As a fellow ADHD-er, the pursuit of logical systems is a lifelong goal. I've been building systems since I was a kid just trying to get my homework turned in, on time, complete and without dog slobber. I also suffer from out-of-sight-out-of-mind and can easily succumb to the pilot system (pile it here, pile it there). I've tried using binders with photo insert pages, but the seed packets slide out everywhere, and I have way too many seeds for that. Hubby bought me a seed vault for Christmas. I like the idea of organizing by planting date, but also love alphabetical or category. Maybe I'll color code! Well, that just booked up my afternoon. Love your videos, glad to see you posting again. Be gentle with yourself.
I also love the photo box organizers. I do mine a little different. I have 4 boxes, one for seeds that I sow in late winter, then spring sown in greenhouse, then direct sown in garden, and my last box for things I sow in summer or fall. Then I really don't have to lug but one seed tote to pull seeds from at any one time. It's a real struggle. I feel ya.
Awesome idea !!!! This will help tremendously. Nicely done. Good to know that I wasn’t the only one watching gardening videos during Christmas week. Great video 😊
We are starting seeds for the froat tolerant spring garden soon!! I can't tell if I love the oranizing by seed starting style or not! The concept makes sense but I could see myself getting lost looking for a specific thing trying to remember how I classified it 😂
What a great idea. I had been pretty much by type, then alphabetical and used the sowing/transplant chart from Portland nursery and ALWAYS has the pile of seeds that sat there just like yours did. It might help me to do this too. My ocd need for alphabetizing things may need to be sacrificed. Thx for sharing this Anna ❤
Glad to be seeing your vlogs again! I like Regenterative Gardening's videos too - she had a really great seed saving video not too long ago. I'll have to check out her organizing video soon, thanks! Can't wait to start planting again here!! 😊
I am inspired to finally get my growing seed collection under control! You have a great relaxed way of taking us along with you. Thank you for your very helpful video.
I keep it simple for me. I sort by "expiration" year and then they go in alphabetical order. I keep them in a nice fabric photo storage box and it lives in my sewing room.
Anna I love your channel . This year I am praying God will send ya'll a lawn mower . That will help you so much. I am praying for this for you. you work so hard .
I have seeds everywhere in totes, photo boxes, mailing envelopes they were received in and the 2 almost empty ones I got last year when they were on sale for $14. I had decided to sort them into times to plant, like spring/fall and summer but have yet to do that. This video is right on time since I just set up my grown room with new grow lights on my new wire shelving unit so I don't have to move the tropical plants from it to start seeds like I did last year. Whew! Thanks, Anna!
I was taking my am coffee and decided how to begin sorting my SAME seed storage mess. THANK YOU so much. I will begin with confidence but you sure were faster than I think I could do it. I'm planning on several days as I don't have the when marked on the packages. Very few have what I think is enough information but this system reduces that and I can't wait to begin. YIPPY.
😂 I was only faster because I had already sorted them in a different way last year so they were separated by general type, that took me days last winter! You got this!
I put a reminder note in my section of seeds for whatever week I need to sow them to plant the extra ones that don’t fit. So when I pull out the 2-4 week container there is a note reminding me to start or direct sow the corn (. Or whatever didn’t fit in the bin)
I got my photo organizer boxes at Walmart in the hobby section like 2-3 years ago. I think I need to reorganize mine by planting time as well! Then maybe I won't forget to start them on time!
Excellent job! I separate my seeds as: Flowers Herbs Tomatoes and Peppers Cold Weather Hot Weather Of course, I don’t have your inventory so I keep each grouping in Gladware three quart plastic air tight food containers. They are tall enough for most seed packages.
I am still in the midst of transitioning from one system to another. I started out with baggies and plastic containers of packets, not being super careful with them and some seeds got wet, rotted, sprouted, etc so I transferred seeds out of paper packets and into small plastic containers and bottles (for beads and buttons) that worked briefly. Last year -or maybe it was the year before (?) I bought one photo organizer on sale to handle our seed hauls and get organized for real. By this year, one photo organizer box was not enough, so I procured another. Mostly, each individual container is marked by similar family groups that require the same approximate growing conditions or divided by the type of fruit (tomatoes, for example are divided by slicers, cherry-type, and paste). It works just okay, so I am working on a color-coding system for them using dot stickers I got from the dollar store. One color for cold-hardy/frost tolerant plants, heat tolerant, frost-tender, ones that do not tolerate heat well, etc. Also considering incorporating stars (different colors or number of stars) to represent how long they need to grow. This means some containers may have multiple stickers, but I will be able to tell at a glance (hopefully) if I can plant that "now" (whenever I'm looking for something to plant).
Thanks. That looks like a great system. I use the photo boxes too - I have found they are awesome for storing seed packets. I live up by St. Louis so I’m a little colder but pretty close to the same area
I started organizing my seeds a couple months ago , I put mine in medicine bottles with. A dissent. I’m ADHD too , unfortunately my Ritalin caused TD so I twitch uncontrollably. Make it hard to organize 😂 I have 180 bottles and am not even done 😂😂😂 great job my dear !
@@FermentedHomestead mine too 😂 I even thought a kind of seed starter calendar as the christmas one and put all seeds in a pocket for the 1rst week ...and so on ...sounds crazy? I would have them all at a glance and o ly the ones I selected for sowing that year
I tried something similar. But found when I wanted to sow the next round of succession veg it didn’t work because not all seeds have the same number of growing days. So they ended up mixed up anyway. But maybe it will work better for you than it did for me 🤷🏻♀️ I went back to organizing in alphabetical order and I’ll just use my planner from the previous year to know when to pull each type of seed for planting. Then put it back in alphabetical order. Hopefully you will have better luck!
So, do you sell the veggies you grow, since you and your hubby eat carnivore, or do primarily grow them f0r your animals? And yes please, on more gardening content. I can never get enough!!
No, we just have what we want and feed the rest to the animals. We didn’t have pigs last year so hopefully this year the garden will make a big dent in the feed bill
I am a dream gardener - I have great ideas but I don’t have the discipline, motivation or resources to make it happen. I have mild ADD so I sort of understand your ADHD. Why so many seeds? Simplifying the sheer volume and variety would certainly make management mote realistic and sustainable. Just see all those seeds gives me hives. 😂
I’m not sure why I like to have so many. Honestly I didn’t realize how many I had until I went to organize them last year. I do love how pretty they are and it’s fun to have a variety in the garden. Once I figure out which varieties do best here I’m sure over time I’ll dwindle it down some
do you really need all that??...when I was a younger version of myself..I grew it all..now at 58, I grow what I actually eat..its a small list....I grow my favs, a cherry, a slicer, and canning tomatoe...half danvers carrots, blue lake pole beans, cabbage, cukes..just the basics..have grown lots of squash, all the melons, which I did nothing with..so why
Need? No, definitely not. I love gardening and love variety of colors and flavors, we buy very little from the grocery store as a result. A lot of it goes to our animals and cuts the feed bill.

