Randy, thank you for this and for everything that you do for us! I hope that you are celebrating your milestone of 100K subscribers. Congratulations! It is well earned and deserved and you did it quickly (compared to most). You have my support til' the end and I look very forward to the future of your channel.
I’ve been doing this since this video. I started putting it on my jigs and craws. If they bite it they will not let go of your bait. I actually modified my own concoction but works great. Thanks.
I take a different route with mine. I'll tie a piece of red yarn on the eye of the treble then cut the tags flush with the bottom of the hook as not to tangle. I like a feathered treble on the back, the yarn and feathers will hold scent to. I just give it a squirt from the bottom and let it rip. Yours should last longer, but I make a mess as it is.
I'm 70yo, the thing I learned about 55 years ago was before I released fish I would rub my lure on the fish and get the lure slimy. You know how long the slime stays on your hands when you wash them is about how long the slime stays on your lure.
I've always loved putting scent on my Poppers. That's why I preferred the feather treble. But this opens up a really good way to scent some other slow moving top waters and swim baits. Thanks Randy!! Happy Easter.
Hi Randy, I love your low tech videos ! Thank you ! I also agree with you. It gives you confidence ! Probably the most important thing in bass fishing. Confidence if you don’t have that, we’ll it’s hard to be a good angler !
Honestly I think the peanut butter is genius because it’s a carrier for the scent. Garlic, salt, maybe even some type of fishy scent like wore Chester sauce.
I was on the fence about scent until I tried Barkley's power bait trout nuggets for trout, and it beat everything else I tried. Thanks for the tip because I was wondering how to use scent on hard baits.
The Salt Strong guys have a RUclips channel, and they sell baits and have a club with help for saltwater fishin'. They say that some fish's sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than a dog's. So it makes sense to put scents on baits. I don't understand why garlic is better than natural bait scents, but I've seen garlic Power Bait catch trout in freshwater. Maybe soft plastics with a little sponge built in for scents would be a good idea.
Hey, 30 years ago I went salmon fishing in the Columbia River with a guide named Mel. Fishing with herring. One of the baits he shot a bunch of WD-40 into the herring. No matter which side of the boat, the WD bait got way more hits. All 3 fish that day landed were WD baits. So, maybe Jiff ????
Dude! My grandpa used to shoot all of his plug cut herring with WD-40, and he'd ALWAYS be hooking up Chinook.. I remember I asked him why, and he said that it masked the human smell from the Herring.
Well I wrote a college paper on largemouth bass and my research told me that fish can smell underwater, however, the smell needs to be soluble in water, and I'm sorry but the "oils" in peanut butter are not water soluble. Think of like blood in the water how is diffuses and spreads in the water until you cant see it, oil clumps together and is hydrophobic so it repells water. This is why oil floats and doesn't mix with water. The paper I wrote was an entire semester long research paper. Here is one source I found: "One thing scientists do know is that bass and other fish species can only interpret scents that are water soluble. Fish “smell” by interpreting chemical signatures that are dissolved in the water. Scents that are heavy in oil may smell great to you, but they won't dissolve and thus the fish won't get a good whiff." By all means do whatever you feel works, but I dont buy any fish scents that are oil based nor will I be slathering peanut butter on my fishing gear. I mean, it makes sense right? When you think about a shark smelling a drop of blood in an Olympic sized pool, they can do that because it is water soluble, not because the blood is floating on top of the water. There might be stuff in the peanut butter that is able dissolve out, but the oil I am 100% certain isn't "helping." I argue by using it, you are simply giving yourself more confidence which leads to a couple more bites. A scent that dissolves in water and is designed for bass would be much more effective. And I would stay away from any oil based products. I guess the garlic powder might help... but the peanut butter is only making it stick. It's certainly a confidence thing. You are smelling it and saying it smells like peanut butter and garlic but that isn't really what the fish is smelling imo
@@daltonwade7908 Yes, most of the scent they give off for YOU to smell is from the oil. A bass is not hunting bait fish based on their oily fish coatings. They have lots of other senses they use which is why you can throw plastic at them and still catch them. Even Randy says that it MAY make a marginal difference... it isn't going to take you from not catching anything to crushing them. "If you catch 20 bass you might catch 22 or 23." If you run a chi test on this with a big enough sample sizes and enough times, I would highly doubt that the P value is around or anywhere even close to .05 or 5%. Which is the acceptable value in the scientific community... and still doesn't "prove" anything. It can only support or reject the null hypothesis. There is a very specific way this shit works in the scientific community and if ur going to play scientist then you have to play by the rules. I'm sorry, but you dont get to just make shit up as you go. What YOU smell and what a bass smells from any sort of bait fish is NOT what you think it is. A fish's waste is water soluble... it could be a chemical signature in the waste that comes off a fish. You may not be completely wrong, but ur definitely not right.
That's the first diy attractant I ever made. I like it because it doesn't smell like a sardine's ass like some other popular sauces. You can totally put it on some chicken or the fish you just caught and throw it on the grill and it's fantastic too
I think your videos are awesome. You are Old School and I like that. 👍 I fish the Texas Team Trail and other Semi Pro and Professional Tournaments. Do you have any Stickers or Boat Carpet Stickers laying around? I'm a Survival of Stage 4 Cancer. When Diagnosed, I had 3 weeks Max to Live. I struggled for over nine years. Been on my feet for nine years now. Every Tournament I fish, I'm lucky if I can manage three hours. God has Grant me another Miracle 🙏. At least three hours of fishing is better than being deceased. Keep up the excellent educational fishing 🎣 videos 📹 👍 God Bless too you and your family 👪 Timothy HAPPY EASTER 🐣
I am now doing this with all my soft plastics havent teied it on a jerk bait yet but all of my blood on it may helave helped me catch fish 🤣🤣 you make avoiding those hooks look easy 🤣🤣
I haven't used peanutbutter and garlic powder since I was a little kid in Texas in the late 70s-early 80s. Forgot all about it, after living on maui for for a couple decades where there's no freshwater fishing, and I did more spearfishing than pole fishing. Thanks a million for reminding me. Cheers, bud!
Scent works! Or why else would crappie and bluegills LOVE Crappie Nibbles power bait attractant? They act like it's Crack! Works on the pickiest fish. try an experiment of anise oil on the bait.
Salt and garlic mix works great. Grab ur jigs put it in a bag throw some sea salt and garlic powder shake it up and away u go. Works absolutely amazing
This is easily one of the best tips I've seen in fishing. Just opened my mind to a world of possibilities.
not all of the possibilities are as pleasant. whatever you do, don't focus on the color
If you get Pizza grab some Garlic dipping sauce and use them. Leave them in the sun you can use them like clear dip it, on swim tails and worms
I actually really dig this idea. Peanut butter takes a while to wash off so it's really a great carrier.

