Daz Studio Challenge: Is This the End of Genesis 8?
I've avoided using hats for this exact reason. It's such a pain in the ass to hide the poke through using any method. 😭
Well, hopefully this can help!
Awesome tip. Hair posing is actually one of my worst enemies. LOL
I hate hair! I sometimes avoid using particular hair because it won't pose.
Did you get round to doing any testing with this asset yet, i.e rendering at different resoloutions and the time savings achieved? Cheers
I haven't been able to test settings yet, but it is is the works for an upcoming tutorial!
Daz has never been good at dealing with hair and adding a hat to it makes it even worse. I've tried several methods when working with hair but you're always pretty limited because it's very easy to end up with bald spots all over the head that will show even lower down than the hat. Finding good hair for Daz is hard work, some products are better than others but none of it is great. Thanks for Hexagon tip, I'll try this one next time I need to mess with some hair.
I've always struggled with hair. Hexagon is a method that certainly helps.
Could you please send me the poses from Milica and Nulpi? I would have good use of it in one of my own projects
They are custom poses I created so I'd need to save them, but yes... I can do that!
I, don't like Hexagon. I would do the same thing with Blender.
That's awesome. I know Blender will do this type of work as well. I like hexagon because it is so easily tied to Daz Studio and is easy to use. I struggle with Blender. I was getting the hang of it a while back but then an update occurred and a bunch of stuff changed.
Fantastic, going to give this a go, I used to use deformers and the geometry tool to do this job, didn't even think to use hexagon. Wish Daz would do an update to hexagon to add a rotate around a selected point, like in ds. Merry Christmas and a happy New year to you, Ty for the videos. Top work.
Thanks for the tips! I've never had a lot of luck with hair a deformers but I'll play with it a little more.
That was very good and very well explained, thank you very much Sir. So far I have been able to solve this exact problem with the Mesh Grabber but I like this method better, it is more precise. I wish you happy holidays and thank you for all the good tutorials in the past year... 👍👌🎄
Sometime Mesh Grabber deals with hair well and other times it doesn't. I have a love/hate relationship with Mesh Grabber!
Ah! Brilliant! This has always been a PITA problem with hats and hair.
Haha! Thanks! It's not a perfect fix for hair, but it works pretty well!
Are all the assets that you used in this video free?
Unfortunately no... Assets such as Mesh Grabber and Render Queue are purchases... Render Queue isn't even available without Daz Prime anymore unless you already have it.
I have been replacing some older G3F models with newer G8F characters in some premade scenes and I have some up with a routine that works well. For my technique, make certain you have the character's shape saved, and scene subset saved. Now, for each scene, I have the following list of steps... 1 - Save the G3F Female Pose to a temporary pose folder 2 - Load the new G8F character scene subset (includes hair, clothes etc for that character). 3 - Copy the G3F, basically, select the entire character, and press CTRL+C which will copy the position they are in. 4 - If you have the original G3F character in a group, as I will sometimes do with a male and female couple to make it easier to move them both in a scene, than make certain your newer G8F character is in that group as that effects the positioning. 5 - Select the newer G8F character and Paste (CTRL+V) the G3F you copied earlier. That should move the G8F into the same position as the G3F, 6 - The above copy and paste will sometimes change the body shape slightly so apply your saved SHAPE to the new character to correct any possible problems. 7 - Apply the G3F pose you saved earlier to the new G8F. 8 - Use the script: "Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 Pose Converter" on the new G8F to correct differences. And that's it! Of course, if you're just going G8F to G8F, you won't need to correct pose errors. This is what I have been going. Another way, if it's simply G8F to G8F, is to save the newer CHARACTER (in the save menu, it literally has a CHARACTER save option) this only saves their body shape, skin and eyelashes by default. You can then simply select the old G8F, then load the new CHARACTER save (keeping the old one SELECTED) and Daz will give you the option to apply the new character to the old one, which can take quite a few minutes, but is probably the easiest when just going character to character of the same type, sadly, I'm going G3F to G8F. When you apply a character preset like this, it changes the old into the newer one, keeping all their clothes, wearables, position etc. You MAY have to adjust some things if your characters are different scales (different heights etc).
Daz Studio exists because of Poser. Daz started out as a content creator farm for Poser. They then evolved into their own thing.
Cool info, thanks. I've never used Poser and I don't know anything about it except that there are some really cool props that can be used in Daz.
