Copy your Daz program folder to another location for archive, then update the original location to whatever version you are wanting to use. If the new version doesn't work for you for whatever reason, overwrite with the back up copy. If using DIM, uncheck the Install After Download check box. Once the update file has been downloaded, you can copy this to an archive location so you always have previous versions of DS if needed. Fun fact, you can actually run previous versions of DS from the backup location if you want.

Reading through many of the comments, I see that some people have done as I have and that is to copy all my files to a separate hard drive. I run Daz on four computers and they all have two extra drives connected to them just for Daz. I also use OneDrive for storing the My Files folder and link all computers to that as well as the "F" drive on one of my desktops. Everything is working in harmony right now and I am able to start a scene on one computer and then go to another computer and continue (I have three floors and a computer on each floor. Don't judge me lol I know I have a problem but no drugs or alcohol)😅

In ready to install tab make sure Delete package once installed is unchecked before you update Daz. Then go to your c drive users/public/public documents/daz 3d/install manager/downloads. In that folder is s full copy of Daz you can save for later. I just copy those files to another folder on another drive.

You can simply copy your content library folder and after installing the program on the new device, just paste that folder into the root folder of your library and update the metadata. To make your categories work the same way they did on the previous device and have the same list you created on the previous device, here's what you need to do:
    Open DAZ Studio.
Go to the Content Library menu:
In the upper right corner of the Content Library panel, click the menu button (three bars) and select Content DB Maintenance.
In the Content Database Maintenance window that appears:
    Export User Data check box.
    Click Accept.
    Export Process:
DAZ Studio will create a file named UserData_1.dsx.
This file will be saved in the Runtime/Support folder inside your DAZ 3D library (e.g. C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Support\).
    Copying the file:
After exporting, copy the UserData_1.dsx file to the new device if you plan to migrate categories and user data.
How to import categories on the new device:
    Copying content:
Transfer all DAZ 3D library files, including the Runtime folder, to the new computer.
    Importing custom data:
Open DAZ Studio on the new computer.
Go to Content Library > Content DB Maintenance.
    Select Re-import Metadata.
In the list, check User Data 1 (if there is such a file).
Click Accept to import the categories.
After these steps, all the categories you created on the old computer will be restored on the new computer.

It's very easy to do, as I have the latest version that I don't use on my G drive, which has all my content, and I have 4.21 on my drive H, which is the version I use, I can use either, they both access the content on drive G. To do this Don't install Daz studio in another location, as that will mess up your registry settings, just copy (in chunks, if DS is in the hundreds of Gb's) DS to another drive,it's that simple, because Daz was copied, it will still work the same, and all your directory links etc will still be the same no matter where you are running Daz from, and it won't change the version, allowing you to run older versions of DS like I do.

Oh and don't run Daz studio from drive c. Invest in a second drive, run everything from that, c should only be running windows.

I have a second drive but Daz is currently on the "C" drive. I do have most materials on my "D" drive.@@peterstrong772

I guess the main thing is; you determine where the new Daz program goes!
I don't ever use DIM. I always do a manual download, and send it to the desired drive , or folder, I want.
It is different for me because I don't use the "My Library" facility, but, as commented before, I create my own "Directories" on a separate drive and link them with the "Preferences in Daz.
Checking my drives I see I have three previous Versions of Daz abandoned on them. 😀
Anyway, doing as I said above, I can't see any problem in putting the program wherever you want!

I copied my daz library from one machine to another using goodsync, I use the same path on both machines. Just for good measure I also reinstalled all content from the daz store with DIM.

The easiest way is to have your content library on a separate drive and simply link it to Studio wherever you install it. That way you can have both a normal release and the Beta using the same content library.

Oh, it's pretty easy. First of all you have to spend several weeks procrastinating. Then, when the knot in your stomach gets tight enough you sit in front of your PC with coffee and antacid tablets at the ready. Then watch some cat vids before deciding it is now too late in the day to tackle and go and watch a movie instead. The following morning, get right down to it. Follow the tutorials that don't really help until you have bits and pieces of DAZ Studio spread all over your hard drives. When you can't remember which bit is where it is time to really hit those antacid pills. When the tears start, you know you are nearly done and look... it's only been eighteen hours! Finally, when you have the thing kinda/sorta/more or less working... step away from the computer. You've done all you can and now it's time to go to the pub and try and drown out the memories of all the precious things you have lost in the transfer.

It's not hard to save the zip file. Go in to the same area where Daz 3D installs your main library folder. There should be another folder there that is called Daz 3D inside that folder is your DIM products. So anything that you have downloaded with DIM is in there there is a download folder inside of it. You should be able to get whichever copy of Daz that you have in there. And I also have five different versions on my computer starting with 4.12 all the way up through 4.23. and I have the ability to share those if you want them. I need to know where to share them to. PS you don't have to install the rest of the versions. You can extract them into a folder go in make a shortcut of the exec file and then you can right click it and put it on your start page. It will open up inside the folder that you put it in and just name the folder as to what version it is. That's how I do mine The only one that I have fully installed is whatever the new version is. And it works the same way it will find all of your other products and settings when you open up any of them. I hope this helps you can reach out to me if you need more information.
