, I’d be the happiest mother on the planet. A big credit to his wonderful mother who has held it down for him through the ups and downs❤
I fell 30’ from a tree 5 months ago. I had a L1 burst fracture along with SCI. I also tore my LCL, MCL and ACL. Had no bladder or colon control and totally numb through my entire hip region. It’s been a fight and will continue to be a fight as you know all too well. Still going through my PT but we are still here! Stay at it Bro!
I fell 30' last August and landed on a sawhorse. T-12 burst fracture. I'm in the same boat with bowel/bladder and very limited leg movement. Stay strong, sounds like we're in this together!
My college friend’s son had a stroke at 17 yrs old, and is a quadriplegic with minimal movement in his left arm. After hospital and rehab, he is now, 3 yrs later, a college freshman! Anything is possible! And yes, your princess is most definitely out there!
I would love to see Attitude turn this into a series that follows Ashley’s recovery. It would also show his journey as a newly disabled person learning how to adapt from being a disability support worker to being a part of the disability community. I think it would be quite interesting!
My husband has recently had a C4 injury and would love to have follow up episodes as very helpful to watch and see others who are so positive in their approach to this type of injury!! Keep going, stay strong and believe!!
Ashley, I suffered a severe spinal injury and a deforming arm injury the same day. I am able to walk now after a long fight. I understand your grief and feeling the losses. One thing I'm grateful for, is the dramatic change in my heart. I'm a better person since my accident. Appreciate more, love more, more compassionate, empathetic, giving, understanding...so much more appreciative of everything. Would I change my injuries, No. Because I love me better now. Your making amazing progress! Keep pushing.
With all due respect your spinal chord injury was not that severe. You can walk. That's like saying others with the same tyoe of injury as your severe injury just weren't trying hard enough. And that's not true. I spent 6 months in a hospital rehab setting. If i had actually been able to walk out the doors i would've. But i couldn't. And my injury is permanent. Same as most of us SCI peeps. We will never be strong enough to walk. And i don't mean mentally. It's not even strength. My legs move. I can pivot. But the messages from my brain travel down the spinal cord. Since my cord has been permanently dsmaged there is no strengthening involved. The spinal cord is a nerve. You can't do anything physically to make a nerve stronger. I hope you take this message to heart. And think about your what words you can use to better explain your injury for i am convinced it was never a spinal cord injury. You were lucky.
You jump out a 3 story house trying to keep from burning to death n tell me what it does to your back. I already had damage, I hit so hard even the tissue around my spinal cord was destroyed. U think I walked over night? N when I was able, was told it only temporary. And it is. Because of the damage to my entire back, from neck to L2, it's all deteriorated. I'm ready to go back to assistance. Only vertebrate salvaged was L1. The nerve damage is crippling, my kids dress my feet and help put my pants on my legs. But, u didnt know that b4 u judged me. No one can be positive, u gotta see the negative in everyones comments when it wasnt intended at all. Everyone offended...but your implying I was being rude is damn offensive.
@@michelleparadis7284 a spinal cord injury has very little or nothing to do with your back. Your back is a bone. I broke my neck at C5/6 so my injury is quite high. When i broke my neck bone it punctured my spinal cord. Hence even tho my injury is considered incomplete - i will still never walk. Ever. And that's not because i'm not strong or i gave up. The outcome would be the same no matter what i did.
@@denisepaulsenful didnt say it was. But when u smash your vertebrates so hard against your spinal cord from the impact of a 30 foot fall, it damages your spinal cord. Dont tell me My injuries....we good???
@@denisepaulsenful did I ever ever insinuate anyone didnt try? Or was lazy? Nope! Read into what u want. Your negativity is a downer....try seeing the positive for a bit....might change your shitty attitude.
I just suffered an SCI early September. I totally understand your level of grief and loss. I was an active dancer, performer, educator most my life... and now my world has been completely turned upside down. 😢 Sending healing energy to us both. 🙏🏾
Some people can be so fickle and only think about themselves ( unfortunately)! I am a caregiver because my philosophy is this I don't know what's in store for me, I just want to share kindness and compassion to others!
I am relieved that you didn’t injure the cervical spine any higher because you could have lost your ability to speak and breathe without a ventilator. But, that didn’t happen. So use your voice that was spared to continue reaching out and teaching us all what it means to really live. You are an inspiration, my friend. Thank you, Ash.
