I frequently watch your videos along with other color analysis content, and I have a suggestion. It would be very helpful if you could review plain T-shirts from sites like Jiffy. This would give clearer color references for those of us who wear casual clothing rather than formal or designer items. It would also aid in distinguishing which colors belong to which sub-season. Personally, I believe I am a Deep Autumn.
Videos using clothing from current retail stores would be great (for both of us) but those images are copyright-owned by the retailer. This is why I choose URStyle despite the less-available selection. Pinterest is a way to use images from retail and you'll find my 12 Season boards if you search there (by Christine Scaman, or 12 Blueprints). I've had little time to add pins lately but have noted Jiffy and will try to add some pins very soon! Thank you for the suggestion.
I'm not 100% sure of my exact season or colors but have noticed a huge difference when my hair is resting on a black shirt in natural light vs a warm dusty rose sort of color. It goes from looking blah to warm and rich. I also finally understood what wearing your colors not a color wearing you means. My face comes alive. That greeny bronze thing explains a lot. Love how you approach this!
Glad you're finding some good information here. Good on you to notice how hair colour changes with clothing, that's a subtle thing that can hard to pick up even when it's pointed out. You'll see some examples of colour wearing the person on the channel, and you can try it out with folks around you. Look at them and think about what they're wearing, you already do it subconsciously, this is just bringing it up into a conscious place where you can work with it.

I'm so glad that you have this information with so many years ahead to apply it to your best advantage. 30 is the perfect age, as we think more independently of friends, family, and media than we did in the past. You have many life transitions to come and knowing your colours will guide you through each one.
I have a client who I am just about convinced is either a True Autumn or Soft Autumn who lives in neutral colors. I tint her hair a peanut butter blonde that really flatters her complexion. Even though the Autumn palettes are not my preference, it is undeniable this woman is stunning in her Talbot’s clothing and Longchamps camel handbag.
It's true, Autumns have a unique way of looking beautiful and put together. Everyone does wearing their colours, though Autumns add an element of chic that's all their own, maybe why business 'looks' are so often shown in these colours. The colours are familiar, making it easy to underestimate how gorgeous they are.

My mother and sister are dark winters and I'm a dark autumn. If you look at my sister and i we look the same, until we're side by side. We're both very pale and close to neutral toned, but she leans cool and i lean warm. We both have very dark brown eyes, but mine have a cognac glow where hers have almost a red, but a cool grey ring around them, where mine is black.
We both have darkest brown hair, but hers is ash toned and looks almost metallic black in the sun, mine is mahogany toned and looks auburn in the sun.
It took me a long time to realize i was dark autumn because i look good in dark winter colors... but i look better in the warmer versions of those colors. Army green looks fantastic on me lol.
The differences between neighbour Seasons can be subtle, and sometimes even more so between members of a family, and then more again when apparent skin tones are very close. So interesting about the highlight colour in sunlight. Thank you for your descriptions, they're very perceptive!

You have kindness in your eyes. Thank you for the video. I have dyed my hair since my teenage years, but now I'm not sure about the natural color. Im true autumn, and my hair look kind cool medium brown, like my eyebrows in my pale super yellow skin, which is not flattering for me. I wish I could leave my hair natural, but I always need to warm it up.
Good that the video gave you some ideas. If warmer hair feels better, why not wear it that way? Sometimes Autumns add red tones to the hair and describe the change as 'warming' but if the new colour comes from their same Season, they haven't really warmed the colour so much as changed it from a more neutral tone to a more coloured one from the same palette and the result can be terrific.

