Some great choices there Tony. We love the vegan food on an evening in Dishoom but haven't tried their breakfasts. One of our favourite breakfast spots is the Edinburgh Larder in Blackfriars Street, just off the Royal Mile. Their food is superb for vegans and carnivores alike. By the way, I noticed you stood outside the Guilford Arms, behind the Apple store. That pub has one of the most beautiful doorways in Edinburgh - maybe an idea for another video - ornate doorways or gorgeous looking pubs?
Great to see you mentioned Scran. My favorite breakfast place when visiting Edinburgh. When people I know, say their visiting Edinburgh I always tell them to check out Scran for a good Scottish Breakfast
The sadly long gone R W Forsyth's department store on Princes St built the building that Dishoom on St Andrew Sq is in today, hence the F and stonework on the masonary above Dishoom's, the exact same stonework can be seen above what is now Topshop/Topman on Princes St. The Princes St store and St Andrew Sq building were and still are connected by a "flying link" in Meuse Lane.
We ate at the City Cafe as soon as we arrived in Edinburgh in 2017. My kids made friends in there that they are still in touch with even today! Good food, friendly staff.
These all look like great suggestions. I'll be in Edinburgh in a few weeks and will definitely look up one or more of these places. I may even splurge for a meal at the Ivy ;)
I had my only breakky in Edinburgh on the 3rd floor (?) of a big souvenir shop along the main street. It was a full Scottish and very nice. But if I'd known about your "Snax" I would have enjoyed that just as much. Maybe next visit :) Thanks for another outstanding video.
I totally love city cafe for breakfast I always have scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with avocado. Could you visit the 3 sisters for breakfast we haven't been there.
Another great video and great breakfast choices!! We only get to spend 3-4 months in Edinburgh each year ( the rest of our time is in California) but your channel helps with the long months away from home !!!!! Thanks
Thanks for this video I've been thinking of trying new places to eat in Edinburgh for a while I'm so bored of the usual places I go. There is a really nice cafe in Bernard street, Leith called Cafe Marmalade they do a really nice all day breakfast and lunch and dinner. They also do take away.
Great timing, we are returning to beautiful Edinburg nex Friday and staying in apartments on the royal mile, so your recommendations are very much appreciated 👍 Thank you
I was in London for a long weekend recently and had breakfast at Dishoom… their bacon naan roll was delicious… you have to try it Tony. Another great vlog, I’ve just booked a holiday in Edinburgh in September, I fell in love with it last year. Best wishes to you and all the family x
My friends and I ate at the Edinburgh Larder on Blackfriar Street I think it was. The biscuits jam and the clotted cream was delicious. Get there early, there's a queue
Oh brilliant mate gonna check that Snacks place out looks well guid!. Cafe Royal is a stunning place me and my wife had a few drinks in there a few weeks back 👍
Have been to City, Dishoom and Snax. If you want the wow factor at breakfast Dishoom is amazing. City is nice and Snax good value for money and great if your out and about.
City caf!! I also remember where that Starbucks is, used to be the Pancake Place. That was the best breakfast place ever. Sweet or savoury, or mixed. Sad its gone. And id rather go to my local "greasy spoon" for a breakfast, its always better and great value for money. And if it is local, its usually what the Americans call a "mom and pop shop", meaning independently owned and run.
Hi Tony (indy of Edinburgh)? The family up Edinburgh in March family wedding 🥳 me and the boss( mrs) are staying on more importantly where would you recommend for breakfast personally we got cafe elmrow next to us opposite Carlton hill and great chanel by the way yes I've subscribed. Hello from london
Nice..that fry-up breakfast looks pretty good! Just wondering, is the Guildford Arms pub still around?..it was located next to Cafe Royal pub, if i remember correctly
Snax is an Edinburgh institution! I used to work around the corner and i bought my lunch from there practically every day. They used to have a couple of shops. Not sure if they still do.
City Cafe is a shadow of what it used to be when Sam opened it. I used to be involved with the anniversary parties in there. Here’s a question for ya…Why did the Tron (Hunter Sq) stop being used as the place to muster on Hogmanay almost overnight? Was it when the big organisers became involved in the running of the Hogmanay celebrations? Mind u used to actually bump into folk there on Hogmanay, before it became a tourist event.
I love your videos. Most helpful! I am planning atrip to your beautiful city for the first time in the first part of October. Is this a busy time? What to expect for the weather? I am from the US in the Pacific Northwest so I am used to raining. Thank you and I will drop your name!
Thank you for showing all these nice places! defenitely going to check some of these out. Can you tell where i can get breakfast on december 26th? Im a little scared i have to starve...
The Morrison grocery store has a good breakfast to cheap 30 selling and enjoyable if you're on a budget stayed hybrid Budget Hotel right across the street with a shopping plaza at the guile Shopping Center
Forgot to mention, the Clock Cafe on the corner opposite the bridge in The Shore down Leith is another of our favourite breakfast spots. Lovely food including vegan options.
So I was making a list of where to go for breakfast and my daughter is telling me as well the names of the places she has gone! I think she has gotten a great education here 🤣🤣 So we will be checking it out. She loves Snax!
Dishoom havnt manage to feed me yet! always a wait of an hour, so I walk away hungry to another restaurant…one of the angry faces above building is mine…😊
As I’ve been binging I’ve noticed you said you’ll tell the story of Burke and hare I already know the story but would love to hear it from you. If you have and I can’t find it can you give the link?
One of my questions is what are the rules for having dinner at a pub with kids? I have older kids and they enjoy pub food. Can you take your kids in the evenings or is their time frame that they allow kids in?
What is the difference to a full english breakfast and a scottish breakfast? Looks the same to me with the beans, black pudding, sausages, egg, tomatoes....
😱 OHH NOOOO!!!! The American scourge of breakfast! (I’m American, and I refuse to eat at a McDonald’s.) I prefer to eat at a locally owned cafe or restaurant, that serves locally sourced ingredients in its menu items. Better all around that way.
Probably already been mentioned but "preserves" are basically jams and stuff.... If you go to Italy though and try and Italianise it when at breakfast....don't because "preservativi" are condoms!!!!
I went to the City Café and had a delicious Scottish breakfast. Great recommendation 👍
My husband loves snax cafe 😊
Thanks mate. Heading to the Old Town soon and your video was helpful
Lol the joy of a great greasy spoon breaky 👍🏻
The best!

