Ignorance would be correct answer. Normally, Indian don't pay attention to any game. However, if some Indian starts to win it sparks interest in such game. So, Vishwanath Anand won world championship and he did many things simply by winning. i) Indian got to know chess existed as a sport. ii) He showed that people can earn living in chess. Plus, Govt. also started to provide income source to top players. iii) He showed that Indian can win that thing. By winning world championship, he created interest, trained some people, and Govt. attention got towards that direction and Govt. started to provide to income source to top players. So, infrastructure was created which didn't exist in first place. So, a lot of people started to play chess. It's the same reason cricket is more famous in India than football. The reason this type of situation exist is because India is poor country and a democratic nation . Nationalism is remarkable fuel to get people interested. So, Govt. doesn't invest much in sport where there is no scope. As people would question them but at the same it needs to show that it works towards sports, etc or welfare of people. Viswanath Anand showed that his sport have scope. So, Govt. invested in chess as a sport. Thus, that increase.
I can vouch that there are many great players in India who play for fun and not in tournaments…They would be IM levels atleast but they just don’t care
@@cbriceno82 Hungary has and had not only "normal" GM-s, but top, world famous chessplayers, GM-s, like Maróczy, Szabó, Portisch, Adorján, Sax, Ribli, Lékó, Polgár, Almási and Rapport, whom we call super GM-s (and world champion candidates) today.
@attilahalmai4590 You May say Hungarian GMs are better ranked than Icelandic ones, but this is not the point, the country with the highest GM per Capita in the world is Iceland, just do the math
@@cbriceno82 From that point of view, it's true. I wanted to explain that hungarian chess history is maybe the richest according to world famous chess players/ capita.
Not a fair comparison, the number of grand masters should have been weighed by the country's population (GMs per capita). Done this way Iceland wins by far and India falls all the way down to the bottom of the ranking.
@@РадийФёдоровичyup after 200 years of colonisation India suffered a lot but now it is recovering and you will see the true potential of India in every field Golden bird will fly high 👍
@@Kandel908 India and Ukraine have approximately the same amount of GM, despite the fact that Ukraine is at war and its population is 25 times smaller than India. At the same time, India is considered the country that invented the game of chess. Based on this, I can say that with the resources that India has, progress is insufficient.
@@РадийФёдорович yup but Ukraine is in war for 2 years and they already have enough grandmasters before the war. As i mentioned India's main problem is its past 200 years of colonisation and then corrupt Governments but now its recovering and developing...it takes time to recover from trauma and florish again so just wait and watch👍
*Anand in 2013 Lost to Magnus*
Anand: *Fine I'm gonna make a Army Take you down*
I think India has 85 Grandmaster
This is exactly what the vídeo shows.
India rules!
Idk how but after 2014 , India has a sharp increase in grandmasters
because of Anand

its because of ramesh , anand have 5 percent contribution 😂
One dislike coz you highlighted the wrong Indian map
Now that gukesh has won WCC we'll see a sharp rise in no of GMs in India
It’s funny to see that Norway is not even there
Norway doesn't need this. They have many Olympic medals.
I had no idea India had 85 GMs😮
More Grandmasters after 2014 with Modi ji become Prime Minister.
2014 - 36 GMs
2018 - 54 GMs
2024 - 85 GMs
Countries such as Germany and Ukraine are one of the best alongside with Russia, India is developing lately
India have 85 grandmasters in just 25 years...
Grande ideia de vídeo
Não sabia que argentina era tão promissora no passadoenxadrístico !!

Most of the Grandmasters in india are Tamils
Maybe because Anand is from Tamil Nadu.
and most of the best cricketers, top athletes are from haryana, punjab .
so what ?
Very surprising. Germany has so many and most people don't know more than a couple of German GMs. And cuba is surprising too. No Ajerbaijan?
Cuba was dominant in 1900
I guess I'm not surprised that so many of the greatest chess Grandmasters have always come from Russia.
Russia had well over 200+ GMs. Many of them switched federation after invasion of Ukraine to prolong their careers.
Argentina ❤🇦🇷
According to the population (less than 10 million) Hungary is the best!
Hungarian people are privileged to be born there unlike 3rd world country like India
No, Iceland is the best!

Their population is 1/7 of the Earth's population. Not so much.
