This and what I've seen in the comments will help me get started with RPR while I'm playing through the MSQ/Leveling. I will def look forward to the more in depth guide down the road though! Thank you, Desperius~
Gonna be critical, but 1:15 is an inaccuracy. Reapers do not pot in the opener, it is a loss. A 2 minute delay on the opening pot will add in another fully-fueled heat gauge into the 30 second window, and if its after a phase transition (both weapon EX and accessories EX), will fit THREE Communio. Reaper is oddly unique where its major burst rotation fits neatly within 7-9 seconds and can be flexibly drifted. A potion in the opener only makes sense if optimized fights are such that potting in the opener grants you an extra potion use, which is often not the case.
@@DesperiusFFXIV also harvest moon in the opener is not always optimal, because you are always delaying your next soul reaver stack, would be better to just use it for disangages in place of harpe, or during the double enshroud phase to prolong the first one, so you can use its delay to have a smoother second enshroud (even if death's design is also an option here). In the end it all comes down to the fight, if you know there is a period of time where you will be able to cast harvest moon during a disengage and then recast soul sow during a transition, this is the most optimal way to use it, instead if before the transition you always have uptime, and there will be no disengage, I guess is okay to either include it in the opener or in a double enshroud window.
@@CrissTRG easiest melee class, but not the easiest class in the game. Look at dancer and summoner. I'd say reaper is as easy as red mage, though you don't have to care about rezzing prople
Good video! This is so cool to see because this is very close to my opener! I usually delay the second soul slice after harvest moon, but this seems more effective!
IDK, coming from a tank job (paladin), something doesn't click with reaper. I keep forgetting to debuff enemies and don't do that well overall as a DPS. It doesn't seem to complicated, my hotbar is set up in a way that works for me and I know what the skills do and the order in which I should use them. For the debuff problem, I think it's because it doesn't have a lengthy cooldown, which is different from paladin. I debuff twice to get the full minute, but then I just forget to re-apply it until I finally notice it and debuff again, but not without losing quite a bit of damage. Hope this video helps me. Thanks for the guide, I'll give it a go at level 80.
Hey Desperius! Hope it's fine to give some feedback about the opener to you :) Please feel free to tell me if that is acceptable, i always appreciate your content so please know that this is not meant to downtalk your video or anything ♥ I think it's an solid opener to get a feeling for that class for some of the content at 90, however i really really don't recommend the potion usage when you follow this opener since you have to delay your Arcane circle for that, which costs you a lot of Dps during your opener. I see some resembelence there with the early Gluttony opener, which can be useful for certain fights, but in order to make that work you have to pre-use the potion right before Harpe. It's a really.. odd use and i don't like it imo, but you simply cannot use it anywhere else during this opener since you want to push out so many ogcd's during the Buffwindow. I would recommend replacing the second soulslice you use with the Harvest moon there. Also please, please don't use harvest moon as a fixed ability in your opener. I see many reaper's doing this at the moment, and it always results in an awkward delay during boss encounters. The best use so far for this ability is during downtime moments, where you have to disengage or don't have the opportunity to do your positional (Areole in Ex trial fight 2 for example) or keep it for addphases. Even if it may sound like an dps loss to not use during your potion window, most of the time you might can use it at the end anyway, and even if not the fact that you can dish out a 600 potency ability during a downtime (or on addphases) gives your overall dps more substain. Also don't shy away to use True north right before or during your gluttony window, it can make some awkward situations on certain bosses a bit more comfortable. It always works out perfectly fine for me for the normal raids and the 2nd ex trial so far. I personally love the early shroud opener because it feels more faster paced, and it makes your opener so much more beefy. You have to delay your gluttony window a bit, but the sheer amount of potency you get with it during that makes it more then worth using. I had to delay my 3rd Arcane circle a bit for the 2nd potion to keep it align, but thats a personal thing i liked to do to make it a bit more potent during that 2nd potionwindow aswell. The amazing thing about reaper is, that after your opener is done, you can delay your other abilities a bit without loosing too much dps. Since i delay my buffwindow a bit during that time, it's possible to me to get 3 shroud uses on that 2nd potion window which can be really amazing! As for opener with this class in general, i can't say for certain how things will change in savage. I would recommend adjusting the opener for each fight after you got comfortable with the class. :) Apologies for the wall of text, i wish you the best, take care and enjoy FF!
