    Will needing new rear brake pads cause the accelerator to stop working? I can unhook the battery cable for a while, everything works after a minute the yellow (P!) light comes on and the accelerator Pedal stops working.. Then you are stranded...Will new rear bràke pads remedy This?

    I just replaced the rear brakes on our 2019 CX-5 and had this same issue when trying to take the car out of the brake service mode. We could hear one of the calipers trying to apply the parking break but would eventually stop. The issue ended up being the caliper piston spinning before reaching the break pad and the notches in the piston not lining up and grabbing the nipple on the back of the brake pad. We had to re-align the piston and then press the brake pedal to make sure it was touching the bake pad before taking the caliper out of service mode.

    • @chriss1728

      Do this, before out of maint mode press brake pedal couple of times and wallah. If you hear a long running ine during reactivation it will need alignment

      I experienced the same thing. The problem started because the mechanic did not perform the back pads change using the maintenance mode procedure. I had to replace both calipers and you can still hear a dragging sound... no realignment is done so far... you think that could solve the issue?

  • @mrmotofy

    There's also seems to be an early failing brake pedal switch causing multiple erroneous errors and lights. The TPMS will light, the TCS will light and no start. The brake pedal switch fails and doesn't allow to start since it doesn't sense the pedal being pressed. I finally confirmed it when I could see a delayed activation of the brake lights that was random timing. Press pedal after say 10 sec no brake lights, then they would come on and car starts. A quick easy cheap fix is new Stop Lamp Switch.
    To remove the switch rotate it in the bracket then it can slide out of the hole. I found it rather easy to look in the hole under the steering column and use a 16" flat screwdriver in one hand then reach in with the left hand to grab the switch and pop the connector off. Much easier that trying to get 2 hands up under there.
    Was only $26 at the dealer, to make sure it's a factory genuine part. 2016 CX-5 was # BN7N-66-490A

      Honestly, 1:35 and 2:26 clearly sounds like you haven’t been doing your scheduled break maintenance, that in canada personally I do every 8-10k Kms. It’s a crucial maintenance to ensure things like this doesn’t happen. Break maintenance includes cleaning the breaks from any possible dirt in between the pads and rotors (which cause that sound in my two timeline tags)
      I see many cx5s a day and personally had one to know what you can put them through and and this is just irregular!

    • @tenders
      @tenders  Год назад +2

      @@luigipapo234 There is no such scheduled brake maintenance on the CX-5, and dirt between pads and rotors has nothing to do with this problem. Having now owned the car through 60k miles and having just replaced all four rotors and sets of pads, a process which included having to fiddle with the EPB motors, I have concluded that this vehicle's brake design is unnecessarily complicated because of the EPB. I like this vehicle but would not get another one. Our Subaru Crosstrek is a superior car overall.

    Did you ever get a resolution on this? It just happened to me today on my 2017 CX-5 and they told me it’s a electronic parking break motor failure and that it needs to be replaced. “The technician that worked on your car is saying it’s not from something th did.” I’m lowkey calling bullshit because I just had my brakes and brake fluid done last week... I don’t buy the excuse a week after having my brakes worked on.

    • @tenders
      @tenders  3 года назад +2

      My problem was easily - but not cheaply - diagnosed and repaired by the Mazda dealer: electronic parking brake motor plus right rear caliper. I think this is a manufacturing defect that hasn't been acknowledged by Mazda. Unusual for Mazda in my experience. But I also think the dopey non-Mazda dealer that sold me the car should have fixed it.
      Update: the problem reappeared in April 2022 and got worse. The problem this time was the LEFT EPB motor, another $500+ repair. I complained to Mazda USA. This shouldn't happen on vehicles with 25k and 40k miles on them.

      @tenders  3 года назад +2

      There is a service bulletin out for this type of error on 2016 cars - you should track that down. But for my 2017 model, I’m still battling this issue. I purchased the car from a Nissan dealer in Butler, NJ who also sells recent-model cars from many manufacturers, and it’s currently back with them for the second time. They were very slow in diagnosis and turnaround the first time, and have not communicated exactly what they’ve done or what they think is wrong. It strongly resembles the symptoms for the 2016 recall but the defective part was corrected after that model year. On the plus side, they haven’t charged me, but on the minus side, the car has barely been driven. They replaced the left rear caliper, and claim they replaced the electronic brake motor and electronic module, but the receipt doesn’t say that and there is still a problem with the brake dash lights showing an error periodically (as in this video), and the right rear brake staying engaged after release with no warning lights on (a big problem).

      No. Paid a Mazda dealer $700 last winter to replace the right rear caliper, right rear motor, and left rear pads. This was after the selling dealer (who was not a Mazda dealer) claims to have also replaced the right rear caliper and right rear motor, a repair I actually don't think was done. All worked fine for nearly a year until it got very cold two weeks ago, and the exact same symptoms occurred again. It thawed itself out once the temperature got up to about 25 degrees. I surmise the problem must be the LEFT rear caliper/motor? Pretty disgusted. This is otherwise a very good vehicle. EDIT: this was indeed the exact problem, LEFT rear EPB motor, and it required replacement a year after the right rear EPB motor was replaced. Recall-worthy poor design, just like the 2016 recall.

      If this happened after a brake pad change, the question has to be asked: were the brakes first placed in “maintenance mode”? If not, the module is likely damaged. That is not the issue with my vehicle.

    You have to pull up on it to turn it off