Australia and New Zealand have some of the absolute best para sport/special Olympics teams in the world. I hope he finds a way to get involved with them. Even coaching is an amazing thing he can do.
Seeing Ashley struggle to get in the car really hit me. What a lovely friend and friends he has. And his Mum is the best. This young man will achieve so much. He has a great support network around him.
My SCI is C5/6 quadriplegic, I was told I’d never walk again and I’m paralyzed from the chest down. You truly are an inspiration to me. I really don’t know how to describe it. You have a great personality and your outlook on life is great. You have a wonderful mom that is always there for you. You have a wonderful group friends that have never left your life. I honestly don’t know where I’d be at if it wasn’t for my family. Just watching this video took like 20 pounds of bricks off my chest. Like I said I don’t know how to describe it but you truly are an inspiration to me. You should look up Project Walk. I think you’d really benefit from that. Keep that positive feeling you have and there’s no doubt you’ll make it far in their world.
Google Unique Access Medical for spinal cord injury. There are people with similar SCI who are able to walk again after undergoing surgery to implant an Epidural Stimulator.
Sometimes I forget just living my daily life that the senses are truly a gift and not a right and to not take them for granted. So much inspiration in this chat!
It seems that all tragedy is laid upon a huge range... I am a retired educator /counselor and end-of-life/ bereavement specialist for children(0-18, most being under 13) with cancer and for their families. Watching your story, I take a breath of relief that you are a survivor, Mr. Ashley, and that you are not battling the traitorous killer that put children through the hell of treatment, and at worst, killed them...some 3, or 6,, or 10, or 16 year-olds -- Many of "my" kids who are not here any more spent time in wheelchairs, and they would happily stay there in their chairs for the rest of their lives, if it meant that they could still be with their families, and the people they loved... You are a WONDERFUL example of independence, hard earned and absolutely deserved! BRAVO for simply...going forward without losing the spice and spark you always had, and more. Why? ... Really, who the hell knows. One plods forward, and takes the little beauties of life...there are so many. Many, many cheers!
People keep craping on the fiance, though I wouldn't leave. It is probably better that she left rather than have things go south later on. Imagine if she stayed, was his primary care provider, and then left. That happens a lot, yes it's still a bad situation but at least he is learning to do things by himself and now when he finds the right person they will already see and know what challenges he needs help with and what he can do solo. I deal with a chronic invisible illness and my husband and I while dating went through the rough part of being a caregiver. We have worked together and with help so now we have good day tasks and bad day tasks. For example on a good day I am pretty self-sufficient, I need help with certain tasks but very minimal. On a bad day it's hard for me to get up to use the restroom. Now he is in the military and we have been setting things up for me to do things on my own on bad days as well as good days.
I agree Amber. Also we are not privy to how the relationship was going before this happened. Just because they were engaged does not automatically mean a great relationship...and hey...people handle things differently. We shouldn't bag her too much
Ive heard of and experienced healing while reading the Bible out loud so definately do that every day. I had neck pain so bad I could only sleep on my back and it vanished while I was reading the Bible out loud. I felt so much stronger my bones , joints and every thing. You can look up healing scriptures on utube or maybe all the Bible is healing I don't know. 🤗
I became a paraplegic at the age of 18, I turned 19 in ICU on life support in a coma. It has been 31 years and I can honestly say I’ve had a great life. Attitude is everything when something like this happens. I live independently and I do almost everything I did before. I may have to do things differently but I usually figure out a way to do the things I love. Honestly the toughest thing has been dealing with people that don’t know me. It’s the looks/stares and sometimes the words they will say to you. I’ve learned to just ignore it and show people I’m just like them, I just use a chair to get around.
That reminds me that I should be pissed off more often. There's people, who lost the function of their dick right after becoming grown up and they still don't complain. I don't want to become like that. I want to be righteously outraged at the awfulness of the world.
Gosh! If I was 40 years younger, I would marry him myself (not that such an amazing man would want to marry me). What a kind and sweet man. They are very rare these days. May God richly bless you, your mom, and all of the people who love you just the way your are!
I said the same thing. If I was 20 years younger I would pursue this man. What a beautiful soul. He is going to make some lucky lady a wonderful husband!!
@@ashleytreseder9491 I was going to say the same things as these other ladies Ashley....I think the message is we more "mature" ladies know what true love is...and trust me when I tell you the woman who ends up with you is going to be very very lucky!
