If they gave it the FA24 2.4l N/A motor from the BRZ and gave it a 6 speed box, it would be worthy of that RS title
I would throw down on that car in a heartbeat if it was real.
@@subterraneanguitartech Just curious why, when you could buy a WRX? I can't figure out why they would build something like that when most people who are interested in something like that would either go WRX or BRZ/GR86. Or are you looking for something naturally aspirated that's also AWD?
Honestly, just a 6 speed would make it worthwhile. Subaru's CVT is GARBAGE. There's literally nothing good I can say about it, and I say that as someone who owns a car with their CVT. I'd honestly take a hit in MPG happily for a swap to a standard automatic or better yet a manual.
@@thegiant17 My dad has a '19 3.6R Touring. and i love its high torque CVT automatic.. on the highway. attempt to do any high performance driving and it falls apart. But it does get pretty good fuel economy. It is not a performance car transmission in the slightest. If the RS had the WRX's SPT transmission.. maybe it would be a bit better. I really think it needs a 6 speed tho.
@@fuze3522I think the biggest gripe with CVT's is they're notoriously unreliable. Especially coming from a Subaru who doesn't have the best reputation for reliability.
bro this looks better than the wrx, if they brought back the sti hatch on this body it would've been so sickkkk
As an owner of a 2018 Forester XT, it’s so weird how Subaru sees “sport trim” as tacky red accents. They stripped the turbo from the 2019 Forester and added the red trim.
Better than how Sport means gaudy yellow/gold accents all over the Crosstrek lol
Cheaper for the manufacturer to produce.
Toyota TURD has entered the chat
One of the last good subaru's built. Good job. I drive a 17 xt and it's seen both oceans twice. Only part I hate is no hood scoop, so everyone just thinks it's a forester "sport".
@@Unchainedmaple888 I agree! I was wanting to buy Sport Crosstrek, but after seeing that yellow accents, I decided to just go for Premium model
Being a Subaru fan for over a decade, and have owning a RS coupe back in the day I’m glad how harsh you were on this. Subaru missed the mark and they need to know it.
I gotta lie I'm really impressed.
Hold up... can't tell if you mistyped or meant that 😂
@@jdeltaruff I meant exactly what I said. 😅
You took the words right out of @thetopher 's mouth.
🤣
hahaaa
I had a similar impression of this car. I felt that it really needed perhaps a revised version of the BRZ engine making ~220 HP. Not sure how many of you remember, but in 2009 Subaru had basically three performance Imprezas. The WRX and STI of course, but also the "Impreza 2.5GT". It had the old WRX's 220 or so HP whereas the incoming WRX jumped to 265. I think that rather than going with a 180HP 2.4RS, they could have had a 2.4GT. I suspect it would sell vastly better in this configuration rather than as it is now.
The WRX base can be had AT MSRP (or less) for about $31,000. I negotiated a Premium with keyless entry, STI short throw and the bigger screen for only about $32,000 despite MSRP being $34,000. That makes a WRX Premium only about $3,000 more than the Impreza RS. For that $3,000, I gained 80lb/ft of torque and 90 HORSEPOWER, as well as a true performance car suspension setup. If there was a 220HP Impreza 2.4GT available in auto and manual for $29,000, I suspect it would start eating into Civic Si sales in no time. Subaru already has an N/A 4cyl that can make over 200HP with an excellent powerband. Had they used such a design for a sport compact, it would be a game changer in today's market.
As is, if you MUST have a hatch, the Crosstrek is the better choice, as it's available with the same engine for not really more money, and has the benefit of offroad-capable ground clearance.
Same just leased a premium WRX for the base model price. Would not think of getting the RS with the current spec
Not everyone wants the high ground clearance, some of us still love hatchbacks and sedan's and the previous gen Impreza is a much better car
@@AkinaCelicaI'm in that camp myself. That's why I wish this car just had a bit more grunt.
@@BahhJustaLamb I feel like Subaru are losing their identity.
The new Impreza looks horrible, as does obviously the Crosstrek and so does the Forester now too.
