    From Greek traditional dress the pompom on the footwear was apparently used to conceal a blade that was placed on the toe of the shoe and this blade was obviously employed as a kicking weapon . The slapping down of the nail studded shoes on the march is also done for a reason, it is to make a signal in sound to the ancient Greeks that Greece is still free.

      @@midnightteapot5633 Is it possible that the back and forth foot movement is based on the blade in the toe of the shoe as if the Soldier is kicking?
