I agree! It gets overlooked a lot. I’ve had a couple people tell me they never cared about it until watching my channel. Which feels great. The idea that I can get more people interested in this classic makes me happy.
You've probably already done all the rust repair of the hardware you were going to do, but you can buy rust dissolver for those bolts to get rid of that rust before you paint. Eastwood even makes it in a gel for parts you cant soak, like that hinge.(just be sure to cover it with cling wrap or something like that to prevent evaporation of the product) It works pretty well. Brings the metal back to an almost like new finish. And especially if you are going to paint them, no one would ever be able to tell they grew rust in the 1st place.
Nice. Most people don't know there are different types of Phillips screws(1, 2, and 3). Most people strip out 1, and 3 with a 2 screwdriver. the horseshoe thing is just a snap ring(not sure what specific type). Great work keep the vids coming!!!!
Yeah I'm not super handy and I even know about the different Phillips heads lol. I'm glad I was able to get them out, it wouldn't have been run trying to cut them off haha.
Thanks. Those Blitz cabs almost always seem to have spills on them. They must have been popular in bars lol. The joysticks are more complicated and expensive to replace in those cabs. The 49 way sticks aren't a must but if you're doing a real cabinet restore I'd just get it over with and buy them since that's what it came with.
@@KillerArcadeGames yeah haha I remember playing those cabs at Peter Piper Pizza all the time and seen and experienced many spilled sodas all over them. 🤣
Chris, where's that face off between your Original KI cab versus MAME versus A1UP gameplay ? Can't wait really ! Especially the MAME vs Arcade. Thanks keep up the great vid as usual !
Its coming! I'm going to include it all in my review of the cabinet. Its going to be a big video that's taking a while to record. I decided to go mostly with voice over. I recorded it yesterday and it was around 25 minutes of VO lol! Some of that will be cut because of mistakes though. Just give me some time and I may have it out next week. I want to take my time and do it right.
Nice job man! Looking great so far! I had neither the time nor the knowledge for this project and I love seeing this machine getting the treatment it deserves. I don’t think it could’ve gone to a more passionate fan in the KI community. Great work and I can’t wait to see your upcoming videos on restoring this classic.
I might do a stream tonight, I really don't know what's planned so far but were kind of stuck at home with the ice outside. I'll try and give notice if I do stream.
Hello! Great work on the cabinet. Sry to hear that you needed to replace the orig. artwork. I'll did this with mine a little while ago and was lucky the sticker didn't come off. Mine had that nasty smell too when i'll took the controlpanel appart. Who knows how much beer has been spilled over it... 🙈 So i cleaned all the parts before it becomes new buttons and switches. Its a great game and i love to have the cab. in my collection. 😊
The guy I bought it from contacted me and said he never spilled Dr. Pepper on it and he's owned it since 2001. So that was some classic Dr. Pepper dust for sure hahah! Thanks again for the help Ralph, I appreciate it!
Such a great job man. So glad to see that a true fan has an actual KI cabinet. Happy for you. Also, for that 4 digit price tag for the arcade1up pro, I would totally consider it IF it had an exact copy of the original game, with the Midway and Nintendo as part of the intro.
Thanks, I'm incredibly happy that I got this and fixing it up is just plain fun. I hope they can improve the current Arcade1Up emulation before the Pro. I'm working on my review now. Theres glitches and mostly small issues so far but it feels a little rough around the edges.
@@KillerArcadeGames well I'm definitely looking forward to your review. And heck yeah man keep up the good work with your cabinet. Everytime you start it up it just gives me that good dejavu feeling of being back in the arcade and hearing it from across the room. It's the one thing lacking from the 2013 KI. Really wish it had an attract mode. I'd have that sucker playing on loop lol
@@KillerArcadeGames yes! I've been noticing that with fighting games lately. When you play arcade mode they remove the random opponent and have YOU pick the next fighter. It just kinda seems tedious and takes the excitement of who the next AI challenger will be.
C Clip, that's what the joystick clip is called Chris ;) Coming along nicely. When you are done with it, it will look better than new! Enjoy this sort of content, please keep it coming. Thanks for sharing pal.
Great job man! Looks good! What a difference that makes by doing that little stuff. By the time you are done, you will have almost a new looking K.I. cabinet! Looking forward to seeing you progress with this cool project! Props man!