I love all Subaru's not just fast ones and the previous cars are so much nicer. The only good looking Subaru's now are the Levorg, WRX and BRZ
Nice review. Thanks for talking me out of it. I'll stick with a Civic hatchback if I can find one at MSRP.
They shoulda gave us this in WRX form.
Yep.. just steal the whole WRX drivetrain and put it in here. Heck, detune it if you have to call it an RS/GT whatever so they don't "compete" with the WRX name.
@@taelee347 Or they can just give us the Levorg
I've been thinking about this and how putting the WRX engine in stuff like the Crosstrek or the Forester would be such an easy slam dunk that there must be some reason they're not doing it.... then I saw the WRX gets EPA rating of 21mpg avg. I almost guarantee the only reason they're not putting it in other cars is because of fleet average MPG laws... that being said I honestly think they should scrap the sedan WRX and use the hatch body instead, they're going for the utilitarian look anyways might as well make it actually useful
A WRX hatch would sell like bonkers. I know I'd trade mine in for one
@@brandongrover1168 no it wouldn't
Really just wish they offered a manual
Maybe they'll listen like Toyota did with the Supra and add it back.
Very good points. The stereo sounds pretty good on my phone and nice earbuds, but the optional package has the power seat, sunroof and Harman Kardon stereo, which like you stated must be even better.
I love watching your videos! Like you're the go to person when I'm looking into buying a car! Your videos are just so full of information and fun to watch! Thank you for your amazing content!
Loved my 2014 a few years ago. Not sure this has enough power to keep me happy though. But they are fantastic commuter cars. They are incredible in the snow as well.
I have a 2013 Sport that I love, had it 10 years this week, the lack of power is really the only downside to the car. Especially when I live a mile above sea level. An Impreza Sport with a manual and the engine out of the new BRZ is what Subaru needs to build for us.
@@paul3180 Just curious why, when you could buy a WRX? I can't figure out why they would build something like that when most people who are interested in something like that would either go WRX or BRZ/GR86. Or are you looking for something naturally aspirated that's also AWD?
I have a 2015, and I absolutely love it. Never gotten stuck anywhere, gas mileage is pretty good too, but it feels a bit lacking in power at times. I'm super glad I got the 5-speed in it because it made the car 10x as fun to drive, but I'm pretty sad to notice that Subaru seems to want to can the manual transmissions for newer entry-level cars
@@hhaste Price of an impreza is like half that of a wrx where I live on the used market and the impreza has half the amount of use than the wrx.
Thank you for all your videos Topher you’re the man
Unfortunately Subaru stopped caring about their enthusiast customers when they announced the discontinuation of the STI cars…
Turns out "enthusiast customers" didn't buy them either. A company has to make money.
That's simply not true. They're going to continue it soon, with something else. It will most likely be a hybrid based performance car. They've already filed for trademarks using the name called "STe". If they didn't care about enthusiasts, they wouldn't make models of the Crosstrek like the Wilderness. It's a different kind of enthusiast but still, enthusiast. The WRX is nearly equally as good as the former STi. The only thing it's missing is Brembo's, basically. Performance wise, it's equal.
@@hhaste Making the “STe” as a WRX with cvt and hybrid system is blasphemy to most Subaru enthusiasts
@@lilmoris1 Being a small automaker, Subaru needs funding to make the jump to EVs. It is already having a hard time delivering hybrids. Can't rely on Toyota forever.
The new WRX is a de tuned sti. 350 hp with access port and bolt ons. enthusiasts would know this. Gas is not going to best electric in performance. So why waste the money? The law is enforcing electric vehicles. An enthusiast would know. 🤷♂️
You can buy a Legacy premium for less money and get 35mpg not 33mpg with the same engine.
People that complain it's not available as a sedan don't remember the legacy exists.
It’s a solid handling, stiff chassis, great riding, good power, quiet and comfortable, feature filled AWD hatch. It’s not a WRX hatch but neither was the original RS. I drove a new, ‘99 RS coupe, for a week courtesy of my buddy owning a Subaru dealership. It is what sold me on the brand buying an ‘02 WRX wagon a couple years later. This seems to fulfill most of the qualities of the original, albeit less cool and no manual. This works for me, but I’m keeping the WRX.
