If Only I Got Paid For This - How to Master Barrel Kicking

- The only things you need to to know to get one of the hardest achievements in Deep Rock Galactic. 3000 points in 100 barrels.
1) Scoring a barrel every back and forth movement gives a streak bonus up to maximum 4x of the base barrel value, this is how you will get most of your points.
2) The hoop only has 3x speeds, use left to right movement of hoop to figure out what speed it's going, and then just memorise at what position the hoop needs to be in to sink the shot for that speed.
+ some more tips inside the video with visual aids.
Slow speed should have a larger window then medium speed, but because the spot is so easy to memorize (exactly when it hits the right most side) I made it visually smaller.

Pro tip: throwing an empty mug into the hoop awards 1 point at no cost of a barrel. Really good to cheese the achievement if you have enough patience
also good for getting really close to 3K but you're at 99

The "ball" that's used for soccer on the space rig counts as 3 points, but that's a bit trickier.

Easily the worst part about this achievement is the little bounce the barrel does after landing. So many times that little bounce fucks me over as im going for a kick and it just randomly goes to the highest speed.
fr and then you gotta wait for the timing on the loop and chance fucking up your bonus or just yeet it after that little fucking!!!! bounce

One thing to note, though the impact is minor:
The pattern of the barrelspawn is 4 yellow, 1 red

@@thecorndealer4122 Don't kick barrels in the space rig for 10 consecutive missions I believe. Pretty easy to get if you just avoid the barrels and immediately go and do missions.
Remember always hated those ultra-fast hoops that are pretty much guaranteed to reset your streak.
Rather than face straight on, aim slightly to the left, I tend to aim for the center white tile thing at the left corner, this gives you slightly more time
I attempted this achievement and succeeded within 2 hours.
It took a surprising amount of strategy.
You have to pay attention that you don't waste barrels, when the barrel dispenser is slower than the hoop.
Also, if you lost your barrel streak just take a moment and wait for the hoop to slow down and then start your streak anew. You can keep it up for longer this way as it reduces likelyhood of missing easy barrels, especially red ones.
You need a bit of rng for the hoop to not screw your barrel streaks too often. Otherwise it is fairly possible to achieve it legitemately, when you consistently land barrels, even with faster hoop movement speeds.
If you have faith in your abilities try kicking at an angle to land your barrels earlier, which gives you your next barrel earlier therefore minimizing the amount of influence hoop speed rng has on your streak or land fast hoop shots in general.

Disgustingly luck-based. Constantly shafted by RNG for hours and then easily smashed it with less than 90 barrels for the completion. Took me around an hour and a half of attempts. The video didn't help me with completing it but it did solidify my understanding that I wasn't missing some random obvious easy win or cheese strat. (I reckon throwing 3000 mugs would've taken me longer than that)
I remember when I was doing some barrel kicking while waiting for a friend to come back from afk. It was sooo close but I managed to land the 100th barrel and ended up with a score of 3005. However it was not easy at all like you stated at the beginning of the video. you need a lot of patience to hit a lucky streak of slow and medium ring speeds to get it.
I believe a valuable modification to this strategy would be to angle your barrel kicks towards the left hand side.
You would need to adjust the timings, but it would give the barrel a bit more time to stop bouncing before kicking it.
I have yet to check if this would be enough of a change to make a difference in the timings, but it sounds like sonething worth looking into when I go for the achievement myself. Thanks for the guide!
To me it felt like the closest to the left the barrel entered the hoop the longer it took to respawn, or maybe I was just kicking it later
Thank you so much. Was trying for this for about an hour or two, almost gave up but watched this video. Main things that helped me were seeing that you were standing further from the barrel (makes seeing its bounce and the target easier) and how for the fastest speed, you dont actually have to shoot it as early as I was. Also a tip I found, kicking the barrel as its dropping down is what makes it get a high arc, so if the hoop changes to fast and you dont have time to wait for the barrel all the way, can chance kicking it early in its fall to hope the timing lines up. After watching this video, I got it on the second try with 20 barrels to spare

I learned several things with this & found it helpful. It seems after watching -- that there seems to be some kind of time when not taking a shot will end the streak. Knowing about the speed change location *key info* & so much more makes sense.

After watching this, I think the key I was missing was realizing the speed change when it hits the piston. Still got some muscle memory to learn here, but this is very helpful!

The process of me getting this achievement was made ten times more miserable because I was having times where the hoop would randomly stop, stutter, speed up to insane levels, go out of bounds, or just straight up teleport. Probably because I don't have a great PC for gaming. Your guide still really helped me visualize and get much more consistent, but good God I never want to do this again

something you can do when there's a fast hoop that you're probably not gonna get, is to shoot the barrel further to the left so it still makes it in, helped me a ton hitting those stupid fast ones

This might be the most infuriating achievement ever. It is very luck based, hoping not to get any fasts and that little bounce fucks you over making the barrel fly high or not even reach the hoop. I don't have the patience for it.

Today I started playing deep rock galactic, I saw the achievement and your video, I put some stickers on the computer screen where you have to click depending on the speed. I got it after a few tries. my third achievement

I've actually checked the game files, and there are really four speeds. Slow, Medium, and Fast as you said, but there's a secret fourth labeled "Fuck You" deep in the files.
Drink too much smart stout and management will make you disappear like Karl...

