My friends father was the Dealer Principal of Key Chevrolet in Durban, Natal, they had a brand new Can Am Firenza on the showroom floor that nobody wanted, too expensive, 5000.00 Rand along with the awful OPEC oil crisis, high fuel prices and Petrol rationing. He bought the car home one evening on trade plates. Ten years later the cars were worth an absolute fortune, rare as Hen's teeth.
Fantastic car. 2x👍 I had a Vauxhall Firenza that I fitted Rover V8 3.5L running gear into, the axle needed trimmed a little. This was before CAD and 3D printing, just clever people helping me.
When u was younger we used to chip in and buy a banger for a bit of fun in as I lived in a small village. Needles to say the cars are werth a fortune now. This is the list.. Firenza magnum. 2 opel cadets coupe. 1 mini cooper s. 2 mk1 escorts. Hilman imp. Humber.. The list goes on
Technicar, the magazine road tested one of these new, it did 227 Km/h out of the box. The car developed a misfire during the test, it probably would have gone faster with a factory 4 speed and gearing. A big feat back in 1973.

My dad worked on the development of the original Can Am Firenze's in South Africa with Basil Van Rooyan. My dad worked for GMSA until leaving in 1977.
Fascinating. Thank you for sharing

Basil van Rooyen was the guy behind the Capri Perana in the early 1970's.

This car needs to do a lap on the Nordschleife with a dashcam and strategically mounted cameras around the track