I have a silly idea for a video: I would love to see a color analysts type the Disney princesses and say if they are wearing their correct colors or not. Welcome to the channel, it's good to have you with us :) I love the Disney princesses, I recall images on Pinterest of how they'd look without makeup that are fascinating, inspiring even. I have such respect for the designers and colourists at Disney, the level of detail with which they see the world. The princesses do seem to align with certain Seasons, although almost stereotypically at times. The thing about colour analyzing them is that our Season isn't about how we look, it's about how we react to colour. Like photographs or cartoons of real people, the colours in the images are locked. The things that colour analysts look for when people wear certain colours don't happen so the Season decision tends to be based on opinion or personal preference. It's a great suggestion though, I've always thought cartoon designers should consult with colour analysts when they create their characters, would make their characters more real life and relatable than ever, especially now that computers can simulate human appearance in such detail.

Winter is much harder to narrow down, I find. Maybe because the variation in natural appearance can be so wide, or as colours approach primary colours, the choices are more absolute rather than one colour representing many similar colours,
I was stunned to find out in the late 80’s that I was an Autumn. I wore all the wrong colors of clothing and makeup and always looked pale. My Mom would ask if I had put blush on. I had, but it was a pinkish rose. Wearing my best colors was such a game changer. After watching a few different videos recently, I feel pretty certain I am a True Autumn. Pale skin, hazel green eyes with gold flecks, freckles and med brown auburn hair. Now I understand why I hate shiny gold hoops! All my favorite earrings are either brushed gold or bronzy pinkish copper tones! I feel like a clown in the bright. I also loved the idea of matching your purse and shoes with your hair. It is very difficult to find clothing in our beautiful palette. Everything comes in white, black, navy and grey. Where are the aubergines?
I agree that wearing the right colours is a game-changer for True Autumn. We become selective and educated consumers once we know our colours, making specific colours harder to find. Part of shopping success is time of year, with Aug to Nov having high Autumn inventory. It may also depend on where we live, although online shopping has widened the possibilities significantly.

What threw many past analyses was my pure ash brown hair. ☺️ I have extremely warm eyes and skin, but my hair, practically speaking, is ash brown. (I’ve had it professionally dyed to match my natural color, it’s ash brown.) That said, in my DA colors, my hair takes on a metallic green-bronze tone. The ashy color almost reminds me of the ash on coals. My natural color just doesn’t match the averages given in seasonal guides.
Glad it was helpful! Those averages are double-edged. They help us make sense of the bigger concept of Seasons, but they over-simplify as well, they distill out too many of the details that describe the real world, in the same way that satellite images are not wind and snow. And totally yes to your brilliant observation about your own hair, cool colours will gray a warm-coloured person's face. What happens to part of the colours happens to all the colours (not true about shapes though), so the hair colours gray as well. And of course, another way that hair colour may be more misleading than helpful as an indicator of Season.
@@ChristineScaman oh wow! I never even thought about my hair color greying my other features. No one has ever explained it like that before, and it makes so much sense! No wonder my skin seems neutral next to my hair--even though it's not. On the flip side, I have tried dyeing my hair warmer just as an experiment, mostly to see what my boundaries are within the season. Warm hair throws everything off kilter. It's not horrific, but it's not the same magic as the ash brown paired with all the other warmth.
Actually, I meant it the other way round, that wearing too cool clothing colours will cause a warm-coloured person's face to drain of colour and look gray, and it has the same effect on hair pigmentation. Just wearing our own colours can make us look years younger by returning pigment to the hair. I find 'ash brown hair' a lot like 'hazel eyes', there are so many variations, but it's totally true that DA can have hair that looks like it could be SSu. Many dress as SSu or guess themselves to be a Soft, but once they wear their DA colours, all this pigment returns to the features and hair. Suddenly you see how much colour didn't have a chance to be visible in Soft Season colours and the hair doesn't look so ash after all. You're very observant, bronze, green, and red are very much to be found in natural DA hair.
What you're saying is true too, that we see hair and skin next to one another, same as we skin and lipstick together, they can change our perception of the other. One of the biggest advances in colour analysis was the idea of Neutral or in-between Seasons, rather than just the 4 main ones. Many Neutral Season person are coloured with their warm-cool range visible on the surface, like cool hair-warm eyes or warm eyes-cool skin, all with the range of the particular Season. Likely the features are the same warmth level but they appear to fluctuate just because of the close proximity, exactly what you said about your skin and hair. The closer colours are together, the more they influence one another. Why hair colour and lipstick are so important!
@@ChristineScaman oh I misunderstood!! That makes far more sense what you say about cool washing someone out. I felt very washed out in winter seasons but kept plugging along. Funny enough, people guessed Soft Summer until the draping revealed DA. I actually tried out SSU and have never, ever felt so depressed and lifeless. DA felt like coming home after spending two weeks with the neighbors. I have found our conversation validating and incredibly informative. So thank you for your time. It makes me feel extra good about my DA colors. 🧡

