I love seeing old engines roar back to life. It's really gratifying work and good to see you guys enjoying it. Thank you for taking the time to share that experience with us.
A freind of mine had this same engine. We had it on a small boat growing up in the 1950's. It really flew over the water. A dynamite little engine. Very powerful for a 10hp.
My Dad in the mid1950’s, used to rent a small boat from Moody’s on Tupper Lake, in upstate NY. It came with a Mercury outboard brings back great memories thank you.
Is this a KE7 or a KG4? The KE7 is a 10 HP and the KG4 is a 7 1/2 HP but the KG4 (still 7 1/2 HP) is a higher performance than the KE4 because it has much higher compression due to "pads" or shaped aluminum the mirror image of the pistons. The KG4 was rather rare
To be honest it's sort of a mutt built from a few different engines; I'm not really sure what it is. The gas tank is not original to the engine, which is not original to the midsection, which is not original to the quicksilver lower unit. So..... who knows.

Most of my stuff is more informative but I just wanted to share this moment. Huge relief, way more excited when I heard it pop.

No, but I am going to do a video on failing clear coat soon.
I have one, and the last time I ran it it felt like more than 10 hp.

awesome! I need to get back to this project.
Nice! I’ve got a KE7 for a Seaflea my son and I have been building (MiniMost). Going to need a carb rebuild as well. Fun to hear it pop!
That is really cool, that is a beautiful old outboard. Antique that rips like it did back in the day!
Hope so!
That kind of reaction remind myself, I feel good for you! I'm excited to see it running! Cheers from Quebec

@ADDvanced is there a way to tell from casting marks? I have a 10 hp and a 5 hp. Or at least I think it's a 5 hp.