I do use it and use Content Package Assist to create smart content from stuff i have bought from non-daz sites
Awesome!
I normally use the currently numbers and update them and remove the current base numbers. That is if I am trying to achieve a gradual change into the desired figure. This is a great short cut if you want an instant change.
Really interesting and some helpful tips. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad to see I'm helping a little!
I would save a temporary pose preset to have the same pose. (save only modified)
This does not work between the Genesis 8 and Genesis 9 figures
@@SolarinCaptain I have not tried this but am certain it will not work between different characters. It should work between two G9 characters however.
I just checked with 23 and it still works. If you select a character in the scene and double-click another character, then DAZ asks whether you want to apply the character to the selected character or add a character. Works like a charm. The only caveat is, that DAZ keeps the name of the original character.
Ah yes, I did indeed forget about that aspect. I think if you do it that way it will replace everything, including textures. For my example here I want to keep Ekaterina's pale complexion when she was replaced by Milica
I didn't understand the part where you said both characters have same name. You can rename all characters. I don't know if this helps. I just double click on the character and it has rename options. I am not sure if you are looking for this as this is really simple.
Well, I made it more primitive by searching for the character I wanted and right-clicking to insert or change the both characters into the scene. The clothing remained the same. Thank you very much Sir for the nice presentation, I look forward to your new tutorial every week with exciting !... 👍👌
Thanks for this. The way I usually do this is to save the original character's pose as a preset, and if needed also do that with their clothing and hair. Remove the original character, load in the desired figure, apply posing and wearables. However that does not carry over the figure's "skin".
Fired up the PC with first coffee of the day in hand. Gotta admit, when my blurry eyes tried to focus on the title I thought it read 'Swamp Characters'. Anyway, interesting vid... I need more coffee.
Thanks! Perhaps Milica may pose in a swamp sometime... but not today! LOL
Thanks for that! I shall write this one down. There have been a few occasions where I've needed to change a character in scene. Especially when you've done something that locks-up/freezes the character. This could help! Many thanks.
Glad I could help!
very cool thank you for sharing
Glad to share!
I got a subscription to Adobe, so Some things are similar, and some things are different. I also picked up some tricks from Adobe tutorials and another RUclipsr who does comics in Daz: Black Sun Comics. He got me into using some of the brushes by Ron’s Brushes in post work
Can you transfer genesis 9 morphs to 8?
Yes, I believe Daz has scripts that will turn G9 morphs into G8.
Did you find out how to ffix the Golden Palace texture?
I have plans for a tutorial on this topic coming up soon!
To be fair, you probably won't get abducted by aliens as you are already not from this world
Good point! LMAO!
Also, in GIMP you could just use the eraser tool, too "cut out" the top layer (shirt) as you to wish. No need to use the lasso tool with cut, paste, and realignment. This would give a cleaner "cut edge" maybe? with no need to blur.
If I use the eraser, won't I still need to either layer or copy and paste?
You would still need two layers in GIMP. One layer with belly skin. And the other layer on top of that, the layer which includes the image of the shirt. They are two different images, which can be made using two different DAZ renders, with the same camera position. Provided you do not change the render size, one render layer would fit exactly on top of the other in GIMP, making alignment easy. Use the eraser in gimp to "cut away" the bits of the shirt that you do not want. (you can also "undo" any cuts, that you are not happy with.) There would be no reason to cut and paste, or use the lasso tool. if you use a "sharp" eraser in GIMP, I believe that a clean edge would result, with no smudging required. I have never tried this.
Woohoo!!! Free the nipple @ 10:36!
You really need to work on your Gimp skills because I think you're missing out on a lot of creation tools that would be cleaner and (believe it or not) easier... once you know how to do things you want. You can use MS Paint. It works ok enough for the basics. And you're comfortable with that. But to say it does text "better" than Gimp would... that's just weird to hear. You haven't used Gimp enough if you believe that to be true for you. Gimp does text just fine. It's a comfort thing, that's all.
I'm certainly no expert in GIMP! I must admit I never use text in it at all. I know I should play around with it and learn how to use it with text. Other viewers have suggested I use Comic Life 3, so I'm checking that out first as I continue using MS Paint for now.
Hi can you explain why iray viewport make my gpu temperature rise up to 80°c dramatically.
All I know is that the more GPU and CPU you need, the more the computer works. My only suggestion would be to check out your drivers and make sure they are correct and updated... Perhaps your graphics card is having trouble handling Daz Studio. What are you using?
