Thanks for the demo! I think it's worth noting that none of these violins output MIDI, but rather they output "heptaphonic" audio, that is, per string. The GR-55 itself converts pitch-to-MIDI and is adding most of the latency you're measuring. It probably has the most impact on how well (or poorly) the triggering works, also, which on the GR-55 is very sensitive to how the pickup is configured both for the volume levels of the strings and your playing style. It might be interesting to demo these violins with different sound modules, including the SY-300 / SY-1000, which can do a lot with the "heptaphonic" output from these violins without converting pitch to MIDI.
All of this is true. We don't carry any of those other devices, though, so a demo would be a little bit hard to do. It's easier when I can just grab something off the shelf.
Did I hear the Fourness trigger some ghost tones or did you accidentally hit two strings? I had a Zeta Midi violin back in the mid 2000's and it only worked with their proprietary synth. It looks like these have some a long way!
readers: Midi is awesome... but you will have to learn it! synth is great but just like 1/132 Heavy metal notation.. it's about modeling to the instrument... FYI piano keyboards were not adapted overnight! learning Midi and synth will not be easy but you already know musical foundation and Strings soo... you won't be starting at 0 Side note: Also for the love of god if you buy one and you're good please put out a synth song! made with violin!
Another brilliant comparison. Honest, clear and enthusiastic.
Thanks! That's what we try to do.