This and the Wilderness Crosstrek would be fun dailies if they came with a stick. It's sad when even Subaru are abandoning manual transmissions in their entry level cars.
Manuals are completely irrelevant these days. DCT's are superior.
I hate this kind of talk like why even bring it up when you're not going to buy a new Manuel car? 😂
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ Come on, most of the people posting comments are not buying any new cars. Subaru or otherwise. After all, talk is cheaper than buying a new car.
Lol no one cross-shopping a cross trek and Impreza cares about a manual. There’s a reason manufacturers are moving on to autos and CVTs, because no one buys NEW manual cars.
@@boygonewhoopdataZZ ... I tried to buy, or at least look at a manual Crosstrek in 2019. The nearest one to me (here in SW Ohio) was more than 300 miles away and it was a base model. The nearest Premium manual Crosstrek was more than 500 miles away. I bought my 6th choice, a manual WRX. Subaru killed it themselves with low availability.
I find this car to be the perfect Niche. Yes, it isn't what the enthusiast hopes and dreams desire. It's not a turbo Impreza. 5 Speed. Hatchback WRX. But it has excellent handling, is a better value than the crosstrek for an urban commuter and the gas mileage is still good. My wife needs a car soon and this is the one. Light, nimble, easy to park, safe to drive in PNW. 10/10 for our needs.
Similar reasons for why I bought one. I liked it just fine. I’ve owned a WRX, and this is not that, obviously. But, for what it does and what my needs are, I am content.
It looks so beautiful!
11:39 nice save
RS gets HK stereo but it’s an option package
I really really hate Subarus infotainment and air controls now.. it requires extra attention to change where you want the airflow while driving. Bring back the knobs!
100%.
Well I was excited when I initially heard RS was making a comeback. I had hoped for a little more power than the other 2.5 cars. But they clearly aren’t marketing it the same as the old days. It looks great and the feature set is good enough with the exception of the audio. Wish it had a little better system or an option for upgrade. One last thought. A little bit more spoiler would make it look even better. Guess I will have to see it in person and maybe drive it to see if it’s worth the money to me. First impression for the money is not worth it. Sadly.
... and gold wheels. can't forget the gold wheels.
@@K03sport I’ve purchased aftermarket wheels for every car I have owned since 2007 so that doesn’t even matter. Not to mention that not all 2.5 RS had gold wheels back then. That is the same to me as choosing a paint color. Doesn’t really matter.
Subaru obsession with CVT gotta stop...
I think it's gonna stop when they go all electric lol
Electric cars don't have gear ratios 🤦🏻♂️
@@chaarleess CVT dont either.
It’s less an obsession more it’s there only option
@@chaarleess that's why they'll stop by then, because it won't have a transmission... Lol
I think Subaru will be bought out by Toyota by then lol.
It needs a manual. It has to be possible. MCM took a Levorg and swapped it to manual without a peep from the ECU. They were lucky that there were interior bits that could be swapped in. If the same is true for this car, it has to be possible, it just has to be done.
Oof. I was so excited reading this title as I didn't even know Subaru released this, but man, Subaru just continues to drop the ball. I've owned a '98 Impreza, '02 WRX, '04 WRX, '11 WRX, and '18 STI. Finally left Subaru in '21, and I don't think I'll be buying another one anytime soon (most certainly not a newer one). I'm looking at getting another vehicle later this year, and if I stick with the $30kish price point I'll likely go with the Civid hatchback at this point.
Love this car. Just wish there were a little more power. But it's almost perfect. Wish the Corolla had an AWD hybrid with the same engine as the Corolla Cross hybrid. That would be good competition for this.
I was literally deciding between these two cars and the Mazda and WRX of course.
Went with the RS. No regrets in this market- car shopping was absolutely miserable this time around. Coof disease changed the whole process.
Thank you. This video opened my eyes and I am now second thinking getting a 2024 Crosstrek Limited (given that the Crosstrek/Impreza share most of the same interior and mechanical components). Maybe I should reconsider the Crosstrek and aim for getting the Forester Wilderness instead this summer.