Thanks for showing how to open the control panel!! FYI, I just picked up my first REAL arcade cabinet. It wasn't exactly what I would have wanted but still a great game for an amazing price. Cruis N' World for $275. She's rough, has some issues and needs a good amount of elbow grease but I'm so excited to get this thing healthy and working how it should. Hopefully I can figure out a way to keep this working with the original PCB but multicade it for the purpose of driving game emulation (Sega Rally Championship, Daytona USA, SCUD Race, SF Rush series to name a few). Have to wait till summertime though to do any major work on it. It was -20 F in MN this morning. Hard to work in that. Even in a heated garage it's just hard to be outside and doing much in this weather lol.
No problem! Its something that doesn't get shown often so I was happy to help. Congrats on the pick up! That sounds like a great price. I'd have trouble saying no at that price. Thats an insanely low temperature to this Texan. I thought my garage was too cold...it was only in the 20's outside hah!
@@KillerArcadeGames thanks much and yeah, I just couldn't really pass it up. Everything worked when I picked it up. Just the monitor was glitching here and there and a high pitched whine was coming from the speakers. Having been a auto mechanic in the past I was familiar with that kind of whine as a ground issue. Unplugged the speakers and followed the noise to the power supply. Found it full of rust and the fan locked solid. Ordered a new one and hoping it solves all the issues! Still will need the cleanup on everything else but it would be awesome if mechanically it could be fixed for about $60!
If you use your gut to push in the joystick you then can use one hand to depress the microswitch collar and your other had to easily clip the pin to the bottom of the stick. Seriously, it works
You didn’t have to go through all the work to label the wiring. In the test menu, you can go to switch input I believe and when you push the switch, it shows you on screen which one is being pressed and you can then move the wiring to that particular button location.
I dont have any KI cab but I really enjoyed this video! Im hoping to eventually pick up a A1Up KI. May I ask what equipment you use to record your videos(camera, mic, etc.) All your videos are always crisp and clear both audibly and visibly. Thanks
Camera-wise...my iPhone 13 Pro Max, nothing fancy lol. Most modern cell phone cameras are good enough as long as you have enough storage inside. My old phone would run out quickly and frustrate me hahah. My microphones are a wireless set, which is a very nice perk after using wired mics that sucked. Here's a link: amzn.to/3olJBb1 Its a dual mic set up, so when I stream my wife can have her own mic and I have my own but there's only one receiver .
Its the epileptic seizure warning that's on almost arcades. Its typically black with white text but its faded. I'm probably going to cover it or remove it
I considered using them but I've had such a great experience with all the Happ sticks I didn't want to mess with success. I do plan to try them on other projects in the future.
Thanks for the tip for painting the screws. I remembered seeing that in your videos haha. I did adjust the monitor. Now that blacks seem to be perfect. I was marveling at it while watching the credits yesterday.
I always wonder, how does it feel to play games on original arcade controls in comparison to keyboard on PC or to gamepad on consoles. Cause i never played on arcade controls. But people who tried to play on original arcade cabinet told me that, playing even fighting games on arcade controls is difficult because of the joystic. Like, you push it to the left or to the right and it could push itself down or up when you do that, does making you do stuff in games that you didn't want to do. But yeah, you know what they say: if you never try by youself then you will never know. So i would love to try to play some games on original arcade controls, like Mortal Kombat for example to feel it by myself and find out, how comfortable it is.
It feels infinitely better. I hate to sound like I'm rubbing it in but the real arcade controls, matched with the weight of the real cabinet feels great. You're not going to shake the cabinet around so it feels planted making performing moves feel amazing. I personally find playing on gamepads to be impossible. Which is why I almost never play the Xbox One Killer Instinct. It may depend on what you first played on. I played the arcade versions primarily and then got the console versions to please me until I got back to the arcades.
@@KillerArcadeGames Well, i started with NES and Sega Mega Drive 2 later, so i played on gamepad. Now i'm playing on keyboard on my PC. But yeah, it would be great to try out real arcades, which is impossible in my country because, there are no arcade store in any places that i know.
Arcade controls are definitely better! Consequently I learned how to do combos and moves at home - on console because the only time I could play in the arcade is if my Mom took my sisters shopping at the mall. A little adjustment was needed from D-pad to Arcade stick...arcade sticks are definitely smoother movement.