Daz's acronym "DIM" doesn't stand for "Download Internet Manager." It's "Daz Install Manager." Just sharing some knowledge with someone who likes sharing his own.
Yep, I misspoke on that one!
It's on sale right now. 50% off! He wasn't wrong.
Which asset is that robotic arm from? couldnt immediately see it in the Daz store?
I think it is a prop by Davo from Renderotica.
If you would have simply added the two original images as layers in the same image, you could have simply cut away the part of her that you don't want to keep or, in other words, make your selection exactly the same, and then invert the selection and delete the inverted part (making sure the layer has an alpha so it doesn't erase to a color instead of transparent). There would be no reason to manually align anything because it was already perfectly aligned originally. Much faster and perfectly precise than doing it on a separate image and then trying to paste and drag. You would do better to edit the two images as separate layers either way and you can anti-alias and feather the edge of your selection as well to avoid having to "smudge" to get rid of the jagged selection edge. Non-destructive editing is generally a preferred practice and pasting directly onto the original image leaves no room for error when making your creative manipulations. The concept is cool, but there are techniques to make this all much easier and cleaner.
layers work great as well. Personally I don't exactly like using layers in GIMP. I which the interface was easier to use.
@@notfromthisworld7672 I will give you that... the layers functionality in Gimp is NOT as good as it could be... Photoshop is far superior in that regard. But it's much better than Microsoft Paint's **cough** (non-existent) layers feature. LOL I wish layers could be multiple-selected in Gimp and I don't like how blending modes works inside groups. But you sort of learn your way around those disadvantages to take advantage of the better overall usage benefits of layers. Whatever works best for you. Just adding my personal unsolicited thoughts to the conversation in case anyone gets any benefit from me doing so.
Great vid as usual. I've also used this technique to fill a scene with more characters than DAZ Studio can handle.
Yep! It is great for that!
Thank you very much Sir, that's a good approach in post-work but wouldn't it be nice to see how you can do it with Hexagon rather than in 3D to see the spatial effect better? Your site deserves much more attention, I always recommend it to my friends because of the excellent didactics!... 👌
Thanks a lot! We could do this in Hexagon, but creating the cut look might be a challenge. Hexagon is great for having clothes be taken off!
I always make a pose preset for this, but this option is great if you don't want the other figure to move to the original figure's position. Thank you!
Ah yes, the pose preset... Something I probably could have done for my latest video I just posted.
Nice tip but, I was wondering, don't you think you can obtain (maybe) a better "effect" creating and applying a tranparency map to the shirt texture? IMHO
I'll have to play around with that, but yes, It might help. There are so many aspects that can be used when trying to achieve a certain look in your scene. Transparency slipped my mind for this one!
What a great tip! Thank you!
Thank you!
That's a good idea! 👍 I was wondering, do you, like myself, sometimes get annoyed that someone makes a dress or shirt, but doesn't make it do anything? I mean it doesn't undo, or open! I've tried, in the past, to adjust the mesh, where it was just two buttons keeping it closed, but then I can't save it because I've altered the mesh!! Have you tried anything similar, or got any ideas? 🤔
It happens to me all the time. Most clothing does nothing and I find myself trying to pose it. Back in the day it was unparenting the clothing and trying to move it into a sort of good position. Then it was mesh grabber, moving parts of the clothing to pose. Now it is Hexagon which I think works the best at moving the clothing into a real position as she takes it off. The challenge is getting that "cut" look in mesh grabber or Hexagon.
A similar, if marginally quicker way is to select the figure, go to the posing tab, select Copy Figure, then select the other figure, and select Paste pose. Same number of clicks - no waiting.
yea! That works as well. I'll keep that one on my list as well! Thanks!
@@notfromthisworld7672 Thank *you*. Even when I have alternate solutions, your videos inspire me to explore the program more deeply.
Good info again. I had no idea you could even do that under 'General'.
I feel like I should make a short tutorial showing every pose hack I know from other tutorials.
Great hacks! Hadn't known about those but I can already see where they are going to save me time. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Danm, I've been doing it the hard way. I've just been saving my custom poses. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that out.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Because I was always wondering if copying poses could be done. And that just made it a whole lot easier. As well as faster.
Yes, it's amazing how something so simple can make a huge difference!
Thank you Sir, again something helpful learned !... 👍👌
Glad to hear that!
Nice
