I have a 512 render distance in DH, 32 distance on the vanilla setting, the same shader as thee video and I'm sitting around 100fps with a 3080 and 5600x, higher in small areas and lower if I fly around. DH requires Sodium which improves performance dramatically
@@xmcblxck well distant horizons mod isn't equal to just setting 128 chunks to load, its specific system to render less details in far, but so it still looks ok
@@xmcblxck The way distant horizons works is that the far away chunks aren't actually loaded. It saves the last known appearance of them in a cheap to render format. While a low/mid-range pc would struggle with shaders, you could still run a 'render' distance that's insane compared to vanilla.
No it literally isn't. All it does is increase render distance by adding LOD, something games have been doing for ages. An actual mod worthy of that title would be create mod.

BECAUSE ITS HAARDDD you have NO clue how hard LOD is in a game like minecraft. for it to be effective and performant, you'd need to change how chunk loading works to make it better than loading 600 chunks at once. the only reason LOD exists outside of the box is because the game engine itself supports it. minecraft does not support LOD, so it's way harder for modders to add it in.
Holy shit. In all my years of playing minecraft, i don't think i've ever found something that so accurately captures the fascination and wonder i felt at playing the game for the first time. This truly feels like minecraft's fullest potential. i'm moved.
Same here. I rarely feel excited about anything anymore, but this took me back to those early days playing the browser demo on the Minecraft website. So exciting seeing the mountains in the distance with the ambience from the shaders. Feels like a world I can get lost in again instead of a simulation where I understand all the rules.

The seed is available so you can do it yourself. Our family has been playing along in the hermitcraft seed since season 10 started. It is fun seeing the place where your house or farm is in a hermit's video. Was running iris alphas and dh nightly yesterday and exploring. I usually use bobby with as much render distance as my machine can handle. That looks great at ground level for regular game play . DH+iris is going to be incredible when it matures and there is wider shader support but it is probably more suited to single player for now. I burned through stacks of rockets trying to load chunks in off the server.

Damn I remember the hype when the first shaders came out back in 2010 or so and you had to choose if you wanted slightly better shadows or over the top water reflections because they where not compatible with each other, really came a long way here.
maybike you should try overhauled overworld( wiliam) or expanded ecoshpere with DH, those worldgen mods rlly makes the terrain more realistic, and along with tectonic gives lovely hills and slopes.
this game literally ended the same day it was released, the reason we are still behind it in 2024 is only, only thanks to a community full of capable and passionate people

@@fldom4610 well without shaders (I don't think that Microsoft will ever implement shaders as its not very minecrafty) The performance of DH is pretty impressive plus you can combine modpacks like fabulously optimized for better performance without effecting DH. The real reason minecraft is such a poorly optimized game is because its running on openGL lighting engine which came out in 1992 and is written in java script which is not made for video games in the slightest, and bedrock is a good example of a good render engine (DX12) but very poor game optimization. minecraft is one of the few games that renders objects far away at full detail for no reason at all, making framerate awful even on DX12 at higher render distances. if Microsoft did what DH is doing (with 50x as many people) it would be a very well optimized game, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I want something like distant horizons to be implemented into vanilla minecraft. To this day I do not understand how Mojang hasnt thought of implementing a system that would allow players to see further without a significant amount of lag. in a game where building is the main goal, anybody would want to be able to see their creations from further away
I understand hindsight is 20/20 but I remember years ago asking online why Mojang couldn't make a system that has blocks be lower quality the further away from you they are so you can see things much further. I was bombared with a bunch of comments calling me "retarded" stupid and braindead and while I was told such a thing was impossible. I'm still annoyed about that.
I wonder what the devs would have said if they saw that this is what their game would look like in 15 years.

Dev. Notch was a solo dev. Minecraft was his idea and intellectual property before he sold it and got out. Can't say I blame him.