@@DesperiusFFXIV Glad i can be of help! :) Of course i think it's the best if you try it out on your own, since some of the things i mentioned are simply personal preference, but what i did in general was to just simply follow one of the two openers from the Balance and then adjust things to my liking, depending on the fight :) Thank again for the answer, wish you the best! 🥰
@@Derdaida what about the double enshroud every 2 minutes? I didnt see that in the video. Is that still a thing or not? I personally still go for the double enshroud every arcane circle.
@@TobinatorTx oh good question! Double enshroud is still the way to go for the most part, i even heard of people using a triple enshroud potion at around the 8 minute mark, but i haven't tried that out yet. I will give it a try tomorrow in our raid and can post the results of that then
One thing that I usually do if the fight permits it is to case soulsow again. For example with the extreme trail 1 when he cast his big aoe move after the orbs or extreme 2 when going into the crystals and adds phase (and even after that as well). Is it optimal? Well I would like to think so but I'm no super expert on the game but I would like to believe it is helpful just for that extra damage here and there
Soulsow is to be used during downtime and you cannot attack anything, otherwise if you're out of range of your target, just use Harpe. 2 casts of Harpe = 1 Harvest Moon. The difference being that with Harpe you do 2 of them in 5 seconds, while with casting Soulsow and then throwing Harvest Moon you used actually 3 GCDs, 5 seconds of charge time and another 2.5 for actually throwing Harvest Moon. So you actually end up loosing 300 potency if you go just by potency skill numbers.
Sorry if i might have missed it but what about pure aoe rotations ? playing atm i noticed they have allot of aoe skills and not sure witch ones are worth using or not
This is it chief. Not sure how long you’ve been laying out your rotation guides like this, but this is it. Each skill is properly paced so you don’t have the confusing rewinds while you’re talking about somewhere further into the rotation. OGCD’s are well placed. Love the priority list. Well done! Keep it up!
My opener is like this, Portal forward, shadow of death x2, arcane circel, 2x soul slice, gluttony, gibbet/galllows, plentiful harvest, enshroud(will have around 8 secs on arcane buff) I find it better to hold enshroud if arcane circle is coming off cd in like 15 or 20 secs (ofc assuming you are nto capped on both guages), so i can do 2x enshroud later on, sometimes 3x when i have 100 guage lol feels good af, and i find its better to save enshroud sometimes when burst is required like for orbs in ext 1 Harvest moon i save it when i have to mvoe away from boss or boss is going to disappear And every reaper must master this rotation when he needs to move away, port forward/backward, harvest moon, port back in again
SoD twice in a row is a wash. Sure it sets you up for the most time between then and the next SoD, but it also pushes your entire burst window back. You're also pushing enshroud nearly entirely out of your own AC buff by using both charges of Slice *and* Gluttony>Gibbet/Gallows
Harvest Moon after communio??? Pretty sure that's a DPS loss... Harvest Moon should only be used if you disengage the enemy or for some reason you're out of range.
You pick up the RPR job in Ul'dah near the aetherite plaza. For levelling, priority should be RPR job quests first, Inbetween RPR job quests run the level of dungeon which matches your current level. personally i would save that first gluttony until after you use the 50 shroud from plentiful. also harvest moon should be saved for downtime always. i agree with you though, saving enshrouds is the skip ceiling but it’s not necessary at all.
That legit makes 0 sense. You do not know how to play DPS in MMOs, you are trying to get that ability off CD immediately so you can use it again faster/more often over the fight. There is genuinely no reason to hold the first gluttony as you won't overcap anyway if you don't hold Enshroud for too long. Harvest moon can just be used when nothing else is avaliable except your main combo, as you said