True love doesn’t often happen in the exuberance and beauty of youth. True love is formed through life’s trials and tribulations and growing together. You absolutely witness true love on this video watching Ashley’s mother and learning a bit about her story. The fiancé is only a side note to his life.
I met my bf after he lost his leg in a accident aged 30 .. hes now 38 .. hes amazing funny and sexy ...4 years together and still see no disability only strength and resilience
the truest-purest kind of love is extremely rare. Someone that you would devote your entire life, to basically become that persons 2nd skin, to live their life as your own. I don't know if I could do it. I think I could, but the person I would become isn't the person I am now. I would definitely need to mature and I would need to very quickly. . I hope I never have to make such a decision.
Puts everything into perspective for me and what I’m dealing with. Someone always has it worse. Be thankful every day for everything you have bc it can be taken away.
As a doctor, I have seen few cases of young people with spinal cord injury. Of course it is difficult for everyone to overcome a trauma like this, but I think it is more challenging, emotionally talking, for this joyful people, who are adventurous and enjoy outdoors and extreme activities. . Also, I admire how they have this energy, strenght and wild spirit which continues fighting hard for life and happiness. God bless all people who are enduring spinal cord injury.
God bless this man and everyone around him helping him acclimate to his new normal. My Grandad was a paraplegic so this really hits home for me. P.S. My Grandad was told he would never walk again, My Aunt was getting married and he was determined to "walk her down the isle and give her away" and by God!! He had a special frame made which he had to have physio for were talking months of intense work.. pain, tears, sweat... and he walked his daughter down the isle...
The story is so motivational. What I really really admire about him is that he may not be the most loud and outspoken individual in this video, but he’s got such a quiet confidence. And many people out there need to know that it’s OK to have that quiet confidence. I just know in my heart that he is going to do some pretty spectacular things. And this is just the first step. I have cerebral palsy myself. And I’ve learned that the biggest limitation in your life is you, yourself. He doesn’t have that limitation. At least not all the time. I really really admire him. You got this!!
Just had a huge crash broke my back and ankle. I’m 60 years old, exercised compulsively for 35 years. So grateful I can still move my legs and arms. I’m in recovery. Thank you for the inspiration.
Watching your story after my brother's spinal cord injury, I just wanted to know how a person can handle all this without any mental/emotional breakdown. Such a great story, I have learnt how to support my brother in future.
A friend of mine, close friend of my brother, a quadriplegic since he had polio at age 13, died recently at age 79. He was married to his second wife and had grown children. He controlled a huge, complicated wheelchair-type conveyance by blowing into a tube. He drew and painted-was a successful artist-by holding pens and brushes in his mouth. Used a computer. He was very, very seriously injured but with the physical help of others and the strength of his own personality , he lead a really great life. A man like you, with a zest for life, will too.
Its NOT "just depression"....my bf has it, I've seen it can be as debilitating as this, please don't discount your own challenges as "just", much live to you, please have a great life ahead of you
My brother just became a paraplegic after he severed his spinal cord a few days ago. I’m truly lost on how to remain a rock for him. But seeing this gives me hope he will find a rewarding life from a wheelchair. My heart is in pieces for him tho.
You be there as a sibling. Simple as that. You help if needed(ask first tho….ALWAYS ask), prepare for some explosions, and anger directed at you simply cos you’re there and just resolve not to bite back. You try to understand things from his pov, both emotionally and physically.
I started watching this story feeling absolutely devastated for you, by the end I was thinking you’ve got this! You’re totally smashing it!!! Just proves that nothing should stop you from achieving great things in life.
