      I've wanted a Model S Plaid since they were first released. I figured it would take 8-10 years before I could afford a used one.
      I bought a 48k mile 2021 Model S Plaid for a little over 50k last week. Normally, I wouldn't spend so much on a car, but it's no ordinary car. Working tons of overtime this year helped a lot.
      It truly is the ultimate daily driver. It is a very nice car to be sitting in, whether you are stuck in traffic or running 9s at the 1/4 mile drag strip. I hope to put at least another 200k miles on my Model S, even if a battery replacement is needed at some point. Battery longevity has gotten better over the years and battery replacement costs are still dropping.

    Well presented and a knowledgeable review. Black Tesla's comments are more valuable since he is able to compare the Plaid to his previous Tesla, showing where improvements have been made. Great voice.

    The exterior design is pretty timeless. If I were to change anything on the exterior it would be the rear tail lamps. I would like to see them update that part of it to take cues from what Mercedes and Audi are doing with their rear tail lamps. Interior: I would like to see the 17 inch screen not cut into the front screen, otherwise from the for seat passengers, its perfect. The back video screen should be into the seats so you can watch content looking straight ahead. It truly in an amazing car, it beats any other car on the road AND you can go grocery shopping or on vacation with ease. I feel the Mercedes is more of a luxury car, the Tesla occupies the space that I would define as a Sports Utility Sedan. I have a LR on order and I hope I have a month left to get it. It will be my first Tesla. I am excited to finally get my car after ordering back in March.
    Question: if you have your phone in its holder in the front, if you do a plaid launch, does the phone stay in place for does it fly to the back seat?

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  3 года назад +5

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  3 года назад

      Amazing car indeed. The visibility of the yoke is not seeing over it but seeing around it for the screen, specially the menu and driver temp. Tesla knows it obstructs the screen which is why turn-by-turn navigation is minimized by default so as to not be obstructed by the yoke. Model 3/Y legacy S/X all have navigation that's maximized by default.

    "You Cant Be Low Key Even When Trying to Be." Unfortunately Tesla especially the Model S is still a attention getter even when you aren't trying to flaunt and flash. I work for a school district in Georgia and I only had my 2015 Titanium MS 85D since Feb-28-2021 and the Staff including the students down to Elementary grades notice. The Model S is just a beautiful design that its hard to have one and hide or be low key. I purchased mine because of the benefits over ICE vehicle ownership. I've followed Tesla since the first Model S always dreamed of owning one. That Plaid you have is Super Sexy and I didn't think I would want another black car again after the 3 different black cars I have had... yours sure makes me want that color. I sure love yours.

    Love your content. I just recently became a Tesla owner myself of a '23 long range S and was wondering if you've had any issues with rear inner tire wear. Im currently on 21' inch wheels with 2k miles and would at least like to get about 20k out of them. Do you have any advice in regards to tire and wheel care? Thanks!

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  8 месяцев назад +1

      Congrats! Yes I just posted a message on X about our recent issue. It is still a defect in the alignment and camber of the Model S and the Michelin PS4S T2's that were designed for it. You have approximately 15k miles depending on how you drive before the tire leaks because of the wear. The only indicator of wear is the sighting of the cords and at that point its too late. So just plan to replace the rears every 14k to avoid issues.

    Great video, i am considering Model s vs. Model 3 Ludicrous( When it releases)..with all that is refreshed on the Model 3 highland, do you still feel the Model s is a better car or am i better off getting the new Model 3 ludicrous ? Thanks for your feedback.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  6 месяцев назад +1

      Model S has always been a better car, however, it lagged behind with tech when the Model 3 was released. With the new Model S it reclaims its flagship status over the Model 3 with a a better ride, faster motors, longer range, and better utility (hatchback vs trunk). Model 3 wins if the S is too large for you, and is more nimble feeling due to the size. If cost and size isn't a factor you should get the S. If cost is a factor or size is a factor get the new 3, you can't go wrong either way.

    Congrats on your new car 👏🏾and Thx for sharing this. I’m a subscriber & If anyone knows the Model S, it’s you. Would you say the Model S is far off from the Plaid? My biggest set back is the yoke & where the horn is. I know there are after market steering wheels out, but the steering was a little lose, even in sport.is that true?

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and subscribing. The Plaid and the 2021 refresh Model S is significantly better than any previous Model S.
      The yoke can be learned and feel very comfortable but the horn is just poorly implemented no way to get used to it and hard to hit when not looking.
      The steering is NOT lose when in sport mode, I think most people have it in standard or comfort and it's lose there. The little bit of travel in sport seems like a safety precaution giving you room to accidentally move the wheel slightly without making the car zig and zag. There is another safety mechanism that limits full power if the yoke is turned and not straight.

I have been looking at a lot of reviews for the plaid because I want to own one just to see for myself what it is like owning one. From other reviews it seems like the plaid is very under braked. Seems like the long range S would be the way to go or wait a bit til they come out with updated versions of plaid.

