Sat at home watching that one jon with a brew in my hand and it still made me feel freezing cold just watching it ! 12 out ten and medals for effort 🥶🎣
Another excellent video Jon, it's not always about winning on days like that but just taking part at times so you can look at anything you have done wrong. In the words of the late great Roy castle you have dedication and devotion Jon so keep up all your hard work m8
@@JonArthur oh yeah! My son is one, I can’t get out any time except when he sleeps, and I’m out tonight. I’m either facing a massive westerly on the Canal Pike Fishing or fishing the Mersey with the same issue! The things we do to get our fix hey…
What a ball ache? Top marks Jon, a proper angler true dedication. I'm to old for all this, and I was 30 yrs you ger I dont think I'd do it. My tackle is cleaned and stored away till Spring. 🥶🥶🥶👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣. Merry Christmas Jon
Hi Jon We all have bad days buddy, some of us more than others. Your turn today, Patent in the wings for a ice cutter maybe, it worked brilliantly 😊 Take care, stay safe, regards to the family, and keep it lit my friend 👍
Even though you are disapointed with the Swim you picked at least you tried. I suppose its always a lottery if it fishes well or not. I love the Ice breaking gadget. Thanks for the insight on how to approach the swim. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your Family.
Hello Jon, a tuff match that in those conditions, liked your ice breaker rig, at least you'll be in a better frame of mind & will set you up when it work's in future matches coming up, you have the skill to work this out have a plan & adapt with the conditions Jon. Regards Dave Regards Dave.
Fair play mate, like the ice cutter. A set of drainage cleaning rods would do the same for those who haven't got a spare pole. I'll hopefully be sitting on a lake this year in Lithuania if it freezes deep enough, 150 mm of ice on a 45m deep section of the lake, no joke. Keep the vids rollin always educational.
I have the drainage rods but found theyre too bendy, but good for a longer way out as I have two sets. Have a nice time overseas. Hope you can do some eskimo fishing!
Nice to see you recovered from. the lurgy and keeping a positive attitude again Jon, I think ice fishing is still better than getting soaked with heavy rain and strong winds like I had in my ol gits match last week, caught just 3.5 lbs then a guy turns up same peg next day and catches a net full over the ground bait I put in that day!!!
great video john as always i dont fish ever in the winter sitting 6 hours to get 15 20 pound is just not me. no winter no rain if i am in a match and it starts raining i usually just go home.
Seems like you're your own worst enemy! We all dwell on the "I should've this, should've that" it's how we learn. Post match analysis! 😂. Great effort going out in those temps in the first place place. If there's ice on the water I'll stay in bed thank you 😂
Cheers Tom, I like sharing my thoughts on when and where I went wrong. Also helps the people who comment afterwards wondering why I didn't do some things!
Another really good film jon. High insight is a wonderful thing. I was wondering did you think of throwing a feeder. Good luck in next match and looking forward too next film.
Sue said ‘that’s funky music for a fishing video’ 👍 I told her I don’t post positive comments usually but with it being Christmas goodwill to all men an all that..😀 Great vid daft lad - that ice breaker is summat else. I think the word is ‘clinical’ Cheers 🍺😀🍌
I've never fished a rover in my life, but having to choose my own peg across a whole complex would cook my brain 😅 An old mate of mine fishes the rovers at Heronbrook over the winter and nine out of ten times its a tale of woe and he telling me he should have sat elsewhere! I'll still draw a cesspit being pegged down, but at least that was my fate rather than choice 😂😂
I can’t remember a match angler in our nativity play at school, just some small people with their mams tea towels Might not have gone well with the fish but you were good at the ice, smashed it…
Hi Jon, I must admit to thinking I was surprised that you didn’t use your ice breaker to start with as it would have stirred up the bottom and with the water so cold that colour would have taken a while to drop out ………but hey I’m just a club angler what do I know !!!!!
See when I break the ice I've got the head of a sledgehammer welded to a chain so I can colour up the water but other anglers prefer not to especially when fishing for f1s my mate uses a fire extinguisher so he breaks the ice but don't drag the bottom he says he doesn't want to disturb the fish I suppose we've all got our own methods of madness lol
I've always coloured it up for silvers, but F1s are a funny one and not always liking the manky bottom churned up on some venues I know. However, yes, next time I would colour it up
Maybe Jon the poor fishing could of been down to all that ice and the bitterly cold weather we had just maybe lol. Still it was a cracking video as usual so thank you very much
@JonArthur always do Jon your a top bloke and a cracking angler thank you very much for all the content this year hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas mate 👍
Hi Jon, good video, on a rover do you get to name a swim or do you have to get there first like a land rush in the old west. We don't have them where I fish.
You ‘draw to draw’ then you pick in turn in the order you drew if that makes sense. So if you draw 3 you are third to draw/choose a peg. You also have to leave a gap so can’t go next peg to someone. And you have to avoid the pleasure anglers who often are already on the flyers. First pick and last pick are generally favoured.
How did the winner go about his match, any idea?dobbin, pole or bomb? Great video, thanks 👍 Those days are still great, outside in the crisp fresh air doing what we love to do, pluses, always gaining the knowledge of the challenging day's ,they are often the most insightful days on the bank.👏💪👍
On this horseshoe-shaped lake I could have walked around the other side and cut a longer channel to the far bank. I had cut 13-14m but it's 17-18m wide and I'm sure the fish were sulking in that corner out of reach.
Great video's John plus it reminds me that I'm not they only mad man that goes in any conditions for his fishing fix!💪
It's just nice to be outside some days... even if it's cold and difficult fishing!
The Ice Man cometh !! I remember you cutting ice like that, a couple of years ago and catching, thanks for posting. Cheers.
Thanks Roland