When I was 24 my life change das an injury has left me disabled. Like you I had a full on life and then no job my husband cheated on me etc etc. I adapted now I have a great guy in my life, etc. It does get better
What an amazing attitude this guy has. The love he has for his mom is so wonderful. Not sure if you ever heard of Joni Erickson -Tada from the U.S.A. She had a spinal cord injury when she was 17. She is a quadriplegic and in her 60’s now. She has a wonderful ministry of educating the world about people in wheelchairs. God turned her life into something so beautiful by looking at life and people in a different way. She has helped me to rejoice and be thankful when life seemed hopeless. Praying for you and your mom as your continue your journey. 🙏🏻
Love, love, love Joni!!! She is the best! She also has a beautiful voice, sings, and is on daily radio programs around the U.S. and the World. Biggest heart in the World, and spreads God's love and the message of Salvation wherever she goes or you hear her voice. Would be awesome if they could strike up a friendship, even if only over Skype of ZOOM, as I didn't hear anything about God, our faith in Him, spirituality, Heaven, Scripture, Church, etc. Not judging, lest we be judged by the same mete and meter (measurements, same yard stick, if you will). If he doesn’t have nerve pain he will be ok, honestly. When they took me off pain meds in the hospital in rehab I noticed a little pain in my left knee. That pain was tolerable for about 15 years although it was getting much worse and spreading. After that point as the pain progressed I was no longer able to exercise or even sit for a few hours at a time. It’s 24/7 pain that is torture and hits all over my hips and especially thighs and knee. It can be so severe that i am hospitalized. I can no longer go out and it has taken a toll on my body which causes other problems because of the stresses. Many people with spinal cord injuries don’t have this severe chronic neuropathic pain and they can lead decent lives and stay active. If that’s the case here then I wholeheartedly believe he will do fine. It’s by no means a easy injury to live with with or without pain, but without the pain a decent life is absolutely possible. Best of luck.
It’s been a year since you posted and I’m wondering how you are. I’ve been in pretty severe sciatic pain for 1+ yr now. (History of back and sciatic injury and surgeries but I had 2 wonderful, minimal pain years until a year ago.) You’re right, this nerve pain is horrendous. I’m mostly home bound, on meds that get less and less effective over weeks and months. I’m trying 1 more thing before doing a spinal cord stim trial. Have you been diagnosed with CRPS? It sounds like it with the spreading pain you’ve experienced. Please know I’m thinking of you and understand your pain.
I’m in horrendous pain if I don’t move at all I’m ok, but trying to move is literally like being stabbed repeatedly in my back. It’s so painful you can’t move you can’t cry you just sob. I have a morphine pump that eventually will ease this but not take it away. But watching your story has made me want to try harder to Appreciate what I do have. I can go to the bathroom on my own when I want to, I can change positions on my own, I can feed myself all these things I took for granite. Watching your struggle is heartbreaking. But watching you Fight is Motivational and life saving For Me. I will no longer do optical racing I won’t even be able to walk around the block, but I Can Walk. You’ve really woke me up I was thinking about checking out. But now I’m counting my blessings. I’m sorry that watching you struggle gave me hope but I see you fight which shows me I can fight. Thank you for your video and don’t be crushed about your girlfriend your Person is out there and when you find her it will be unbelievable. I’ve been married 31 years and my person is Everything to me. Hang in there, please.

Hi Ashley, I'm not sure that this will make sense, but you talked about something always happening for a reason....but still not being sure what that was. Watching your video I saw a man who put a lot of emphasis on physical strength (via working out/the gym/what you physically looked like).... Then I saw a man, after the accident, that grasped life with both hands and showed an enormous amount of personal/internal/emotional strength. I image that your video and your positive attitude to life will be something that will help many people who find themselves in similar situations, and perhaps the good you will do for others could be seen as the reason....that YOU are a man that is strong enough to take on the job of demonstrating to others (and yourself) that whatever the circumstances you find yourself in, you can make the best of it...and thrive. I wish you well in your continued journey in learning how to manage this next stage of life.
Thank you for this video. Your video mirrors my brother’s struggles following his SCI, as well as the active lifestyle he lived prior to his injury. It’s comforting to know we aren’t alone. 💚
Ashley you are remarkable and amazing! After what you’ve been through your zest for life is incredible. You no doubt will overcome this handicap and will be an inspiration to many who don’t have your kind compassionate spirit!!
Ash, I too suffered from a spinal cord injury in my lower spine. You are the first RUclipsr I have seen who has such an injury. When I was 18 I injured myself in an accident at home. The pain was unbelievable yet my legs were numb and difficult to walk on. I kept falling down or collapsing because my legs wouldnt hold me up. The doctors told me that my spinal cord was badly damaged and they expected me to end up in a wheelchair before I was 25. Well i have only just gone into a wheelchair...and I'm 57! All the years inbetween I WALKED! I admire your tenacious attitude Ash, you fight back and make your body give you every damn ounce of strength it can.miracles happen every single day. Never give up, never back down, and keep a smile on your face at all times. You're a winner, with or without wheels! God bless you Ash. I will be praying for you. From a fan in South Wales. UK.