Thx James!
RUclips will not let me like the video. Great advice. Thanks for sharing
Soak em in minced garlic and then you have snacks while fishing.
Should I use Skippy peanut butter if Im skippin' Docks. Never heard of this before . Cool Tip...Thanks Randy !!
LOL, was trying to come up with something witty but that's primo!
Or use the all natural and go fishing in your birthday suit
Use Chunky Style for the chunkier bass.
I’ve been doing this since this video. I started putting it on my jigs and craws. If they bite it they will not let go of your bait. I actually modified my own concoction but works great. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the secret sauce! Will be hitting Lake Champlain soon and will be trying it out for sure...
Thank you I haven't tried it yet but this looks way better than artificial scent
I think this will work for sure!! I will do this after watching the video!! Thanks Randy.
Hi Randy, I love your low tech videos ! Thank you ! I also agree with you. It gives you confidence ! Probably the most important thing in bass fishing. Confidence if you don’t have that, we’ll it’s hard to be a good angler !
another 5⭐tip from RB.....thx Randy
Thanks for sharing Randy! I'll give it a go.
Honestly I think the peanut butter is genius because it’s a carrier for the scent. Garlic, salt, maybe even some type of fishy scent like wore Chester sauce.
I can't remember the brand Velvick used at Clear Lake when he was "buttering the toast" but this concoction looks good.
Congrats on 100k you deserve it Randy!
I bet using this recipe plus bunker oil would be great for saltwater fishing. I bet striper & red drum would go for it!
It does look more natural , I like it holds the scent
I was on the fence about scent until I tried Barkley's power bait trout nuggets for trout, and it beat everything else I tried. Thanks for the tip because I was wondering how to use scent on hard baits.
Garlicsalt like you put on your bread is the best i found. Garlic an salt best of both worlds. I'd bite it! 😅
The Salt Strong guys have a RUclips channel, and they sell baits and have a club with help for saltwater fishin'. They say that some fish's sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than a dog's. "You'll really like the way it feels on there" 😂😂😂😂😅💀🤣
Not sure what to think, but I'm going to give it a try. Think the water temperature maters to how it works?
Before I waste our peanut butter or make Skippy rich, are ya messing with us ?
April’s Fools day was 8 days ago …
I was just thinking what if Randy just outta the blue put this together to see how many idiots will do it...hahaha jk Randy
As soon as he poured the garlic powder and the dust went all in the air I had to laugh!
I did this years ago. It really does help catch fish.
And you can play great pranks on your wife and kids!!! 🤣🤣👍
Whatever gives you confidence…….In most. Situations the Bass are responding to the “ Acton “ of swim, and glide style baits. Rob
Smelly Jelly, crawfish anise scent, or garlic scent bass feast... They make a bunch of different scents. All I use...