I have had difficulty deciding between winter and autumn ( when there were only four choices). My dark brown hair allows me to were a lot of winter, but the pinks are way too cool My teal with a starburst eyes allow me to wear a lot of autumn, but the oranges are way too harsh. Seeing the blend of the extended choice season dark autumn allows me to wear some pink (which is nice) but doesn't require me to wear orange----- t allows me to choose the colors that I like best from both seasons. Thank you for helping me to find the right season for me !

Thanks so much 😊 How the colours we wear communicate to ourselves and others may be what interests me most, along with the extensions of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and ultimately, intention and control of our own visual story. To answer your question though, I have no specific plans to expand this area in writing or video. We talk about it a lot with private clients and students because people do perceive the deeper level, as you have :)
Perhaps down the track you'll step more into sharing that info with us folks on youtube, as you do with one on one clients. Or in a book? Or both? Your particular way of articulating sets you apart from so many colour analysists' you-tubers and there is so much potential here for skyrocketing your message and your reach. I see the link between the true self and true colours as your ticket to getting the recognition you really deserve. I hope you know your confidence in this field exudes a type of magnetic aura that many many more people than that currently follow you will be drawn into. Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement and agree that many people recognize the connection immediately, and the possibilities within these deeper levels of communication. Once they allow the associations, appearance and all its baggage, from inside and outside our selves, becomes something to explore. It awakens our curiosity, rather than being an insistent voice that needs constant negotiation. The never-ending false standards that drag down our self-acceptance and keep us questioning, they stop dead in their tracks, there's nowhere for them go the minute we turn the tables and reclaim what's ours. A calm, strong place to be and a big conversation, as you say. Colour and The Self is pretty good for suggesting a way of talking about appearance that's new to folks, though I'm not confident about RUclips (or I'd need a staff to manage the comments). It's always in my mind though and I figure if the Universe wants it to happen, it will open a door. Thank you once again for your comments :)

As to silver hair: Right now outdoors there is a grad sky, and the leaves are all shades of autumn. So silver does exist with autumn colors in nature. !!
I often think of lead and a tarnished silver teapot for DA :)

Glad it helps :) DA 'gray' can be quite brown, value levels of greige with high saturation, but tarnish gives the same muting and dark colour also makes it work better with DA. It can also feel warmer or 'browner' than say, Batman black, a dark rubber colour that be more for DW. Asphalt with a bit of chocolate mixed in can be good too.
Hello Iam new to the 12 season color analysis.
Iam curious about the “problem” with naturally dark brown hair and eyes and lighter eyebrows.
All my life I struggled with the my eyebrows because I always felt there was missing color.
When I colored my eyebrows it appeared to dark and strong for my complexion and when I colored my hair light brown or blonde than I looked washed out.
So my question is could you make a video about this phenomenon?
If the only thing that gives your face definition is your eye and hair color should you let your eyebrows match your hair color or not?
I’ve noticed Rihanna has also spare and lighter brows as her hair color but her eyes are also lighter.
My eyes are dark brown instead.
Naturally light brows are actually fairly common, and as you mention, I see them as often in the young as in mature women (or men). Women whose brows lighten or silver before their hair, as mine have, would find similarities here too. To keep the brows belonging in the face, I'd aim for a colour between the natural brow and hair colours using either a brow product or an eyeshadow. Besides eye and hair colour, natural bone structure and clothing play a big role in facial definition, as does the use of colour in cheeks and lips.
Thank you for your reply. I have darken my hair to almost it’s natural hair color and immediately felt a relief. Than I made my brows to dark and now I look really harsh. I have a wider bone structure but also a lot of flesh. I could instantly relate as you’ve said in another video that blonde can make you look wider. That’s definitely my case. My facial bones look wider as their are but my nose looks not too big oder to small because it blends with my hair and skin color.
When I wear dark hair my nose becomes undefined and too big for my face. That’s where the brows plays a big role. If my brows are bigger and have the right shade and form than my nose looks much more in harmony with my face.
Would you recommend that the brows should mach the hue of the hair? If so than that’s something I could try to incorporate as well.

