Eddie Hall lifting 500kg deadlift. Steroids does not making the lifting easier or the weight lighter. It's the opposite, it makes the competition more difficult, because it is more punishing. Steroids allow the man to brutalise his body with torturous training for an extended period of time to lift the weight. Why anyone would want to put themselves through that speaks volumes about their willpower. I'd love to be world's strongest man, but I'd sooner have someone pull my toenails out with a pair of plyers than put myself through the training to get to that level.
When I see people get all upset about strongmen using steroids, accusing them of cheating and making it easy, It's hard to find the words.

im not a doctor or overly medically educated on steroids and peds but i agree that steroids and strongman and vastly different to steroids and bodybuilding…like you say watchingnthe strong men push human limits of strength with 1000lb deads is fucking incredible and really who gives a shit if theyre on them… bodybuilding on the other hand i will never understand but if people love doing it then let them do it… but to me, having giant muscles for no reason other than having them doesnt make sense to me

i don't think Mark condone steroids use. He's just saying "it's gonna happen anyway, quit bitching" rather than " i think they should use steroid"

there's illegal behavior and then there's illegal behavior. I'm not worried one bit about someone using steroids, no skin off my sack. Mark's only issue is he's a stubborn ass texan, a gift and a curse. Sounds like you're trying for the job of a nagging wife.

People have a strong incentive to break the rules so we should just grow up and let them? If steroids were legal in sports it would lead to an "arms race" that would be hilarious to watch if it wasn't so tragic.

    • @startingstrength

Because that's not happening now, right?

    • @daleg.9673

Doesn't the drug testing keep it in check to some degree? The cheaters may be one step ahead, but every time the testers catch up, a cheater is caught -- and when they are, they should be done. I shudder to think of the mutants that would be competing in an unregulated system.

Taking steroids gives athletes an advantage but puts them at high risk of negative health consequences. If steroids were legal in sports, every athlete would either have to take them and risk the negative health consequences, or compete at a disadvantage against athletes who do take them. Since it's unfair to make athletes choose between being competitive in their sport and avoiding the high risk of steroid use, all competitive athletes need to be tested for steroids to make sure that no one can gain an unfair advantage.