melt petroleum jelly, add Garlic Salt
I had to make sure today wasn’t April 1st when I saw the title 😅
I did the same! When I saw the date I was like, oh crap this is legit! Haha
I have a bottle of Bait Fuel. Its very concentrated and wondering if putting a little bit of it, on like Jerkbaits and etc, may also work?
i have to say i never saw this tip coming thanks randy
I bet if you smeared it in the split rings at your hook attachment and you're line tie point. It might hold on the bait a little bit better
add a little red cool-aid to it and they really go nuts for it
I would think anchovy paste rubbed on the same way would probably work.
Would plain peanut oil with the garlic powder work ?
Randy,
Try Procure Super Gel Trophy Bass. You'll have plenty more peanut butter for sandwiches. They make garlic scents too.
John McHatton
I think I'll try this by just dipping the soft plastic into the oil (treated with the garlic)
Just buy some spike it. Way better and easier.
These bass must be Italian because they love garlic in Florida too!
That's Amore' !
Why could you not use this on soft plastics, I'm going to give that a try on my wacky rig. THANKS for sharing!!!!
Will this work on other types of fish as well
Its the thickness of the peanut butter that helps the garlic adhere to the bait?
Did he put peanut butter on a mag draft??? 😂
I guess if it doesn't work you have an option if you get hungry while fishing. I think I'll give it a try.
Cool idea
Will this work with walleye and pike?
I came across some experiment on scent and it makes a difference but oil isn’t water soluble so the fish cannot smell oil based scents.
But it would hold a bit of the scents
My ex-wife was a great fish attractant. Unfortunately, she also attracted feral cats, raccoons, coyotes, roaches, flies and meth heads.
😅
omg thats the funnist shit i ever heard,im crying
What happens when I go to make my PBJ though? Is the extra fish really worth that?
Inshore fish love garlic.

Damn guy did you go to Bass University 😂
Do you catch more catfish when you rub peanut butter on your lures?
April fools was last week. 😂
I’ll pass on this one. My son is deathly allergic to peanuts, and he uses my stuff. Never gunna happen.
Skippy... the newest sponsor..
Works on getting my dogs attention every time! Lol

Could This Work For Kropy Fishing❗️❓❗️

Glad ya pulled thru bud
Thx man! I’ll see what I can do
I will try it
Happy Easter Randy!
And have a peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while you’re at it.
Good idea but I think I would put gloves on because I can’t stand it on my hands 😊
Just asking... what happened to bait fuel ⛽️ 🤔
I am now doing this with all my soft plastics havent teied it on a jerk bait yet but all of my blood on it may helave helped me catch fish 🤣🤣 you make avoiding those hooks look easy 🤣🤣
It’s April 9th randy, your a few days late
It is not the scent, but the visual is like a wet poop. Thats the favorite of fish 😂.
I use peanut butter, garlic powder, onion powder, bread, flour, and liquid smoke
Is this a late April fool's video ?
What if the fish have high blood pressure?
Have you ever used JJ's magic? If so, what do you think of it?
super cool thanks 😊
Has anyone tried vanilla extract ?
Will that work for smaller panfish
always good to have extra methods to attact fish..
Peanut butter jelly time where you at.
What a minute is this April fools.?
No he would of posted that day of or day after
Oil doesn’t pass through the nose of the bass. Baitfuel is better
Bait Fuel is snake oil.....that's why you don't hear anything about it anymore.
makes a quick sandwich spread too
I tried but not working
Choosy Bass choose Jiff .
Lmao
20-25 fish a day?!
What am I doing wrong 😂
you ever add juice from minced garlic?
Just like KFC, finger licking good.
April fools was last week tho
Scent works! Or why else would crappie and bluegills LOVE Crappie Nibbles power bait attractant? They act like it's Crack! Works on the pickiest fish. try an experiment of anise oil on the bait.
I prefer Nutella actually.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I rub raw garlic on my plastics. Gonna try this!
I use chunky over smooth my fish like the crunch😂 . Couldn’t you use lard and garlic powder instead?
The peanut butter gives it a more natural look??! Jesus dude. Just stop.
WD 40 sprayed on salmon spoons is an oldie but goodie on the Great Lakes