The Forester Wilderness doesn't have the turbo engine like the Outback Wilderness unfortunately.
So basically the only improvements from the 2020 Sport are more power, and wireless carplay / charging, and a temperature gauge
But now you have to deal with: disabling start stop every time, no manual ebrake, bad / laggy infotainment (wasn't an issue on 2020 since it was barely used), and is missing manual buttons, no sedan model, no manual option, weird placed cupholder / place for your phone, more costly, apparently a bump on the pedal
At that point buy a brz, civic, or mazda 3
Hopefully there ends up being a much better aftermarket for the RS model
I have a 13 impreza hatchback sport limited I might just keep it. It would be cool if the 24 had the red lights in the interior
My biggest complaint is that these car companies shove every control of HVAC and what not into the screen.
I agree, that's why I love my 2023 BRZ, ALL of the AC controls are physical knobs and buttons and they are really good ones to boot.
@@djSmokeShow I'm fine with pretty much all other controls kn the screen, just not HVAC!
182hp with no manual option. Proper NPC car for the masses badged to make it look sporty.
It lost me at 182hp and "CVT", definitely an NPC car
NPC car is a perfect description 💀
NPCs buy SUVs
Amen
Every automatic is an npc car. Ok.
I really wish they'd bring back the WRX wagon and put a goddamn six speed in there again.
I have a new BRZ and a Legacy and can't help but feel like this RS is a huge miss. It should have had the more powerful 2.4 BRZ motor and a six speed option, ESPECIALLY for that price point.
I agree but also, why when you could just buy a WRX? It wouldn't be this price point if I had the 2.4 and 6 speed, definitely higher.
@@hhaste Both my BRZ and my Legacy were 30k a piece. I'm no expert, but based on that I feel that Subaru could have put the 2.4 in the RS and sold it for the same price. And the reason for wanting that configuration over the WRX (awesome car) is because an AWD hatch with a strong naturally aspirated engine would be pretty cool. It's actually not my cup of tea either way, just sharing my thoughts. Overall Subaru is putting out some great vehicles.
Why no manual?! The previous gen’s manual was simply fantastic, a proper direct linkage gearbox that instantly put a smile on your face even with the rev hang and no sway bar on a base model.
They stuck with old school 5 speed for a long time, it would’ve been better with a 6 speed because of shorter gear ratios and additional overdrive gear
Because America… everyone wants bigger cars and automatics/cvts. Manuals just don’t sell enough
@@v8_sami most of the manual sold are in mostly performance cars not so much in regular cars
@@v8_sami Manuals sell fine, it just doesn't make any sense in a car like this.
Probably because the 5 people here that say they would buy one didn't.
Man, those wheels look so similar to the stock wheels that are one the Wrx lol
Its crazy to me they gave this the option to change drive mode but not my 2023 Touring XT - I dont understand why I cant have the function of sport # mode in a bigger engine.
I chose this over the Crosstrek because I am tired of black plastic cladding. And, I wanted a car, not a CUV. I don’t live on a dirt road, I don’t do the off-road thing or care to. Hence, I don’t need the extra ground clearance the Crosstrek offers.
Nice the new mazda 3
New Prius, for the same price, faster than that piece of marketing😂😢
the big laggy screen on the new suabrus is the only thing stopping me buying a subaru
Subaru screwed this up by not adding a manual to this.
god that infotainment system looks like my 2012 samsung galaxy s3
MT and oem roof rails. Then I’d only think about it.
Although for snow regions, this might be a decent a to b awd daily in a couple yrs or so in the used market.
Glad to see Subaru is putting a true engine temp gauge in there.
Also, it's disappointing Subaru didn't rework the seat positioning. I drive a 2022 Impreza and feel the seat could go lower even when it's at the lowest setting. And that's when i'm only 5'11".
Have any clue when the 2024 BRZ will be out too?
Man they didnt even put an AT on it?!
WTF A CVT?!
CVT in this car is better than anything else.. and I hate CVT's.
