Been looking forward to this one and it delivered as expected! Thanks for sharing I'm gonna do a star wars scene eventually but want to practice some simpler stuff first! :)
Hey bro! Could you please make a separate complete video on how to become a VFX artist or make career in it. We know you've already made a video but it's outdated if you don't mind.
I didn't really do much with the materials! The model came with textures so I just tweaked the shaders a bit to get the right level of roughness on his helmet. Sorry I didn't show it!
@@AlfieVaughan Awesome, thanks. I'm trying my hand at a few things at the moment, but the rigs don't work, the cloth animation has random bits falling off it, and I did something that made blender say "Goodbye" xD I might just go back to animating Roblox characters xD
Awesome! Im planning on making a tokyo drift style chase animation, currently in the working of it. However since my pc cant handle rendering everything at once, i guess im going to have to split them up into layers and go the compositing route!
Nice! To be honest I'd recommend rendering in layers even if you could. It means if you have something you need to change you don't have to render absolutely everything again so it's much faster. And gives you more control in compositing
@@AlfieVaughan The only thing I'm worried about is that if I render the car separately do I have to set the buildings as shadow catchers or holdouts in order to get the right reflections and shadows. And also for the buildings layer would I have to set everything else as holdouts. I've never done a project this big, or that requires a lot of compositing, since I'm running a rtx 2060, so everything usually can be rendered in full.
Basically just think of it as front to back. So probably the car on top (unless there's anything in the foreground) and then for the render of the floor and buildings just set the car collection to indirect only. That will it'll cast shadows and everything on the layer but not be visible. Then you don't have to render a shadow pass separately
Thanks! I like it. I use it less for 3D although obviously for sculpting. I use it all the time in nuke for compositing and then switch between mouse and tablet when using blender
how did you make the head move? tried to rig the model and it went well, but i could not rig the head. I also see you have no armature in the head, so the question remains
Hi man! I have this Star Wars project coming up and i need someone to help me or teach me how to do animation and blender enviroments! And watching this video was absolutely amazing because you made a shot that i pictured to include in my project. Would you be interested in helping me?
Because I work as a professional compositor and we use nuke at work. It's the most common compositing software for feature films and TV. It's much better and more powerful than blender or davinci but you can get similar results in the others. I just know Nuke much better and can get the best results with it! :) I'm also sponsored by the company that makes Nuke 😜
LOTR are my favourite films of all time! But I don't have any projects in mind. The VFX in those films that immediately come to mind are crowd sims and environment stuff which isn't really my area of expertise. But if you have any ideas let me know!
@@AlfieVaughan I was thinking something along the lines of doing something with Gollum. If you're looking for a good Gollum model, you can find two versions of a model from _Shadow of Mordor_ on Deviantart.
Thank you for sharing (๑✧◡✧๑), i understand all what you said but i dont know how to make it, the hardest part is render all of the shots to image sequence and composite in nuke. Very clear tutorial. i have the concept shot in my head, i just need to watch and go throught many tutorials like this one until my skill get higher.

No problem! :)
This is epic
Thanks! :)
Great stuff Alfie
Thanks! 😁

Interesting idea! Yeah I'll have a think about it :)
We Appreciate your effort, keep it up!🤗
Just curious, did I miss the materials part, where you made it all look fabulous, or is my Vader supposed to look like a matte maniac?

I try 😂 thanks man 🙏

@@AlfieVaughan Okay thank you very much!
Really nice video! Thanks for sharing 👍
I’ve got a question: how is it using a graphic tablet for 3D projects?
Thanks! I like it. I use it less for 3D although obviously for sculpting. I use it all the time in nuke for compositing and then switch between mouse and tablet when using blender
Damn🥺
how did you make vader move with the rig? everytime I try to pair it it says the bone weighting issue
I seem to remember having the same issue. It's usually due to intersecting vertices. I think I did merge by distance or something to remove the issues
DAMNNN COOLLL!!!
Thanks!
nice video 😂
Thanks!
So that's how you made the details ._. how did you make the wires were they just curves?
Yeah just a few curves :)
How do you fix the neck part of the cape? My hole cape always get blowen away...
You have to make a vertex group for the top bit where it's attached and set it in the cloth settings under the pinning menu
@@AlfieVaughan Thanks for your quick answer!
What application do you use?
This is done with blender and nuke :)
My cape flies away with wind please help. I tried merging it with the chest but now the chest flies away woth the wind too, i cant get the cape efefct
You need to add the vertices that should stay attached to a vertex group and make that group the pinning group in the cloth settings
@@AlfieVaughan Thank you so much, you just earned a subscriber!
IMPRESSIVE Work!!!
Brilliant work would you like to make a modeling tutorial in upcoming days in blender for complete understanding with new topic.
Thanks! I'm not that good at modelling to be honest. I'm not sure if have much knowledge to share on the subject 😅
how did you make the head move? tried to rig the model and it went well, but i could not rig the head. I also see you have no armature in the head, so the question remains
I just parented the entire helmet to the neck bone instead of using automatic weights

@AlfieVaughan Of course, see u there!
I still don't get why use Nuke if you can compose in Blender or in DaVinci. In which way is it better or faster?

Hi, Ive rendered the camera but how do I render just the planet? I cant seem to find how
When im in the Display render tab the planet doesnt show but when Im in material mode its there but just as a white object
You have to put them in different view layers and turn them off in the other ones if you want them on their own
@@AlfieVaughan Ahh ok, cheers! Im new to all this blender stuff. is there any way of speeding up the final EXR render?
You can optimise it a bit by tweaking samples and light bounces etc but not massively. If there was it would be the default 😂
@@AlfieVaughan 😂 thanks a lot I’ll find a render farm so I can chill while it’s doing it’s thing!
Ey if you ever need a fully rigged AT-ST, I got the blender file sitting on my computer
Nice one, thank you
Out of curiosity, planning on doing any _Lord of the Rings_ type projects in the future?

7:05 what is the name of this program?(I don't know English very well, so if the author said I couldn't hear)
It's called Nuke. it's the industry standard for compositing
I feel like I watched a video in a different, audio, I really should have learned blender
😂
12 min without taking a breath...I looked it up, I'm on normal speed...are you?
If I talked at normal speed all my videos would be the same length as feature films 😅
