    Funfact! The Romans used snails to get that rich royal purple! It took an unreasonable amount of snails to make the dye, but I just think that's a really neat little nod to history.

    • @Anergyne
      @Anergyne 2 месяца назад +2

      Which is why it's called 'royal purple'. The snails were rare and as you said it required an unreasonable amount of them. This meant that only the richest and most powerful people could ever afford purple clothing. ie, kings.

    • @leseratte3431

      And maybe add, that we are talking about "sea" snails

    • @fragnade7079
      @fragnade7079 2 месяца назад +3

      It goes back even further than the romans. The phoenicians were making dyes from the sea snails. The unique items they could produce is said to be one of the main reasons why the assyians and hittites allowed them to continue. Maybe there’s a link between Carthage being a Phoenician city and the romans trading with and the defeating the carthaginians and the journey of this dye throughout ancient civilisations

    It would be kinda cool to have a populare versus optimate theme.
    Balancing the needs of the patricians as the elite administrators who rely heavily on the stock of slaves who work the big plantations, service buildings, and construct the great works.
    The more anno-traditional progression of pleb population also require farm land (more for sustaining themselves rather than for export) and provide craftsmen and military manpower. But they can only promote up to being an equestrian class.

    Looking at the article in German, it actually uses the English names for the population tiers and it doesn't give a German translation for Wader (but it does for smith and mercator), so Wader really is the English name for the first tier. I tried to google for what it might mean but couldn't find anything referring to population groups. The only thing I can think of is that it might be a name chosen based on the act of wading (through water).

    This culture approach reminds me of Europa Barbarorum, a mod for Rome Total War and Medieval2 Total War.
    When you take over a region, you get to choose if you want to keep the local culture or try to convert it to your own. This affects Public Order but also what buildings are available and most importantly, what troops you can train. You have Native troops which are your culture's own or you go for Regional troops which are region-specific. If you want to access the most powerful regional troops (those are usually noble-class), you have to allow local nobility to have full autonomy, it's basically an Allied state, not a colony.

    I'd love to see multiple paths for religion in Albion, with various effects along the same lines as the population choice:
    A) Support local (paganism?)
    B) Enforce state pantheon
    C) Encourage missionaries (early spread of Christianity)

    I like the mechanics of the OG city building games such as Pharaoh. In this instance, you could choose a patron deity amongts a small selection... and by honoring them sufficiently (or ignoring them), it triggers random bonuses and maluses. I like your idea that two pantheons could compete, too!

    Hey Taka, thanks for the overview!
    I had a look at the article and it looks like they updated it a bit. Right now it says, that once you've reached the last tier of the population you've chosen, you're free to switch it around. Later on, mixed cities of both Mercators and Smiths would also be (probably) possible.