I love this! we have a 2019 sport impreza hatch and absolutely adore it. Will most likely trade that in for this, nice power bump too.
I went from a '19 Crosstrek Premium (same 2 liter engine as your '19 Impreza Sport) to a '21 Crosstrek Sport (same engine as the Impreza RS) and the difference is very noticeable.
I love hatchbacks/liftbacks....
Gotta love Michigan roads
Manual transmission please!!! Otherwise, not interested. I miss my 2004. 😢
I know that Topher only compared the Impreza price vs. other Subarus, but a Civic Hatchback blows this thing out of the water for the same price...just get snow tires for winter if needed.
So does the AWD Mazda 3 which is a better car in so many ways
not at all. The Subaru can do winter without winter tires or slip all over then place when it rains. I just test drove a new civic sport and it drives like a front wheel drive car. Subaru is for people that like driving a AWD car for its constant traction everywhere.
@@robob221 that's nonsense. A FWD car with dedicated winter tires will handle snow/ice better than an AWD car on all seasons. Not sure what you mean by saying a Civic drives like a FWD...the Subaru Impreza understeers at least as much as a Civic at the limit. I grew up in Western Michigan with lake effect snow and did just fine without AWD.
@@tylerrynberg I am not down playing the ability of winters tires, what I am saying is that if the rear wheels can drive you will have more control in snow and rain, that is physics. This is not an argument, winter tires are absolutely necessary on FWD when you want to get home in confidence for a reason, not the case for AWD. I am contemplating the importance of full time AWD myself as I am cross shopping a Mazda 3 awd, Impreza RS, and civic SI. I only get snow 30-60 days out of the year so for the most part, rain is really the enemy for spirited driving. That's where AWD shows its strength when you turn the wheel and accelerate. Other than that, the "on demand" system in the Mazda may be a great middle ground.
@robob221. "That's
physics". Bro, you are
so fundamentally
wrong about this, yet so
confident. AWD helps
with getting power to all
4 wheels, but that has
ZERO to do with
traction or stopping
power. Lookup any
number of countless
articles abd videos
explaining the actual
physics of this. TIRES
are what matter,
overwhelmingly, for
winter driving. Because
they are the point of
contact on the slippery
road. Front and back
wheel drive cars with
winter tires are
absolutely safer in
slippery conditions than
any AWD vehicle not
using winter tires. That
AWD drive means
nothing when trying to
grip the road or come to
a stop with tires that
literally can't grip the
road nearly as well.
AWD helps in deeper
snow or sand to
accelerate or get over
obstacles. It helps with
overall handling. But
tires are what REALLY
matter for gripping. You are right that
this is not an argument,
but you are the one who
is losing that argument.
Its physics.
Why can't Subaru just call it a day and put the 2.4L turbo in this? This looks way better than the WRX to me.
@TheTopher Quick side question but steering wheels like this or the BRZ which are leather wrapped. What have you been treating yours with in terms of oil or just water to protect or clean the surface?
He uses Mom's spaghetti
Awesome! Thank you for sharing, I was checking this car out for maybe my future car. Maybe
Just buy an Impreza for less money, it's the same thing basically. $29k for some badges 😂
@@The2004STi I actually own an Impreza. I like the car a lot, but my biggest complaint is 148hp just ain't enough. But I don't want something that takes supreme gas either, so the impreza RS is a nice middle ground.
I'm glad Subaru is giving us a sportier trim of the Impeza and I do like the way this one looks. It's a shame though that most of the extra sportiness is just appearance based and not in the actual hardware or perforrmance.
yeah, subaru has done an awful job with sport trims for the past couple years. I have a 2020 impreza sport and the only sport features are the tuned CVT with automated shifts, a sport mode, and a red accented interior. Still has 152hp and 145 lb/ft. of torque. It's mind-blowingly slow
@@jacksonlandry4797my 2004 Legacy had 13 more hp and 20 more torque
When I think of RS, I think of fast car trims like a Ford ST product or what Porsche does with their RS cars. These automakers slapping "RS" on their cars for no reason with 0 performance changes/benefits is really stale.
Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see much reason to get this over a Mazda3 hatch AWD. Mazda has the better fit and finish, infotainment, not a CVT, more power, etc.
You're not missing anything. The mazda3 and the Civic are infinitely better than this
That interior looks like it was from 2012
Why don't they offering with torque converter?
When you turn off Vehicle Dynamics Control, is it actually fully disabled or will it still interfere at the limit?
Test drove the 2L back in 2021. It had sufficient power, but the seatback was not agreeable to my back.
I've been eyeing the Impreza since 2011, but never got one. It was always slow, had oil consumption issue back in 2012, and always a compromise.
Unless they come out with a good PHEV or EV, it will never happen.
I have a 2018 civic sport CVT with 182bhp wonder how they compare.
I like that everyone gets in a car and says oh this is slow what a shitty car haha.
From the side reminds me of like a ford focus hatch/RS/ST
except those actually made good power, unlike subarus
My Outback Wilderness has the 2.4L turbo. Really like it, very responsive. Every Subaru I have driven without the turbo has felt sluggish. The 2.5 felt like it has no power if you were already rolling at 65 on the highway. Really hoping this comes with the turbo in the next few years and I will pick one up.
Really? When I had an Outback with the turbo as a service loaner, I thought it was sluggish in the lower rpm and only wakes up when the turbo gets going. My Crosstrek Sport (with the same 2.5 liter as the Impreza RS) is a lot more responsive in comparison.
@@dannytse8767 Interesting. I just got the 2023 so maybe it’s been improved? When I test drove the Crosstrek it felt really sluggish entering the highway and if I tried to pass it was pretty much not happening. Are you sure you drove an Outback with the turbo. To my knowledge only the XT and Wilderness have them. The 2.4L turbo has been really responsive and my take offs from a stop can be ridiculous if I actually want to gas it.
@@Bohvey It was definitely an Outback XT since the Outback Wilderness hasn't been introduced back then. I was surprised but I do think there is a certain amount of getting used to an unfamiliar powertrain. When I first got my Crosstrek Sport, I didn't think the 20% increase in horsepower and torque made much of a difference. However, over time, I definitely notice the difference.
@@dannytse8767 The 2.5L in the Crosstrek has a 182 HP and 178 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4L turbo Boxer has 260 HP and 277 lb-ft of torque in the Outback. I’m shocked that didn’t feel different but at the end of the day it sounds like we are both happy with our Subarus. I just really want another hot hatch like the old WRX. When that happens, I’ll be trading in the Outback.
I can already see these slugging around town at 11/10ths driven by guys who couldnt afford a WRX. That RS badging will be truly empowering.
Great review as always Topher
You sound like a pocket watcher worrying about what others can afford on not afford that’s the problem wrong with world ppl always looking down at others!
I swear i always see previous gen crosstreks speeding everywhere in oregon & wonder how people are able to do it with 140 hp haha
Yeah how dare they enjoy the car they spent money on. They should've gotten the car with even more power, so they have to use even less of it on the streets. Otherwise elitists may talk shit about them online. That would matter so much
nice mazda 3 hatch
$29k for an Impreza with a 2.5L is disgusting. Worth $23k
Seems like you guys finally get a little taste of car prices in Europe
What AWD vehicle would you compare as a better value? Thanx!
This model with the 22+ WRX engine, a manual transmission, and an older infotainment would've been a perfect car imo. Ah man the missed opportunity...
Isn't that what we all want
Just a gosh dang wrx hatchback
@@McSteveIrwin apparently everyone wants one now that it’s gone….
Why? At that point, just buy a WRX lol..
180hp with that average fuel economy?
Put a CVT in a RS and 29k? Subaru are out of their mind
Unfortunately that subaru doesn't have dual clutch gearbox. But that impreza RS must be 6 speed manual.
Damn they really killed their impreza heritage huh
Its model code starts with GU, but I can't find the full model code.
My 2009 impreza looks more premium than this almost.. At least with the plastics etc. Hope they more cars like this though!