Beautiful mumma. You can have an amazing active life back to where you was .. ( just a little different approach to it ) mate . See you in the future hopefully cracking the records that You want to and can do . Love from Australia 🇦🇺 . Xx
What fool would give a thumbs down, it just astounds me. What a wonderful story on a wonderful man, I wish you so much love and happiness in life !!! xox
Ashley I am a TBI traumatically brain-injured person. My first one was October 11th 1978. I've had several since then. When I woke up from the first one I never considered that I wouldn't get back to some form of normal. I was a experienced special ed teacher. That served me very well. As I was going through therapy I did everything they told me and more than they told me. I never had a concept of not recovering as fully as possible. 13 years later I graduated as a doctor of Chiropractic. You can do and become anything that you set your mind to. I'm so proud of you for being that persistent guy. You are a prime example of an overcomer. God bless you and your mom and everybody whose lives you touch through this recovery.
The reason you are here my friend is obvious - you are a teacher. For reason only God knows, this is your journey. The wisdom, kindness, and understanding you can impart to others is your service and gift to your fellow people.
I recently broke my c7 by jumping head first into water. Seriously, you have to be careful. I hope many people see this video and take these things seriously. I got lucky, I’ll make a 100% recovery
What a strong young man. My heart went out to his mom she raised her sons alone and did an awesome job, So sorry she experienced such heart ache loosing one son and Ashley accident, you can see where Ashley got his strengths from.
I became very sick 3 years ago. I landed up homebound. But I have to say it has been the best three years of my entire life!!!!! I am a totally different person.
My dear! A broken engagement shattered my life decades ago. I can't imagine having gone through a life changing injury at the same time. I am so impressed with your moral courage.
I hope he miraculously fully recovers or even just gets back to being able to care for himself and has the life of his dreams and meets somone who would never leave him in is time of need that fully really loves him then you’ll see the beauty in it all that happened to you and regardless your life is meaningful
You're an inspiration Ashley. I'm happy you're not giving up. I'm a paraplegic myself so I know how hard the struggle can be. I was injured in a car accident in 2007. It's been 12 almost 13 years now and sometimes it's hard but we just have to keep going and never give up.
I'm a mother and the words about your mother brought me to tears. I'm disabled because of complications from a back surgery. My limitations are nothing compared to yours, I'm inspired by you for my kids!
You’re amazing Ash, It must be a difficult process to go through so many changes... I recently broke it off with my fiancé of 3 yrs and it’s been a life changing moment of personal growth, but it can be done right! Keep on fighting the good fight and remember that God doesn’t give you more than you can take... this will lead you to greater things you thought impossible! Greetings from TEXAS ❤️
What a absolute inspiration. Family, and good friends mean everything. Wonderful true Mother. Keep reaching it's there for you. Your incredibly positive outlook will carry you far. Bless you Sir!🙏🙋♂️
It's heartbreaking that his fiance left him. I'm just glad that he learned now that she wouldn't have lasted through the part of the vow that says "through sickness and in health". He'll find his Queen one day and she'll show him a love that he's never known.💜
What an inspiration. I have a degenerative spinal condition that will put me in a wheelchair one day. But watching Ash deal with his situation, without time to prepare, gives me hope of something close to a normal life when my time comes. He’s a credit to his wonderful mother who obviously raised a resilient, resourceful and adaptable son. She should be proud of herself as well as him. Keep working, Ash. You’re a star
Your Mother is a real Mom, that is what we are supposed to be like. You are so great yourself and I wish you all the best and a great recovery!!! you are a great inspiration, keep up the great spirit and stay focused!

Getting seriously hurt or getting sick with a serious Illness really shows you who the real friends are.
Even with a minor knee injury some people avoid you, because they are afraid you could ask for help.
@@barrylyndon80 like literally i got my acl fully torn and legit got to know who would actually care about me enough to help me out with basic stuff
i was even scared of asking for help cause i have always been "oh so independent" and I'm just scared they would have to help me and just leave me if they have to do too much work idk maybe i don't wanna know who my "real" friends are
it's so painful when you are left with barely any support or friends because of something like this. it happens.
"why didn't you help me when I asked you for help?"
"I knew you'd be fine"
"I wasn't fine"
"you're fine now"
This was how it went with my family. And they ask me for help a lot.
