Refreshed this year, the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas gets a new front fascia and headlights. The previous four- and six-cylinder engines have been replaced by a new turbocharged four-cylinder. The VW's interior gets a makeover with new materials, and all Atlas models now include a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats.
The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is the largest SUV in VW's lineup, slotting above the compact Tiguan and subcompact Taos crossovers. With three rows of seating, the Atlas is an ideal family hauler at home in country club and school parking lots.
This year, the Atlas gets its most significant updates since its last major refresh in 2021. Although the exterior receives only subtle design updates, bigger improvements can be found under the hood and inside the spacious cabin. For adventurous drivers, two new light off-roaders called Atlas Peak Edition SE with Technology and Peak Edition SEL with Technology join the lineup. They include more rugged tires and distinctive exterior trim. Most of these revisions improve the Atlas' standing in a very competitive class, but some of the new tech controls may prove frustrating for drivers, including touch sliders that replace some of the basic climate control functions.
Still, the redesigned Atlas is an excellent choice among other three-row SUVs. Its passenger space and cargo capacity match up well against the popular Kia Telluride. We'd also pit it against the Honda Pilot, which received a smart redesign last year. The all-new Mazda CX-90 is also making waves for its luxury aspirations, and we expect it will be a tough rival when it hits dealer showrooms. Buyers looking for a slightly sportier profile might also consider the Atlas Cross Sport two-row SUV (reviewed separately), which sacrifices some passenger space for a leaner look.

We love our 2021.5 Atlas SEL. Adults can sit in the back. Smooth and quiet. Over two years of ownership and one service call for low coolant warning when it went 30 F below. Turns out the sensor just needed to be reset. Four years of warranty is comforting as well.

I've had my '24 for 2 months now. Rides great and mileage is in the low 20's. One thing I dislike is how nearly everything is controlled though the big screen. My attention is focused too much on that and not enough on the road. VW bring back the knobs and buttons!

The lack of real buttons and knobs for radio and climate is the deal breaker for me. They will fix it with the redesign in a couple of years. Very annoying

Nice. I'd go with a Cross Sport as I don't need the third row. I always wanted a VW but feared them until I got my 21 Arteon. I only have 30k miles on it but its never been back to the dealer and its really fun to drive.
I am looking into the CS now. Great review.

I have 2 kids, got a 2018 atlas, v6 awd sel, back in December 2017. Been pretty reliable and had no issues. Its honestly been the perfect family utility vehicle due to its size and function. From moving people to large items or both, its among best in class. Only complaint is the gas mileage and wished the driver area had more softer materials at touch points. Otherwise its perfect. From what i have seen its either a hit or miss with vw and reliability. People either have the worst experience with them or perfectly reliable. I personally dont trust VWs turbo engines and felt safer with with their v6 which has been proven to be bulletproof for the most part. Tied with that asin transmission, same Toyota uses, i have confidence the drivetrain will last.

My wife has a 2021 Volkswagen atlas. She hit a deer in May 2023 seven months ago and it has been sitting at the autobody shop every sense. Volkswagen cannot tell us when they will be manufacturing a hood or bumper and this is left us with no car, but a car payment and insurance to pay for. I would not buy a Volkswagen atlas or any Volkswagen because they are not manufacturing parts to repair their cars.

Seen this, and the Cross Sport, on my other favorite car review channels. If I were shopping in this segment, I’d probably go with the Cross Sport instead just because I don’t necessarily need the third row. Still the same specs as the 3-row, and just as spacious in the back for being a 2-row. The drivetrain looks to be a bit better, too. I was thinking about test driving the old 3-row Atlas just to see exactly what the old VR6 engine is like since one used dealer has a few (higher mileage) on the cheap side. I’d be spending a fortune in gas for it, though, and that’s one thing that’s turning me away from one. Still, I gotta think if they’re giving this to the Atlas, I’m wondering what they’re cooking up for the Tiguan. I know that one’s bound for a mid-cycle refresh at some point.

SO many people are cheap and don't take care of their car properly.

The bad points of my VW Atlas 2024 are
You can’t put the seat heat ON at night in order to have a warm seat or steering once you start the engine at morning inside your house
    Secondly
You can’t put the car on Eco mode permanently
But we have to change to eco mode every time we start the car

If Atlas is V6 then it was reliable.....VW is making great profit by packaging 2lit engine like in a mitsubishi lancer🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣....instead of boosting power of V6 Atlas with electric motors they went to worst....TV sticking out, no gear, no center dial, no ac controls😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