I feel the same. I own a gen 3 2008 Impreza Sport 2.5i Manual 5Dr hatchback (170HP) and a 2021 STi base model Sedan (310 HP). I kept the 2008 hatch because it's very practical for the space in the trunk (for example if I go to Ikea or I need to pick up bulky stuff) while still being fun to drive with the manual 5 speed and a 2.5 liter N/A 4 cyl. The STI is a blast in comparison to the 2.5i, but I don't want to drive the STI too often in the salty rustbelt during winter time and the sedan trunk is really not as practical, so I'm keeping the 2008 2.5i Hatch for winter and for transporting bulky stuff. I wish they had made the 2024 RS with a manual transmisson... at the very least a 5 speed if not a 6 speed. I'm thinking the 182 HP of the 2024 RS must feel quite anemic with a CVT transmission.
RS? LOL, not this one boys
Why would you want to turn off the lane departure warning ?
Should I get this or a Nissan rogue?🤔
@thetopher, is that an Omega Speedmaster?
The 2024 model is supposed to be quieter than the 2023 model; did you notice a difference in noise reduction?
Definitely, noticeably less road/wind noise
I just bought a base model Impreza the other day. I test drove the RS and it just looked "sportier", but the drive wasn't any different from the bade model. Wasn't worth the extra money in my opinion, so I stuck with the base model
I'm really looking forward to the crosstreck wilderness review!
Desperately needs the manual. If they offered it, it would completely change the character of the car.
true but people dont buy manuals, people always say that but no one actually goes out and buys one in support of Subaru.
@richardwilliams6256 Just bought a 2021 STi MANUAL TRANSMISSION in 2023 because I did'nt want a CVT impreza with the anemic 152HP 2.0i base impreza. Only americans/canadians don't buy manuals... In Europe, manuals are still the rage !
So it became a smaller mazda CX5 on the outside
I just hope it’s not as slow as last gen and it gets a sedan version
Would’ve pick up a cx5 or crosstrek for this money…
Sad to see Subaru fading away but they deserve some of this. No manual transmission and this bs powerplant. No thanks, they can keep this. The only good thing they did of late was the STI-S209 and hope to get a low-mileage one soon.
Ummmm... No spare tire? I get not having a spare on a Ford GT or a Corvette... but on a 4 door hatchback? Are they insane?
It's interesting to watch reviews and tests on this car by a number of different reviewers, some who do go deep into depth about the mechanical side of the vehicle, and to see and read such varied results. Some say it is more fun than a Mazda 3 and others in the segment, to throw around, though limited by it's tires. And then others say its not so fun and it has not power lol. There must be some middle ground where it is a pretty decent little auto for the money. Though I believe Subaru, should up the power a little at least or w a turbo, it has to be a bit quicker than the Forester, Legacy and Outback with the 2.5...how could it not be? Given that, it must be a bit of fun to throw around. I can have fun throwing my mother's Forester 2.5 around, this is lower and weighs less.
Honestly curious why I'd buy this over a Legacy Premium with the same 2.5L. Prices aren't much different.
With better cars available now, I can no longer understand why anyone buys a Subaru.
Is it a lot quiet then before? This will be my prefect small daily commute car🎉
Better options
Get yourself a corolla hatch. Cheaper and nicer. Plus, it comes with a 6sp mt option.
@@EvolutionIX219 Or a base model golf GTI.
@@EvolutionIX219 don’t wanna deal with manual. Too much traffic jam and I need bigger trunk. Mazda 3 and Corolla hatch are too small. It’s either civic hatch or Impreza hatch
@@EvolutionIX219 No more manual Corolla (short of the GR) for 2023.
It’s a great affordable car for those who need to get from point A to B.
now can we get a WRX with this styling and no cheap plastic cladding??????
No manual transmission, no manual handbrake, no more sti... I mean come on Subaru
in regards to the infotainment has anyone perfected the touch/ response time when it comes to navigating through the menus ? I feel like all the major brands are all behind in tech lol
Off the top of my head - Tesla, BMW and Hyundai are doing a pretty good job
I probably wouldn’t be trading in my 2022 Impreza wagon if it had the 2.5. That being said I’m getting a wrx. Lol
Subaru really thinks adding red to the car makes it faster lol