Oh FK off… I was paralyzed for a year with a spinal injury…
It doesn’t show me who was a true friend of not, what it showed me is that not everyone is capable of doing certain things in life, and that’s totally OK, that I have no place to judge those who aren’t capable of doing things I may need when I need them… that they have their own things going on in life and might not be able to handle it, or perhaps trauma in the past, or maybe they’re afraid…
Regardless, if things like this make you judge others because of where you’re at rather than open your eyes to everyone else’s realities in life, you’re a selfish, narcissistic, piece of SHT.
You will find out who is sincere & genuine when tragedy strikes
@Texas_Raised_ Texas _Made She's a garbage human.

There’s a young gentleman who was a med student after a car accident had the same injury. He finished his medical school, he is a doctor now.
When i got leukemia, my relationship didn't last long either, my friends stopped calling me, and suddenly, i was all alone. chris Barnett it has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with attitude
Everyone is different and everyone has different goals and dreams. I’m sure all of us would love to say we would stand by someone we love if they went through something like this but we have no idea what that’s like.
I don’t agree with his ex fiancé but that’s life
It is brutal and unfair but we all have to make our own way and live with our choices.
chris Barnett - Most young men who are good looking would never even conceive of dating a woman of character who has a severely disabled body.

Thank you Marina. That means alot! Never give up 🙏🏼💪🏽
Is that why people kill themselves? To remove the biggest limitation?
I give him a lot of credit he does better in every day life in a wheel chair then I do and I just have depression.
Keep strong my friend 💪
Sorry Tom. Me too
Depression can be life changing too, as I’m sure you’ve experienced. I hope you’re feeling better now one year later :)
Its NOT "just depression"....my bf has it, I've seen it can be as debilitating as this, please don't discount your own challenges as "just", much live to you, please have a great life ahead of you
❤️❤️❤️
Go Ashley! You are such a bad ass! Your toughness mentally and physical is awesome! Wishing you all the greatest!!
Thank you so much 💪🏽🙏🏼
What a beautiful relationship between mother and son.. She loves him so much so unconditionally 💗 ❤ 💕
So sorry to hear about your brother’s accident.❤ I hope the you are all experiencing a lot of love & support as you work through the trauma.
Ashley, you have a life to get out and live and you have a very special lady , your mum, whose got your back. Take care matey, xxxx
Stay safe, from your eternal sister in Christ somewhere near Seattle and around the World, ok?

I was going to recommend Joni to him also. @Ashley go to Joni and Friends.
Telling people about the dangers of “FUN” is a much needed conversation. The young feel invincible, while not realizing the reality of injuries. Here’s hoping for a recovery of miraculous possibility. 🤗
The determination in this man's life is out of this world. Im proud of him. It wouldn't surprise me if he was able to walk in the future. Anything is possible
What an amazing story of perseverance! His mom is a true blessing and gift! The love he has for her says so much! I wish him the very best that life has to offer on this next journey of his life!
God bless this mother and her 2 sons .... I believe Ash is so strong and so resilient because he’s doing this for his brother. ❤️
100% I think of him constantly 💙🙏🏼
24:30 "Mum's mum... Yeah, how do you say it? Mum's... I've always said it, never been afraid of, you know, being a mama's boy. She's beautiful. Mums my world. The most generous and kind, selfless person I've ever met in my life.
She only tells me these things now that I'm older. But she would go years without buying a single item of clothing for herself. Just to give me and my brother everything that we ever needed. You know, LOVE MUM 😍👍"
I totally agree. My mom is the same. She now has my kids for short term while I am going through debilitating mental illness. You are so strong and inspirational! Stay strong and continue to be an inspiration. Which is only natural. "Hit the ground running" is really what I see. Best of luck and well wishes to you and your friends and family.

Ashley Parkhurst you could go to the Attitude website and contact them directly. I’m sure he’d love to meet you too.
Janet Donald as much as I would love to do that… I would be worried that he would think it was a little creepy! I’m not really sure what I would say either.
@@ashleyparkhurst5005 tell him your story and lift him up and let him lift you up...Your story is NOT creepy Ash...Its your story and I am sure he will embrace you Blessings sweetie ...I have a Ash too...they are beautiful souls
@@blessedbeyond2118 Yes, but what am I supposed to say… Hi my name is Ashley too, I think your ex-fiancé is really stupid. It's humbling that you're able to admit that you were vein before your accident. And oh by the way I think you're super cute! So what do you think about getting to know each other. All of that just sounds really corny!
