  • 50mph with 10hp! This is the ninth episode of my mini 3-point hydroplane series, which documents my restoration of an 8' Class A/B 3 point hydroplane powered by a 1949 Kiekhaefer Mercury KE7H outboard built for hydro racing.
In this episode, I'll bring you along on the first on water testing. Fall is here, temps are dropping, the water is cold, but I wanted to ride this thing before the snow hits. Don't get too excited, watch the video to see why.

Check out this pretty rad documentary about the designer of this boat here:
    • The Life Of William D ...
It's only 8 feet long and about 4 feet wide, but this little thing should hit 40-50mph when properly set up, and the sensation of speed being only inches from the water should make it seem like 100mph. Although it's in pretty great condition, there are a couple things I want to do to it before I get her wet; watch the video for my plans on refinishing the hull with a trick graphite and epoxy coating to reduce drag, and rebuild the steering area to improve the aesthetics.
Hopefully watching this will help convince people to tackle their own boat restorations; it's dirty work sometimes but it's not too complex or challenging, so please leave a message if you have any questions and I'll try to help.
If you liked this video or learned something, please check out some of my other videos and stay tuned for updates to the SST project!
