    MIGardener packets are $2/pkg, I agree with the package information which was one of their main goals; affordable seeds and necessary information to be successful in growing those seeds into full maturity. I separate my seeds by cool vs warm weather first; then moist stratify vs dry stratify vs direct sow vs warm moist stratify 2kws then cold moist stratify (chamomile etc.) vs dry freeze 1 day then soak 1 day then direct sow (catnip) vs soak over night then direct sow, Ugh! This is why I have garden planners; one from MIGardener and 1 TN which I completed myself. I have ordered the Etsy shop Blind Pig and the Acorn (youtube Celebrating Appalachia) calendar like I used to see on my Grandparents 400 acre farm kitchen cabinet. Pappy was a Rohrer;) I love the 5 year journal!!! I'd love to hear about your garden plan for this year. Decisions, decisions. Do you preserve? If so, how? Suscribed and shared.

      Thank you subscribing & this great comment. Honestly I’m starting so many seeds this year & I don’t have enough lights in the house for all of them so I’m going to winter sow a bunch which simplifies the stratification issue. We are putting in a ton of new garden beds this year and turning the front yard into new cottage garden so we need a ton of plants… need… 🤣🤣 want all the plants 🤣 preserving: canning, pickling, drying. I want to get brave and ferment… maybe this year. Thank you so much

      I also freeze a bunch because I get super busy with family, work and the garden that things get away from me and I can toss in the freezer until I have time to do something with them. I looked up the blind pig comment, I love finding recipes from Appalachian channels and websites. Very cool.

    I'm the same I don't like to order seeds from companies that don't put pictures on the packages, las year I ordered from pinetreee seeds and their packaging has no pictures I ended up cutting pictures from some of my old seed catalogs and sticking the pictures on the seed packets.

      I bought a black light flash light after I had a hornworm attack. I only found 1 but I think the birds found the others and ate them. You are absolutely correct about Bakers Creek about not giving enough information. Since I'm pretty good with growing seeds. Johnny Seeds takes a lot of my money because of their great information and germinate rates. My first time ordering seeds I spent a lot of money on people just selling seeds with no information. I almost gave up that year. But I listened to a lot of people that gives you information about different companies selling seeds and the good ones. I could say I rather as much information on the package than pretty pictures. When you spend time on seeds, soil for seeding, heating mats, lights and most of all my time. I would spend the money. Every gardener is different. I don't have patience for bad seeds. It's good to shop with different companies to see which one with the best seeds. Bakers Creek so far is one of the best besides Johnny seeds.

    • @gardenandgrease
      @gardenandgrease  Год назад +1

      I’m going to do a small order from them this year and do a side by side growing experiment with multiple seed companies. Johnnys has a huge variety of colors that I don’t see anywhere else. I literally have a list wrote down of which ones I want and haven’t pulled the trigger yet. You have pushed me over the line and I will do it. Their seed packet info looks amazing. Thank you for the great and convincing info.

  • @gracelifehomestead7634
    @gracelifehomestead7634 Год назад +1

    Their seeds use to only be a dollar a pack (with half off on season end sales). I bought almost everything they had one year...and more post; but as I examined my seed packs through my growing seasons, I discovered many packets were far less than the number of seeds and even some packets completely empty, but sealed. They fixed a few...(but with growing pains, got a bit grumpy and left my large losses completely unresolved)...so sadly I eventually found other fabulous seed sources.

    • @gardenandgrease
      @gardenandgrease  Год назад

      Which seed company are you talking about? Seeds and such? Because some of those packets were poorly sealed and it seamed like there weren’t many seeds in the packet.