Nice one Pete
I think I’d have taken one look at the ice and gone home! 10/10 for dedication!
10/10 certified insane ha ha
I think I would of only cut two fingers in the ice😂 looks bitter well done Teflon John👏
😂
10 out of 10 for effort mate- I probably would of gone straight home when I saw the ice😊
Cant blame you!

Glad you enjoyed it from the warmth of your home. Very sensible in hindsight! :-)
Great work again Jon. You can't beat a hard day in the ice! I used to love winter matches on the GU, breaking the ice and catching on worm and joker.
Glad it brought back some nice memories!

Check out the cloud formation above your head when you start cutting the ice Jon , it predicts your swim design 😅
Lovely!
Maybe Jon the poor fishing could of been down to all that ice and the bitterly cold weather we had just maybe lol. Still it was a cracking video as usual so thank you very much
Hmmm maybe ha ha. Glad you enjoyed it!
@JonArthur always do Jon your a top bloke and a cracking angler thank you very much for all the content this year hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas mate 👍
Ice fishing😀
Eskimo madness ha ha
Nice video Jon, struggling with C and a chest infection so no fishing at present. How did you fix the cutter to the pole top
Its an old landing net section that fits on perfectly by pure coincidence. Hope you recover very very soon and have a great Christmas. Take care!
Many thanks for the info and message

The-great Jon Arthur making mistakes? Who would have thought it?
Doh!
Rather you than me Jon .🐟 what’s happened to the freddos 😮👍🥃
They dont last long in our house!
Thoroughly enjoyed it but If, maybe, perhaps ?? Come on Jon put your hands up Mate.
Put my hands up what? Ha ha. Always ifs buts and maybes and important to share them rather than keep it to myself

Im not 100% sure how he won Im afraid. Think a mixture of pole and bomb.
It's not like that in Thailand 😅
I'd hope not ha ha
Go around other banks?

It's the uncertainty that drives us on 😮,,
Absolutely
More an ASMR video than a fishing one 😂
I had to look that up. Also hope your H was missing... and not a T!
@@JonArthur Glad to have given something back 🤣 and yes edited now for posterity!

Dedication john I'd have stayed in bed those days have gone for me roll on spring
Seems a long way away Spring!
Unlucky jon you just chose the wrong peg 😢
Maybe...
Lost for words mate.
Good words hopefully :-)
I have a rule. If I have to break ice don’t bother just go home 😂
It froze overnight really fast
Character building or some other nonsense!?
Yep bonkers ha ha
