You forgot to mention that Elle was originally supposed to be Laura from Silent Hill 2, and she would've worn James's jacket during the boat ride to Silent Hill.
Those ideas came up really early in the production but were luckily rejected. There's a few crazy ideas they went through early on including a battle between Josh and Alessa. I do wish they went with her initial designs, though. She had short hair like Heather and a slightly different face
Really sad they didn't use the scene with Alex and Josh imitating a radio show, it was sweet. I wish there had been more interactions between the brothers in general. In the final product, they ended up feeling too distant.
If you want I could get you in contact with a few team members from this project. I've spoken to some of the artists. They really struggled with the graphical fidelity. The engine they used wasn't optimized for the PS3 in particular. They had to cut back on higher poly counts and the use of several new texture mapping features (specular, AO) because the Xbox and Ps3 versions had to be nearly identical despite the fact the Ps3 had much less RAM and wasn't compatible with the engine in 2007. I've seen the 3D models for the feral and certain human characters like the hunter. They looked incredibly detailed for a game in early 7th gen. The monsters were going to use early subsurface tricks so you could see the muscle and sinew beneath translucent skin. I love the premise of Homecoming. The concept of coming back to your hometown only to discover that your childhood town has been abandoned and gutted is something a lot of Americans in small towns have had to endure since the 90s. Pyramid Head's inclusion bothers me but Konami pressed them to do it. PH was supposed to be a stalker enemy for areas of the town Alex connected with his father. The original designs for Judge Holloway and Elle look much better. I know they resemble Maria and Heather a little too much but I don't mind that: if anything subtle nods to SH2 & SH3 like that are appreciated.
1:37 "Elle Holloway, the sister of judge Holloway" You mean daughter? Unless it was an early idea. 1:56 "Alex Shepard" "Shepard" is an alternate spelling of "Shepherd", the game spells it like "Shepherd". 2:17 That unknown voice actor would be a great voice for Henry Townshend. I heard some of that early audio in youtube videos but some were new! They definitely had an idea for how Alex was going to sound like with those other voices.
Looking at these unused monsters look so very unique. It could've been an original Silent Hill game, with unused monsters like this. Sadly they went in using Pyramid Head and the Bubble head nurses, cause Konami wanted fan service.
I give them a little credit for PH. They renamed him Bogeyman, gave him a different purpose and at least tried to change the appearance, to at least seperate James's entity from Alex's, or at least I feel there's enough differences that can show thats what they intended to do at least
@nullbyt no lol it's literally never been pronounced "fock" hawk lol. It was a common haircut in the mid to late 2000's and was only ever pronounced like the word foe
Silent Hill Homecoming was also ment to be Silent Hill V. Team Silent was developing it for the PS3, but after they dissolved, the development was picked up by Double Helix Games and they basically picked up the pieces and changed stuff around using the assets they had. It went from Silent Hill V Homecoming to just Homecoming. They probably dropped the number system because Team Silent games were the only ones to be numbered, simular to Metal Gear.
Man, thia game really could have been peak. I always loved the soundtrack and the Dark Fog that they chose for the game, and the monster designs. Its sad the devs get a lot of the hate, because to me, they did try to make a good game, and a lot of people say that PH was added because of the movie, but he looks Drastically different in the body and clothing he wears, and the helmet looks a bit different. To me, it felt like they named him "Bogeyman" and made him act differently compared to James's "Red Pyramid Thing". One More Soul to call kinda gives me a good outline as to what the game was supposed to be and it really would have been good, if the Double Helix wasn't meddles by Konami
@lProjectZerol I think that the imtent was to make a character that's parallel to James's Story, but instead of him repressing a crime he intentionally committed, Alex was feeling guilt for an accident, but the true criminals were the town and his parents, that murdered the children. That was why instead of "Bogeyman" chasing Alex, like Red Pyramid did for James, "Bogeyman" chased people like his Father, and ignored Alex, but still represented a part of his subconscious guilt
Man hearing Nolan North voicing Alex Shepherd just makes me think of Nathan Drake a little too much, I can see why they dropped him off the project, to avoid comparisons to Uncharted. I am curious about the unknown VA that voiced Alex in that scene there since we don't know who it is, hell just more information on the development of this disappointment in the series would help immensely since a lot of the early games are covered already save for a few mysteries.
Wow, I love your series, but I'm surprised there was no mention of Pyramidhead. I remember finding unused voice lines in the game files of Alex screaming something like "Take this, metal head!" Was obvious to me that there was a Pyramidhead fight planned for the game
I wouldn't go as far as to call it misunderstood or underappreciated like other people do, I think it's an objectively bad game (both on its own merit and especially as an entry in the SH series). but i remember being like 12 or 13 when it released on the Xbox 360 and having a good/enjoyable time playing it. If I was maybe 5 years older when it released I probably would have been way more critical of it from the start
A lot of the unused monster concepts would have actually fleshed the game out more if used instead of the simplistic non boss enemies (besides a couple) that we got.
Weather forecast for silent hill very foggy for the now till god knows when and snowing ash for the next several months now over to pyramid head for the sports

not you forgetting the most important cut content: Elle was an adult Laura from SH2 at the early stages of Homecoming and she would wear James' jacket

Konami basically leaned on them to use Pyramid Head. I don't really blame the team
A “fock hawk” lmao its faux (fōe) hawk.
It's supposed to be a play on words. Faux meaning fake and mohawk, because it's a fake mohawk faux hawk.

Homecoming was on sum freaky shit with their creature designs
unpopular opinion: I think Homecoming is a great SH game beside its flaws
Alex’s old VA was really good!

same. I think the story is quite similar to SH2 (a main character who doesn't recognize his crimes and travels Silent Hill to revive them)
@lProjectZerol I think that the imtent was to make a character that's parallel to James's Story, but instead of him repressing a crime he intentionally committed, Alex was feeling guilt for an accident, but the true criminals were the town and his parents, that murdered the children. Insulting Homecoming is popular, but their creature designs and boss monsters were inspired.