I found him on Facebook and sent him a message. So we’ll see if he says anything.
Makes you appreciate the family and friends that stick with ya. When I had leukaemia my school friends didn’t drop me, they made sure I was up to date on all the things and my family was in hospital every single day. Takes a village and I’m thankful they all stayed so close.
Hope you have recovered well mate 🙏🏽
I just want to hug his mom. She did an amazing job raising him. Im so Happy his buddies stuck around! You'll find love again because your an awesome genuine guy.
It's great to see how much support you have!
Just you wait doll- I have a good feeling you’re about to meet some incredible people and your life is gonna be completely different!! Just wait sweetie!! Good vibes headed your way!!
Here's hoping 🤞 thank you 😁 🙏🏼
Glad for you that you are in a place with such support. I live in the US and am my mother's carer. Wiped out every bit of savings any of us had.
What a wonderful man, it warms my heart when I hear a young man say beautiful words about their Mums. He would probably never think he would experience both sides of the spectrum of disability. But also what an asset to the disability sector. An amazing spirit, an amazing man
If he doesn’t have nerve pain he will be ok, honestly.
You are 100 percent right, nerve pain is so debilitating 🥲
Stay strong Ashley! Wishing the best for you!
What an incredible and inspirational young man, I'm so impressed. I wish him every blessing and happiness in the world :)
This man is so super handsome, funny and has such a kind personally 💜 What a catch! Any woman would be so lucky to have him. I hope he is still staying strong and positive today xo

I follow Micheal Jeremiasz on facebook. He started tennis at age 6 and became paraplegic after a ski accident at age 20. He is now one of the most famous wheelchair athlete.

What a man, what a mum, what great mates. This guy has the total package. He is rich in so many areas of his life. Damn what a great story.
Thank you for all you do to serve others. My son has autism and having someone like you in his life would mean more than words can say. We need more humans like you in the world.
Me too.
I was a disability support worker before my accident and cared for 5 autistic young men and have all the time in the world for them so please send my love to your son 🙏🏽💙
Wow Carol. Thank you so much. That means alot to me 🙏💙
Thank you for this video. Your video mirrors my brother’s struggles following his SCI, as well as the active lifestyle he lived prior to his injury. It’s comforting to know we aren’t alone. 💚
Thank you. The SCI community has been the best to express everything too and vent. Wish your brother all the best for me! 🙏🏼
UK.
I swear life is so unpredictable.
Omg. This family has gone through so much. God bless them that they are so beautiful.
Beautiful mumma. You can have an amazing active life back to where you was .. ( just a little different approach to it ) mate . See you in the future hopefully cracking the records that You want to and can do . Love from Australia 🇦🇺 . Xx
Thanks so much Sheryl! 🙏🏼 I plan on it 💪🏽

I'ma Vegemite I think because they are sad. Well hoping that is that is why they do it.
Thank you so much 🙏 💙
Ashley I am a TBI traumatically brain-injured person.

I am having anxiety/PTSD disorder. Through the years, i know how important mums are. Love them as long as you can. Time flies fast.
Never ever dive into water unless you know that there’s no obstacles and it’s deep enough!
I recently broke my c7 by jumping head first into water. Seriously, you have to be careful. I hope many people see this video and take these things seriously. I got lucky, I’ll make a 100% recovery
Yes they always say feet first!
What a strong young man. My heart went out to his mom she raised her sons alone and did an awesome job,
So sorry she experienced such heart ache loosing one son and Ashley accident, you can see where Ashley got his strengths from.
Your mum is just super amazingly gorgeous...what a beautiful human being.
I'm a mother and the words about your mother brought me to tears. I'm disabled because of complications from a back surgery. My limitations are nothing compared to yours, I'm inspired by you for my kids!
You’re amazing Ash,
It must be a difficult process to go through so many changes...
Women always leave at the first sign of trouble, they are evil creatures
I hope his fiancée didn’t feel pressure to be his main carer as that is a full-time job.
Honestly, I think he understood her. He stated that he was vain before, perhaps he thought he would have reacted the same way?
Ash, your positive attitude will carry you far. Continue being you and going and moving forward. Great mom! Great friend's!