Once you realize you need to kick when the hoop is going to the right side, this achievement becomes easy. I've been afraid to try for a while thinking it will take a long time to perfect the hoop game but I actually got it the first time I tried for real, even though I swear I missed like 15 barrel shots
What I hate the most about this achievement is that the speed is random. I can't get any long soft streaks, it's always fast or very fast streaks.
It's almost a luck based achievement, I hate it so much.

my advice is -- look at the white strips on top of the red crossbar, those will help you time the kicks right tremendously. for fast ring, kick the barrel while the right edge of the ring is between 2nd and 3rd strips. for mid-speed ring, kick when the ring's edge is below the middle of that last strip.
also there is definitely some RNG and other bs. some guy said "management would troll me by purposely making the hoop go completely goofy and doing things like lagging (in a solo lobby)", may sound like excuse, but same thing happened to me, the ring would just teleport the hell out sometimes.
I picked up on the strategies pretty quickly and got the achievement without much effort. I thought the low percentage was from people not caring, rather than needing a guide.
I hate that the idiot damn barrel needs to jump twice making the timing so horrible when it suddenly becomes fast
I find it really funny that I get this video AFTER I got the achievement, just 3 days ago. Took me around 2 hours in 2 different days, and I honestly malded quite a bit, because while I did understand all the things you explained in this video and was even setting milestones throughout the kicking (for example, at 33 kicks be around 1000 points, at 50 kicks 1500 points, to waste less time if I didn't get good streaks at the beginning) management would troll me by purposely making the hoop go completely goofy and doing things like lagging (in a solo lobby) and plain out disappearing and reappearing from the opposite side. Eventually, the game stopped screwing me and gave a good streak of manageable speed hoops. Also I learned to be more patient and just let myself lose the streak rather than missing and losing the streak.

This was one of the earliest achievements I got.
This is not a brag, it took me at least like 10 resets.
I did this with a friend, more or less. He did that thing while I stuffed the pot full of all barrels. I threw a mug in at the end for the 3k thing

i don't believe that the hoop only changes speed on collision with the piston on the left side, or at least not anymore, i remember getting screwed over by the speed change a lot even though i was kicking the barrel when the hoop was about to bounce on the right side
also the streak seems to also be lost if you wait too long, and that's where another problem comes in - the strange behavior of the barrel when kicked while it's bouncing is sometimes unavoidable when the hoop is going fast so you either wait and lose your multiplier, or miss
despite this, it didn't actually take me that long to do this achievement, it's not that hard if you really try
Due to the fact that this achievement sucks, I did it and then invited some of my frienss to kick one barrel in each. That way they were spared the agony.
i really smashed everything in my room because of this barrel game and i still didnt got the achivement (the thing is that i am actually a really calm person)

Im having the hardest time maintaining a streak when it goes fast mode.
Im on Ps4, my highest score is 2790. It feels like the Barrels are still dropping/havent came to rest.
When I have to kick, while the hoop is going its fast speed.
Then the Barrel just swerves around the hoop and falls off the side.
Hopefully some sleep will bring me better luck tomorrow.

You'll get it done! Sometimes you can just get bad luck with the fastest speed coming up more frequently then normal, keep at it!

This was honestly one of the easier achievements for me. I got it on my second attempt I think.
The hardest achievement for me is Car Pool, by far. I can never get a full group on to try it, and if I do, we cant find Silicate Harvesters, or its rough terrain where we get pushed off it constantly. Go figure, the achievements that require having friends are the hard ones for me lol
Also:
Sometimes barrels just dont go straight because reasons
If you're unlucky you will be fucked by logs row of mid-top speed rings, because fuckin barrels drop with snail speed
You shouldnt kick with top speed ring if there is no chance to got barrel in
one time my hoop kept going to the right and just disappeared. had to reset the space rig

I threw a mug upwards from the bottom of the pit (you have to time it and jump at end of throw animation) more than four thousand times, during 3 hours to get it (didn't push a single barrel).
That deserves its own tutorial video!

You can also throw beer mugs through the hoop for 1 point each if you get only a few away. You got this!
@@TaylorMB FUCK YEAH I DID IT !! In 82 barrels only, got in a nice rhythm at the begining got 30 in a row (1500 pts). I got 39 barrels in a row but the combo reseted between 30-31. Got a few misses afterwards but finally got it ! It was my 6th or 7th long try (>25 barrels). Got 2 tries at 2850 and 2950.

I can attest your guide is really good.
The only part I doubted was the "try to kick even at high speed, a miss isn't that bad". I got 2850 and 2950 by letting it go so I guess it is possible without but if you get in the "zone" a few good barrels at high speed give you a margin for error later.
3:30 so does the streak get canceled if you let too much time pass? Or is it ended by the hoop changing speeds?
Streak gets cancelled if the hoop moves from full left position to full left position without a barrel entering the hoop.

The ring is teleporting!!! I’m gonna lose it
Teleporting ring is a common bug unfortunately. Only thing I can recommend is making sure you are hosting and your session is set to private. Not a 100% fix but sometimes works.
Yeah so mine must be bugged because it randomly goes to a 4th speed and takes away my streak even if it goes in bug
