Pruning Leggy Inkberries With No Growth

  • Plants need leaves to photosynthesize so it would be a gamble to cut these way down. But there is a bit of new growth and there is nothing to lose. Pruning stimulates new growth so maybe they’ll get lucky. Removal and replacement can be costly. These folks are new homeowners so they inherited this yard-another reason to go for it because there is little attachment. As spring is approaching it’s a great time to prune because the plants are coming out of dormancy✂️. What do you think will happen? I’ll report back if they decide to go ahead with this plan.

    Cutting back my inkberry bush: That’s my EXACT question answered although mine is in a large container. QUESTION: when do I cut it back? (2/16/24 NJ)
