Great demo at at the end! Totally rocking the socks and sandles look too, love it! It seems one can do a lot with the midi in terms of violin techniques like vibrato, fast scales, etc
Trevor, thanks so much for putting this unboxing together. Thoroughly enjoyable and your solo at the end with the GR55 was stunning. You Rock Amigo 💚 💚 💚 💚
VERY cool to see such a cool MIDI violin setup outside of JamOrigin and Max for live. It definitely sounds like you get the violin to control the MIDI instruments more fluidly right out of the box - I have to customize pitch bend and volume control for each instrument until it works the way I want it to. Right there, the synth definitely sounds like it's coming from a violin, and that musical nuance is where the magic - the beauty - of MIDI violin is. Is there volume control with this setup at all? It sounded like there was pitch bending for sure.
Nick, bro ... thanks for dropping in! The digital synth patches from the Cantini to the GR-55 still do not accept volume changes ... but working on that. What you hear in my solo is the GR Synth Patch ... which is more of an analog synth patch that accepts volume changes with bow + every other violin nuance including pitch bends and vibrato. This is where this technology really shines. Let's keep pushing the boundaries of this MIDI violin journey, bro. T
@@TrevorDick Is the analog synth just an audio effect or is it doing something like control voltage changes? Control voltage (as I understand it) is probably the best way to go about MIDI violin in terms of tracking accuracy but it's limiting in other ways - the volume control and pitch bend aren't data points that can be manipulated digitally. The easy way to achieve pitch bend for digital synths is to use Jam Origin (though it's a bit wonky), and volume control is simply getting the input gain of the violin and then tying to the volume knob of the synth or using MIDI CC #7. The problem here is that digital synths each react very differently to volume and pitch bend changes, so it's a matter of messing around with it until it sounds the way you want it to.
You know the 13 pin input on ALL Roland/Boss gear is analogue? Not digital, not MIDI. Even though the GR55 has two 5 pin din midi sockets (in and out) you cannot trigger its synth via MIDI. That said, beautiful instrument played brilliantly, thanks for publishing.
Hi Trevor! Thanks for the great demo! Technical question, is there any way to get the MIDI signal to the effect processor through a wireless system?? Thanks for your help! D
Hey David, this is the only technology I know about at this point, but I don't think it is released yet: ruclips.net/video/uw9-Y0Psow8/видео.html All the best! T
Thanks. 1. Can Roland GR-55 be used to create an acoustic violin tone too from the Cantini Earphonic? 2. You have used a Cantini ISSP2 wooden bridge in this case? How different do you feel is this one versus the plastic / fiber ISSP2 bridge from Cantini? I'm more inclined to an acoustic violin tone.
If you plug some headphones with a 1/8" to a 1/4" adaptator are you supposed to be able to hear the violin as it is an active one? I have tried it myself and It only sounds when the violin is put at max volume and only does through the left ear.

The only difference I think is clean sound and maybe tracking performance. Could you shoot a comparison video with all Cantini models on clean sound and some tracking comparison?
Dany, a good point. Thanks for weighing in again. I am thinking now that I have 3 generations here of Cantini's that I WILL shoot a comparison video. Hello Sir, really appreciate your reviews. Could you please help me to get a similar fat warm tone on my ns design wav5 violin. Currently I am using boss me80. Could you suggest some good processors if needed to add or upgrade. It will be a great help
Hi Tuhin, you should be able to get a nice warm fat tone from your ME-80 just by "getting into the guts" of that pedal and dialling up all the right settings. I suggest going to this demo here to get you started: ruclips.net/video/0cszY7in4-U/видео.html All the best! Trevor