Thanks for the notes. Will be headed across the pond to Edinburgh in 2 weeks. Staying by Grassmarket and breakfast is my hearts desire.
My husband took me to Snax...great rolls. He used to pick up a breakfast before he started his shift at the St James Thistle Hotel.
Great to see you mentioned Scran. My favorite breakfast place when visiting Edinburgh. When people I know, say their visiting Edinburgh I always tell them to check out Scran for a good Scottish Breakfast
Love when you show where to eat ,Restaurants etc. Always looking for new places for my next visit. Thanks .
Loving the pure joy in your face at the end. Nothing better than peace and quiet in the car solo eating a fry up and for a bargain price of 6 quid!!
A lovely bit of info! Thank you!
Love the fact that you were so excited about that breakfast.
I used to love snacks my breakfast place when had a very early shift at St James centre
I was in Edinburgh last week and the stack breakfast in scran was fantastic.
We ate at the City Cafe as soon as we arrived in Edinburgh in 2017. My kids made friends in there that they are still in touch with even today! Good food, friendly staff.

Snax looks awesome ❤
These all look like great suggestions. I'll be in Edinburgh in a few weeks and will definitely look up one or more of these places. I may even splurge for a meal at the Ivy ;)
Going for the first time this weekend. Perfect Video!

Every time I’m in Edinburgh, I have to go to Snax’s and SocialBite. Love them.

"Preserves" = jam. At least on this side of the pond, it's usually got chunks of fruit in it.
Good to know about Snax because we were thinking about staying at the Motel One next time we come. Thanks Tony for another very informative video.
Great video!
Yummy, yummy, yum...
what a video!
Made me hungry, just watching 🍳☕️
Good tips, Tony, will definately put them to use in July ☀️
hello from Denmark 🌸🌱
Excellent video, Tony. Very cool that Snax has such a great breakfast at a reasonable price right around the corner from the Balmoral.
That's a huge, yummy looking breakfast! Is that a blood pudding in the lower left corner of the take away box??🤩
Great video
I love how you make sure you give us a landmark or reference to find all these restaurants.

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm half expecting Gregg's to get a mention... 😉
When you were walking to the Snax Cafe, was that the new Gleneagles Hotel on the left just up from Harvey Nichols.....?
Hi Tony, love this channel! Preserves are jams for the toast like strawberry, rasberry, etc. How can I contact you?
So I was making a list of where to go for breakfast and my daughter is telling me as well the names of the places she has gone! I think she has gotten a great education here 🤣🤣

Ahhh, the ubiquitous scotch roll. how I miss ye.
As I’ve been binging I’ve noticed you said you’ll tell the story of Burke and hare I already know the story but would love to hear it from you. If you

Is there no a Greggs takeaway near Hunter’s Square?
One of my questions is what are the rules for having dinner at a pub with kids? I have older kids and they enjoy pub food. Can you take your kids in the evenings or is their time frame that they allow kids in?
Every time I visit Edinburgh snacks cafe for breakfast value for money I get the same one as you
Made the right choice by going to Snax. An Edinburgh institution :)
Hell yeah!
I want to be there.
Preserves-jam
Prevese is jam
What is the difference to a full english breakfast and a scottish breakfast? Looks the same to me with the beans, black pudding, sausages, egg, tomatoes....
Haggis and potatoe scones.
@@ClanBroonford Oh should try potatoe scones :) I tried haggis at the haggis box. Awesome
Has anyone had the breakfast at the 3 sisters pub?
Och for any Scotsman all ye need is a bowl of porridge none of this fancy American stuff.Good enough for Wullie Wallace at Stirling Battle laddie!
Och tony why is there no a McDonald’s in downtown Edinburgh?
There is.
There is two actually.
😱 OHH NOOOO!!!! The American scourge of breakfast! (I’m American, and I refuse to eat at a McDonald’s.) I prefer to eat at a locally owned cafe or restaurant, that serves locally sourced ingredients in its menu items. Better all around that way.
There's one right across Prince's street from Waverley Station. We stayed right there.
@@susangrande8142 I will say, it was at least interesting seeing the difference in breakfast menu between the US and UK
Probably already been mentioned but "preserves" are basically jams and stuff....
If you go to Italy though and try and Italianise it when at breakfast....don't because "preservativi" are condoms!!!!
😂
Little disappointed you can mention Greggs
No one can see the price s. Is tea included
If you're in a B&B that doesn't do breakfast then surely that's just a B?
Very true. 😂
@@ClanBroonford Excellent video though and thank you for highlighting gf options.
Not impressed with the Ivy!