Sounds great!
We are both trying to not buy any new seeds this year but it’s so tempting! I love seeing what everyone else loves
It sure is! I love having a variety of everything

Me too! Thanks to you I know to start early 😂 And I see your point but hopefully writing what’s in each small box on it will help with that
@@FermentedHomestead for sure!
Looks like you are ready for garden season. Great job getting organized! Enjoy your frequent vlog style videos.
I’m happy you enjoy them 😃 I’ve been enjoying making them too!

I hope it helps! I don’t want to end up with bins of random stuff like last year
I love my seed stash. My kids get me seeds for Christmas and birthday. Best gifts EVER!!!!!!
Great idea! I need to ask for that now
"It's after Christmas which means it's time to start gardening!" BLESS YOU! hahahah :D
Yes!

I just found her and I’m so happy I did 😃
The garden notebook is an awesome idea!!! I'm already excited for next garden season!!!
Me too!
Holy moly batman!! You will need to plant the whole homestead!!!
Your seed pantry is looking awesome!
Thank you!

Hi Anna 👋🏻
I just watched that Regenerative Gardening video. Not that I need a new system. I just want to watch all the gardening videos. 😅
Please do! That would be a big blessing!
I have 3 of those photo boxes for my veggies and fruits and 1 for my flowers
Girl...I live close by. I think you are doing a fantastic job!!❤ 👏 Love watching your channel.😊
Thank you! I definitely want to do better but I need systems and routines or all hope is lost 😂

It’s so hard to keep them organized! Hopefully this system helps!
I love the photo boxes. I was so unorganized and last year I did this. They are amazing.
Yes they are!

Ooohhhh great idea on the color dots! I might have to use that one too!
I started inventorying my seeds today. I saw her video too. Hope I can get it organized properly🙃

Holy great work.❤❤
Yes!! I love this idea!!
I can’t wait to see if this works better for you. I’m using the photo cases as well, but struggling with them.
Blessings!
I think finding the right way to organize them that works for each of us is so important with these
Awesome
Love this! Thank you for sharing ❤

@@FermentedHomestead ya for sure ! We are getting it taken care of :)
I have same problem as you and thought about the same solution

It seals nice.

That’s a good thought, maybe I’ll just have to resort them after all the spring seeds are sown
Do you direct sow the Nasturtiums? I transplanted mine last year and I’m wondering if they should have been direct sow
I believe it’s strongly recommended to direct sow a couple weeks after last frost but says you can start a couple of weeks before in containers
So, do you sell the veggies you grow, since you and your hubby eat carnivore, or do primarily grow them f0r your animals? And yes please, on more gardening content. I can never get enough!!

I DONT HAVE TONS OF SEEDS I DO NOT HAVE MUCH LUCK GETTING OLD SEEDS TO GERMINATE SO I KEEP FOR A COUPLE YEARS IF NOT USED BY THEN I PITCH
I usually have fair luck with older seeds, I only toss them if I know they’ve been damaged and usually even then I hold out hope.