Awesome Season! Those colours look so amazing in fabrics, in combinations, in cosmetics, I'm surprised over and over again by the rich and luxurious looks they're capable of creating. Great for you that you know your colours, I expect you look gorgeous in them :)
I got color analyzed as a dark autumn recently (my natural hair color is about a level 2 or 3 brown with warm natural highlights), and am trying to decide if I can dye my hair a dark auburn or if I should do a more brown to look my best. I’ve been dying my hair different shades of red for a decade so going back to brown feels weird to me 😅
I'd think about baby steps and see what happens. Dark Autumn hair colour is so available. But really, hair is just another colour we wear, and if a colour would look beautiful as a lipstick, it would probably work as hair. Red can be much more challenging to get right than brown, and the thing to get used to might be that you suddenly show up more than the hair colour, which I see as a good thing :)

Christine, when autumns loose contour with too light highlights, then what happens with going grey and white? I feel for me the grey works very well, it looks like a natural highlight now an dI love it, but why isnt that a problem, compared to hghlights? thank you in advance, great series!!! (oh and Im soft autumn and found out about that thing color analysis bc I noticed that yellow blond highlights look somehow wrong on me... thats very long ago)
i'm not Christine of course, but i would assume after years of reading her lovely posts that the grey thing in comparison to the highlight is simply that the grey you see coming out of your own head is made up of the colours in your palette (which are the colours already present within you, your colouring) and the highlight especially when it is too light is made up of artificial dye that does not necessarily have the same depth and temperature. Let's say you go for a blonde highlight, that could be made up of too light yellow, too cool yellow, so in comparison to your soft autumn pigment dimension could read a bit too neon or white/frosted.... that is what i see happening with my hair and bleach. instead the colour that comes out of your hair naturally (i have some blonde in my hair and was a blonde baby) is respecting of the color dimension of your pigment: the same yellow, or grey, doesn't matter, has soft autumn depth and soft autumn temperature. I hope both my understanding and explanation were clear enough and helpful :)
This is a great question, Christine. Here's what I believe is always true: Our natural silver is as perfect for us as any other natural colour. Silver hair with highlights tends not to look great on anyone, but dyeing the hair a solid colour means upkeep and chemicals, along with skin that can look drained or older next to the dye. The woman actually looks younger with her own silver hair in terms of skin texture, eye colour, and an overall sense of calm and health. This said, I agree with you that silver hair brings the colour closer to skin colour in Caucasians, creating a less defined and framed facial shape. This goes along with the general loss of feature detail and colour vibrancy that comes with time. I don't believe that people change Seasons, but managing our appearance does change over time. The answer that is most elegant to my eyes is to wear the silver hair, which is a very beautiful warm silvery smoky halo for many Softs, and add definition with cosmetics and energy in clothing. Once the hair is neutral in colour, it makes sense to me that adding colour elsewhere keeps the entire impression interesting and defined for all Seasons, plus I see this in people around me. Autumns also have the easiest cosmetics in the world to find and wear, even just a touch of brow pencil and bronzer/contour, and a sheer lip.
Thank you, Devi, great answer. For exactly the reasons you describe, blonde is challenging for Autumns to wear successfully, even Softs. We see blonde Autumn actors all the time, but that's a look we're used to and almost expect, and their appearances are altered in many other ways as well. If we knew them in their regular lives, and were given a choice between blonde and a more harmonious colour, we would probably choose their own colours. You mention highlights for Soft Autumn...I'm always curious about how others see the world...do you find highlights that look great in silver hair, in any Season? Given a choice, would your eye prefer the silver on its own?