      There is certainly a difference between 17 and 22 slight changes that make it noticeable. Since the S is a relatively low volume car I was hopeful they'd make 2 body styles to help incentivize getting plaid vs non-plaid.

    I personally have no idea why the screen had to be landscape when there is an instrument cluster? Definately should have had a smaller portrait screen. Just say it.... STALKS are better. Even the swipe... DOWN should be drive.

      Thanks for watching. Portrait is good but landscape is far superior for consuming media and allowing the passenger to interact with the screen. We have the X with the vertical screen and we'll and jumping back and forth between the 2 you appreciate the horizontal screen more.
      Yes stalks are better in general but at the time of this video we just got the car so it was from the perspective of having it and trying to live with it instead of making a decision of whether we will get it or not.

    Bacause my 2019 Tesla S performance is still quite a preformer, for now I can't see stepping up to the Plaid . In addition, I can't get past the yoke and the delete stalks on the Plaid. After all, it's not an aircraft.

      Plaid is def next level! Unmatched power whenever you need it. Also, I got used to the yoke and haptic buttons fairly quickly. I’ve had my plaid for only 2 weeks and I’m comfortable with the yoke and no stalks, def not a big deal. I actually prefer the yoke with all the power that’s on tap in an instant. Best Tesla thus far for sure and totally worth the cost in my opinion.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  3 года назад +2

      Yes a total game changer for sure. The 2019 PMS is still a great car but the refinements made to the Plaid or even 2021 Standard/long range S will give you cause to pause. Plaid definitely feels like an alien spacecraft on the highway so the yoke is AMAZING for highway driving. Local driving is where it's problematic. To Williams point you do get used to it but only if you just drive with the yoke. If you alternate between a wheel and the yoke it can be a pain and a deal breaker for most. If you love your Tesla then just don't drive or ride in the Plaid and you'll be fine 😁

      @@BlackTesla I was just reading that the standard steering wheel will be offered as an option on the Plaid, shipping delays are cause.
      We are simply getting into the stratosphere when it comes to speed and frankly, how often can we go 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds? I too have a need for speed, but is it worth the 3/10 of a second faster than it's predecessor? BTW, do you have the driving range on the Plaid? I do look forward to your detailed reviews.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  3 года назад +1

      If you have a sports car or exotic car then yes get the Plaid so it can be your all-in-one car. If you don't and having an ultra fast car isn't necessary the Long Range is perfect for you. The Long Range is the equivalent of the Model 3 Performance in terms of acceleration.

    • @davehaller6477
      @davehaller6477 3 года назад

      What do you value? If you value crushing any other car on the street the extra 40K may be worth it for you. But for 40K, you get an extra second off the 0-60 and stronger 60-100+ acceleration , you get the carbon fiber spoiler and interior accents. If you see it from this perspective it may not be worth it. But if you like the idea of taking any Porsche, Ferrari, Bugatti, McLaren at a fraction of the price, its a bargain.

    I drove the Taycan Turbo and liked the interior much more than then old Model S... but from what I can see in the videos (the Model S is not available in Europe yet), I like the new Model S more than the Taycan interior, even though it is probably not quite on a Taycan level in terms of quality.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  2 года назад +1

      The Taycan is a very nice car, drove it a few times and seriously considered it before the Plaid got moved forward. It has Porsches history of interiors so it solid and it definitely handles and brakes better than the Plaid. But the Plaid accelerates way better, has a more futuristic interior, and the Tesla software edge puts it over the top. We have lots of friends that are waiting on the Plaid in the UK instead of the Taycan and 1 mate who's sold his Taycan Turbo S and will be getting the Plaid.

    Face it, the vast majority of Tesla Plaid buyers get them for one thing....they are the fastest cars on the planet (a caveat here that I should mention is other European cars that come fairly close to the Plaids performance usually cost at least double the Plaids base price, and the Rimac Nevera, which is about a half second faster than a Plaid, last week was certified legal for all countries safety requirements, will only have 150 models made and costs $2,400,000 before options!) that you can buy from a manufacturer that you don't have to spend an additional $20-$30K to modify them to still be slower than a S Plaid. AND for you folks that agree and have interest in speed rather than how far we can go on a charge, or how much your Teslas will be worth 3 years from now, or the minor fit and finish issues that are always mentioned by Tesla haters, and are usually taken care by Tesla when mentioned when you buy this Model, this will be right up your alley! The TOP LINE Lucid Air offers 1,111HP, while the Plaid offers a supposedly 1,020HP, BUT there is a RUclips video that has a Plaid on a 4 hub dyno that develops 1,101HP STOCK from the factory. The Plaid also weighs approximately 400 pounds LESS than the Lucid Air, and averages between $20,000 to $30,000 Less than the advertised $179,900 than the Lucid costs DEPENDING ON OPTIONS CHOSEN for each car.
    Last month a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph.
    The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front.
    Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!!
    As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run.
    Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension.
    “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said.
    Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph.
    As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h).
    As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used!
    You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several RUclips channels
