@@Street_Cop_Actual_ Well I mean, french heavy cavalry was one of the most terrifying thing you could encounter on a battlefield during the early medieval period (cavalry literally comes from the french word "cavalerie" and chivalry, "chevalerie" because it comes from "cheval", a horse.) so actually, the depiction in the game is completely relevant with the annoying early knight. And for the surrender part, i guess a country who won what we call "the hundred years' wars" is solely enough to show that surrendering is not really a french habit
Drongo you sir are single handedly growing the community of this game, I played age of mythology as a kid and had no idea this game even existed still. Bought it this morning after watching a couple videos.
Drongo, i have a bug that i have reported and posted threads about, but it would be nice if you knew about it, to boost the signal, the age 4 supercastle landmark for HRE cannot use the emergency repair ability, it's greyed it and insists that its not in influence, i connected it to my main TC, and even built a fresh TC right next to it, it nearly costed me a game because i counted on having the ability on it.
Strange how they removed the intense archer micro on land and then added it on water. I feel like the swivel ship technique wasn't intended, and even the "micro nerd" himself said it wasn't very fun to play.
Yeah, I personally think it should be patched out. It effectively doubles a players attack. That's not a small boost, it makes it simply impossible to compete without it. Unlike the AoE2 archer micro, it also doesn't fade out later on (as happened with ballistics research).
You guys know using both broadsides is actually a real tactic used in real life, right? :D Obviously real sailing ships can't turn on a dime like this, but that's a separate issue. I doubt many people want realistic ship movement in the game lol.
I gotta give you huge thanks Drongo for casting this game. I landed as the English against a French player using every trick in the book on Warring Islands. Hulk rush, turning about for resets, knight drops etc... Thanks to this video, I knew a build order that could get me to Castle fast to contest his hulks, ended even winning that game !
Problem was and also through most of the game the guy who played the french went into almost every fight to conservative also was way to slow in building his costal defense while viper did that right away. That gave Viper the big advantage. Red guy should have build a tower near his docks asap early like viper did. That would have slowed down viper quit a bit.
I know many Players dont enjoy the Water Maps but i really enjoy watching Them. The ships Sound and Look so good and the sacred Sites Shine in my opinion on Water Maps the most.
I wish the french were weak af on water, they already strong on land. To me feels like a stacked civ literally play against them everygame (i play 2v2/3v3/4v4 with friends only) and honestly it takes the fun out of the game.
Blue guy just made a whole lot of wrong choices through that whole fight while viper looked like he been through a couple of games already making less mistakes.
So France on age 2 they have attack ship (hulk) which on other civs will get it on age 3. My question, do France also still have access to arrow / archer ship (galley) like other civs when aged up to age 2? If not what the replacement?
I would've tried to be greedier than Viper and place the King's Palace instead of the White Tower in the same spot, with 8+ cheap units in it to put out at least as much damage against incoming ships, thereby probably falling too far behind though and not getting Age III quickly enough to contest the waters. :D
They weren't, the British navy only became the strongest in the late 18th and early 19th century. In the 15th and 16th centuries the Portuguese and the Spanish were the ones who ruled the seas
Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to split the rock-paper-scissors ships into different ages and then give a civ earlier access to the next up in the winning circle. They should go back to giving all civs access to all ship classes starting Feudal.
On the other hand, if you manage to get to imperial age, do the French have a counter to demos? If I'm seeing that right, they have no archer ships. If they're the only civ that has a glaring gap in their tech tree, that could make them very vulnerable.
@@Sids1192 Their Galleass can fire while moving and fires forward and I think is classed as an arrow ship, though it's slow moving, slow firing, very high damage, high cost and hp, really an attack ship from most stats, with low armour though (not ideal against archer ships), but the range us a war ship. So some kind of hybrid, I'd say. But really, once you have a significant number of attack ships, I'm sure they can stop any demo ship from reaching themselves or any war ships behind that.
I was confused a bit at first when you called the demo ships fire ships, because in AoE2 fire ships are a completely different type. p.S: also the middle island is the only place for stone for Viper if I didnt miss any. So he had to buy stone for his first keep which is big.
Wait, I always use Abbey of Kings against AI. I guess I should be switching if it's not that good. Yes I only play AI cause I don't like PvP in general.
Abby of kings is pretty bad namely because of the 'out of combat' requirement which is a 5+ second wait after leaving combat, then you have to wait to heal. Frankly its a pretty garbage age building. Other religious buildings have better advantages, delhi has -50% monk cost, and HRE has the massive influence buff all around them. Abby of kings doesn't actually heal all that much either. Makes me wonder who tf play tested that build and thought yeah, this is fine.. It at least needs to heal whilst in combat, nothing less will even begin to make it viable.
Yeah it's kinda bad right now. The council hall is a lot better, it basically saves you 2 archery ranges. The wood you would spend on those ranges is better spent on making longbows and harassing your enemy
@@Marth667 I will be trying the other option and see how I like it, so far I haven't really had any bad experience with the Abbey. But I am only playing against AI Intermediate. Appreciate the input mate.
@@dannyoh5219 Yeah I can see how that can be useful, although I mainly focus on knights, it's just so amazing seeing them all ride and smash anything they see. Recently I discovered that the English are good at defense so the Council Hall might be better.
@@penokoh9494 if you like to use knights you should try playing French. They aren't that complicated either and they get knights in age 2 with their first landmark
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the ship turning thing should be patched out. It's a micro exploit that effectively doubles your units attack. That's a huge bonus that makes it impossible for players to compete without it. Given how Relic has removed the ability to dodge archer fire, I don't think this is the sort of thing that fits with the game (plus, the dodging was largely tempered by the fact that you would eventually research ballistics and make it pretty ineffective. No such fade out here. It's also unrealistic and looks silly. Sure it's real that ships have ballistas on both sides that fire independently, but it's unrealistic to be able to take advantage of that as ships don't really turn that fast.
I'm gonna go with: A Frenchman designed the French civ in AOE4. I don't think Viper cares about simple strats being "leaked". The game is still just a baby and all the players are baby AOE4 players. Just some babies are bigger than others. Viper a real good "newb" AOE4 player. xD
Aussie_Drongo. this is the most fun I have ever had watching a age of empires 4 map completly changed my mind of water I even watched it on normal speed the whole thing!
English for blue and French for red. What a sin!
Lol I was thinking the same thing.
Same with the Norman campaign...
The player always plays in blue, all allies are yellow, all enemies are red. It’s a pity, as I liked matching colours to factions, especially in AoE3!
The real sin is making the French a strong civilization lol surprised they don’t come with a surrender button over their town hall

Viper thankful he got value out of the misclick building a demo ship
yeah viper posted this a day or 2 before drongo and he said the demo was a missclick, then he got that juicy hit

Its why I quit playing them. They were my favorite but I can never repair anything.
Strange how they removed the intense archer micro on land and then added it on water. I feel like the swivel ship technique wasn't intended, and even the "micro nerd" himself said it wasn't very fun to play.
AoE had intense micro on water with projectiles even without this swivel thing I wish they'd put AoE2 style micro in here.
yea, ship micro looks stupid - ships spinning like hell)

I think the stealth water sections are called "fog banks".

Im maining french and...agree.
You cannot be top 3 in everything.
Heavy ship needs to be moved to castle age.
The Abbasid are pretty strong on land against the French with the camel archer buffs.
Well there should be balancing on the way

I’m thinking of getting this game now 🤣🤷🏼♂️ but is there also the Netherlands in this game ?