My experience exactly this too. If you wear good colors and the right lipcolor/brows, the grey, silver or white looks often fresher than colored hair or as you say younger. I do wear a strong red lip well with that (what strong means for soft autumn, a darker neutral a bit browned shade, I wear mac retro sometimes, that dark).
Once the lipcolor is there and the brows get a bit darkened with umber or warm grey, I have a face and the haircolor is just beautiful.
@@ChristineScaman thanks, it was great to hear validation of my understanding from you! as far as chemical dye i don't see it improving someone's appearance, even when done well, possibly because i feel like i'm very sensitive to color (especially after reading about color analysis for so long). the thing i learned to really appreciate is the beauty that grows out of you naturally, which is very far from the idea i had when i was younger. I do tend to like people better when they are rocking their own face, their own hair texture etc.
i'm wondering if considering the times you will be having more training courses for analysts soon. i'm always thinking that one day i'd like to take the plunge and get trained by you, given the option (i currently live in Italy fyi :D)
@@devi7389 I expect that the training courses will resume either later this year or in 2022. There have been several enquiries in the past year from the EU, as well as S. Am., and the present EU analysts in our community came to Canada or the US for training. Once travel is possible once again, it may not be so difficult :)
Hey Christine, I live in a part of the world where color analysis isn’t really practiced at all unfortunately which means I can’t go for an in office color analysis :(. I’ve been trying to pick bits and pieces of information from certain websites specially yours and I’m currently reading ur book return to the natural colors. I had a question; I have a high contrast level (bronzed black hair that looks black %80 of the time + medium warm skin the whites of my eyes aren’t very bright and I have bronze-green eyes) with these being said are there any seasons that I can definitively rule out? Also some more info that might be helpful: I’ve deduced I’m warm by some factors
1. I’ve compared a warm green a blue a red and purple with a cool green blue red and purple of the same darkness and similar chroma. Warm counterparts looked better 7 times out of 10 (clearer skin, saturated hair color, my skin also became brighter and extremely pleasantly contrasting when I wore this very deep warm red incredibly close to being a neutral red, an effect I’ve always been jealous of black wearing Snow White winters so that was cool.
2. White looks horrible on me. I feel like it gives me wrinkles and I’m freaking 21.
3. I’m overwhelmed by very intense colors like magenta or bright orange but dusty colors wash me out too.
4. I feel my my best in dark warm colors that look rich and inviting
I know you think trying to explain colors through language is futile at best confusing at worst but I had to give it a shot cuz I don’t have a color analyst available to me. Thanks for reading!!
Hi :) I'm happy to share some thoughts, knowing that you'll appreciate they are a guesstimate. Language is how we shape and share our thoughts, unique and powerful, as confusing as clarifying, so my answers may sound annoyingly ambiguous. Meaning this in the nicest way, you've answered your question as well as I can, in #4, which sounds like Dark Autumn. Actually, your Q was, which am I unlikely to be. Spring and Summer seem unlikely. Bright Spring maybe. Assuming a colour analyst would have the same observations about white and cool, True Winter seems unlikely. People sometimes expect TW to have no yellow, but that's not quite right, they can have plenty of yellow in skin, eyes, or hair. I have the impression I'm saying things you already know...please ask if I can explain better.
@@ChristineScaman jackpot! I wasnt sure if you were going to reply so thank you. What you wrote was indeed helpful. I didnt mention any season names to not sound conceited or boastful cuz I only know things that Ive read and you are the expert. I am also heavily leaning towards dark autumn. And that is saying a lot because I deluded myself to thinking im some type of winter since I loved the palettes but I think its time to admit winters are my cousins instead of siblings. This would explain why Im still complimented while wearing black as opposed to white because at least some of the parameters are compatible. However I find colors that look black but arent black (enter my hair color) look so energizing where as black is draining some of that energy for its twisted goals hahahah. The deep autumn palette, the dark reds the dark greens the dark bronze colors and the reddish purples seem to come alive next to my skin. Like a chemical reaction. İnstead of the skin color and garment color existing in addition to each other it feels like together they become a 3rd distinct entity. I havent experienced this mysterious effect apart from the dark autumn colors. Please excuse my english its not easy to write as charming as you and english isnt my first language. Thanks for reading! I forgor to mention Im a man and my beard color is the same as my hair color, does that change anything regarding color analysis?
