The 1970 song "My Baby's Gone Away" by the Chymes - a US soul group from Chicago, featuring the harmonies of the three brothers Victor, David and James Martin, also known as the Star-Tels. The Chymes were supported on this track by the Soul Crusaders, the house band of the Chicago label Down to Earth Records (sub-label of Lamarr) run by Burgess Gardner. This song is concerned with the plight of the soldier returning home from Vietnam to discover that his girl has left him:
"I'm out the army now
Back from Vietnam
Went to my old neighbourhood to find someone I know
Walked down the street to my baby's door
Her mother tells me she don't live here anymore
My baby's gone away...
I love my baby so, she should have never let me go...
I remember reading all her letters
How she used to say,
That she'd wait forever come what may"
Thank you to all our military. Sweet Jam!
For you Vietnam and Vietnam era vets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are forgotten it sems
OMG!!!!! My Mother told me about this song 30 years ago. She couldn't remember who sang it. So she would sing it around the house and I remembered the lyrics. It popped in my head and I just decided to google the lyics on a whim and HERE IT IS!!! This is the very 1st time I've heard the ACTUAL SONG!!!!!!❤❤❤
Glad that you found it!
Hope you enjoyed it and the memories of your mom . Blessings
Tumultuous late 60s, 2023 and things are still a bit insane.. Power To The People 🔱🇵🇷🔱
Another Masterpiece for future generations to enjoy! Thank you Chymes!
The late Chicago DJ, Richard Pegue was fond of saying that the Chymes use to rehearse in a phone booth on 75th Cottage Grove in Chicago. Very nice song.
The first time I heard this was on Richard Pegue's Saturday night Dusties show, on WGCI/WVON. I loved his back stories on the artists and dry humor. Nowadays his nephew PJ Wills does a show on Friday Nights midnight-5am on WBGX 1570 in Chicago keeping Mr. Pegue's legacy alive all the way down to using "Stay A While With Me" by Sharon Ridley as his opening theme.... RIP Burgess Gardner, producer, arranger, musician and Co owner of the Lamarr Records group (Lamarr, More Soul, Down To Earth)

Awesome song
I could here Kanye sampling the music and Lyrical hook. Such a good song. Put it back on the mainstream radar!😊
Only a true Chicagoan producer can pull it off like Kanye, No ID or a member of The Molemen.
