Whenever I cop an obscure private 45, I always know to cross reference against Soulhawk. If he’s got it posted, it ain’t as unknown as I’d hoped...then again, the man’s collection of 60s and 70s soul/funk 7s is the encyclopedia britanica for the music genre. I posted records on here for roughly 4 yrs before RUclips banned my account due to copyright erasing 1000s of posted tracks recorded and encrypted by hand ensuring the hundreds of hours I put in laboring would be flushed down the drain. It’s highly impressive the man has been posting long before my 4 yr tenure which ended 7 yrs ago and is still going strong. Thank you so much for what I personally understand is a labor of love and selfless act spreading knowledge of sound to the masses!
We, African Americans have created so many beautiful soul sounds! Our enemy has always envied us! We need to control our own music! In fact we need to control everything we produce! Point blank, Period!
More often than not, your music is NOT "stolen" (per se) from right under your noses... It's stolen when it is ABANDONED and/or when you're looking the other way. Example: The Industry will tell you, "You, Blacks, need to do rap. Stick to that. You guys are great at that." And the minute you abandon rhythmical music and soulful singing, all the "others" come right in and pick up and remold what you all left behind. #1) QUIT abandoning your music, and #2) You're worth a few trillion... Create your own studios, music companies, rosters of artists, regional sounds, etc, like you used to. But NO... You'd rather do what the Industry tells you all to do (no, not YOU personally), and then before you know it, others, namely Whites, are gaining recognition and winning Major Music Awards playing and singing "YOUR" music. You can't have it both ways.
Fantastic post, Soulhawk! According to discogs.com, the Chappells originally formed in 1964 in East Baltimore, USA. The Chappells were one of a myriad of groups who came together briefly, released two 45’s, got ripped off by some one they thought was looking out for them and subsequently walked away from music finally shutting up shop in 1972. Members: Alice L. Wilhoit, Elaine Jenkins, Evelyn Robinson, Lester Harris, Ronald Hammond, and Sharon Burton. This excellent record came out in 1969!
1969 ? Maybe that's a clue as to why it struggled: This record has '65 - '67 all over it. Sly, and Gamble/ Huff had changed a chunk of the R&B game by '69.
That could be if the young people and the people who think young would switch from rap, hip-hop, the modern R&B music, and the acid rock to choose this original and fine music.
i was listing to smokey robinson and other rnb classics on the beach one night and found this song by mistake. it was a good mistake. i miss the beach now
Were The Chappells a local Chicago group? It sounds like a Chicago recording, but the label doesn't look like a Chicago label design or font. The name Ray Patterson rings a bell. I used to live on Chappell Ave. near 89th, in South Chicago in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I wonder if The Chappells were named after the street?
@@robbk1 + Hi Robb - if you still live in Chicago and your library card is active, head over to HWLC and check out Robert Pruter's book "Chicago Soul", it will definitely take you back brotherman!
So apparent how this era and style of music influenced early reggae. Give it some “chanka...chanka” guitar chords on the upbeat and replace the snare on the 2 and 4 with a kick drum and it could fit in nicely with early reggae tunes.
The oldies songs are the best and the blest. These songs make me meditate about the best ladies I know, and that music eases the living demons out of me, whether I feel bad or sad. This soft, relaxing music will stay with me, even if I do become 70 years old in April.
Thank you very much for the comment! I'd just like to let you know that you were a member of a superb group which should have gone massive. At least you've left this wonderful double-sider behind for everyone to enjoy. Excellent!
when you're here you want to be there-when you're there all you can think of is being here- It'll work itself out- sometimes it takes 40 years but it did work itself out
Never heard this before and I'm a oldies buff!! Oldies music is 1 of the main genres that touches not only my heart, but my soul!! And I'm an indie hip-hop artist. Way ahead of my time, but the music pulls you in. Oldies is a testament to a very sad time to live in, as well as a happy simple and a beautiful time to be in love 💖
Im looking for an oldie song, and I only know how it starts or some of the words anyway, here it goes, "im giving you my heart doo doo doo doo wah, here it is please take it, handle it with care, please dont breaaaak it" I know its probably not a lot to go on but its all I got, please if anyone knows who sings it please let me know, its been bothering me for 4yrs now, need a piece of mind ya dig.. Godspeed to all...
My Aunt Alice is a member of this group!! Proud niece here!
Tell her she made a classic right here
Thank You to your Aunt for giving us good music.
Heavenly jewel of a masterpiece.
That’s awesome! What role did she play?

I just think people that post all these oldies are a godsend
I love chopping soul samples and this might be my favorite channel of all time
EGstill85 did you post the songs you downloaded anywhere online? i’d like to download them for my personal collection
If only these labels knew we are adding these songs to spotify playlists that will give them royalties seconds in to listening to finding them.

Man old school music is so healing. The last few weeks since my divorce this soul music has made me feel comfort in the stormy seas of middle age.

Foreal that's why the frequency of our music is so low now because we lost control of our art and forgot God.
that bass could make anyone act kind of strange

Yes, these oldies, like Motown, Atlantic, Stax and Brunswick become solid gold.