@@egeerdem410 Your English is excellent. 'Like a chemical reaction' was so impressive, I was jealous I didn't say it :) No change for beards or whether male or female. DA men look incredible in their colours. I knew one who was Egyptian and he could take the saturation of the reds up to Dark Winter level, really, he looked phenomenal. What an improvement when he switched white for parchment.
I live in London and havent seen those offices here either. You're mistaken if you think they're prevalent. Rare few around the globe.
@@M.Moadeli123 What you say is true. People shouldn't have to go so far out of their way to find a colour analyst. We have analysts in a few EU countries but not the UK and I'm never sure why, since there is a lot of awareness about it. I've often thought it was because there are so many analysts from other systems there already. The numbers are climbing though, and we receive enquiries often. Let's hope 2022 brings the opportunity to many more people.
What I find incredibly hard to find in autumn color choices are moisture wicking workout clothing. Almost all is in cold colors. The few pieces I have I had to hunt online and order. There are greens and blues that work, but if you want an adobe or cinnamon or somesuch color it is hard to find and when you do they are often in the premium clothing companies and expensive.,. I am loathe to spend 80$ for a workout or hiking shirt!
I appreciate your point. I wonder if it also matters where you live and the time of year. In Canada, there are companies like MEC and Eddie Bauer that offer good basics, even better on sale. I also wonder about Athleta and Fabletics, I'm not familiar with their product but the ads seem to show a lot of variety. Also wonder if workout brands follow the same colour trends as clothing retailers, of Autumn colour in the Aug-Oct window when you could stock up and wear them year round.
Will you ever do a winter version?
I've thought about a Winter series or about what to focus on, with no sure answers. Winter presents certain challenges. Appearance diversity is high, too high for general comments about hair colour, even from the perspective of darkness level. The number and variety of neutrals is low, with each group having grays between white and black that would look much the same on screen, which applies to metals just as well. For colours, we now have the Navy, Yellow, and Orange videos on the channel to compare the 3 W. Much of it comes down to how colours are used, as in the 'How To Look Bright Winter, Not True Winter' blog post and video, although this is also related to body type/line analysis. If you had suggestions for what the focus of the video might be that could be relatable to the wide audience on RUclips, I would love to know and would be happy to make a video. The one thought I've had so far is the Autumn side of DW, something the other Winters would not wear.

As for ideas, I've noticed how surprisingly diverse winters can be thanks to your videos and articles so I can imagine it'd be too difficult to do. Have you ever considered finding the most common subseasons among your fan base and readers? Or looking at your analytics to see which seasons attract the most views. (I'm also happy your most viewed video is a Dark Winter one lol)
It'd be a good way to boost your channel too, I think. And your videos always have value for every season because we learn to differentiate colors even better.
@@dulaman I'll keep thinking about a video around Seasons edging closer to the neighbour groups, with several requests for the Softs as well. The result is quite dependant on the images I'm able to find and I'll start looking and building up a file. Thank you for the suggestion :)

Sure enough, Neutral Season people can often wear a few colours from the neighbour group, and a few more if they're combined into prints or outfits. I haven't met anyone who wears every colour in both Seasons equally well, but some are so near the border that it takes some time to work out their actual Season.
