    So, the real reason Dungeon Dice Monsters exists is because the creator of YuGiOh, Kazuki Takahashi, originally grew up loving table top RPGs and since the manga was straying away from what he originally wanted it to be, he decided to add that into the manga inbetween the Battle City arc and the Duelist Kingdom arc just to take a break from the card game while he worked on fleshing out the rules.
    Also, Pegasus straight up dies in the manga. And Joey never wore a dog costume in the manga. That was just some weird add-on to add filler to the show.
    (Literally grew up with YuGiOh so I've learned too much about this stuff)

    • @Armyn13
      @Armyn13 6 лет назад +79

      Duke was sent by his father to kill Yugi for supposedly killing Pegasus. Also, it's Yugi playing instead of Atem. In the anime, the duel was split into the Dungeon Dice episodes and the Bandit Keith duel at the start of Battle City. There are a lot of the same themes, like the Millennium Puzzle being stolen and shattered after the duel.

    • @WaterKirby1994
      @WaterKirby1994 5 лет назад +27

      Yeah Konami screwed over the game completely the moment they changed the board. I could accept Synchro Monsters & XYZ Monsters as you could still play without using them if you wanted. I refuse to accept Link Monsters are anything more than a spinoff game. Konami sucks & ruined Yugioh with their excessive greed. They could have easily made spinoff rulesets although were too lazy to make banlists for more than 1 game. DeckMaster Duels, Turbo Duels (Tabletop Form), & Link Duels all could have been successful spinoffs of the Main Game.
      Konami's a really scummy company beyond Yugioh, that often screws over the properties it owns these days. DeckMaster Duels you would have a list of approved Deck Masters with effects you could use based on the Virtual World Saga of Season 3. Turbo Duels would utilize Speed Counters & could have been successful for the 5Ds Era. Link Duels as a spinoff could have prevented us from losing the true ruleset of Yugioh.

      @@10tailedbijuu The game wouldn't have become stale without new gimmicks. The needless obsession with gimmicks ruined the cardgame to many fans. Keep in mind that GX didn't need to introduce a new gimmick. What Vrains did made the game completely unplayable.
      The Card Game lasted for 8 full years on just the basic formula. There wasn't a need to add XYZ only 3 years after Synchros, it could have waited another 2. Arc V didn't really need to have a new gimmick in Pendulum Summons.

    Worth mentioning is that the japanese version was much better, each die had unique sides to it (as opposed to the stock dice that are provided in the us release), they folded like the dice in the show, each figure pack had its own unique die in it that folded out into the maze (so you weren't stuck with the few maze patterns provided in the us release) and figures seemed to look better. I imagine if the us release was like the jp release, it would have done at least slightly better because what we got was bare bones. The starter set in japan even had more monsters so you could have a more fleshed out battle.

    • @evilmidget
      @evilmidget 5 лет назад +7

      There were quite a number of problems with those fold out dice.
      1. They could NEVER stay flat, not unlike that horrid game mat the starter set came with.
      2. They didn't always stay together when they were closed.
      3. There was no way to associate a die with a monster, so you could just make a broken set of dice, but use whatever monsters you want.
      4. The path shapes were very limited, especially in the starter set.
      5. No unique colors, so there was no way to tell your opponent's paths from your own except for a little name tag on one of the squares.

At least with the Pendulum Zones we could still summon our Fusions/Synchros/XYZ monsters normally, these days only those who watch VRAINS are allowed to officially play the game. The need for Link Monsters to even play the game now was infuriating. As well as the crap they did with the Stateside distribution of the anime, which for VRains never happened.
      It takes far too long for me to learn things, so I was forced to retire from Yugioh forever. Supposedly there will be a new gimmick in another year while I'm still trying to understand the new rules. You're talking to someone who misses 1 per deck Monster Reborn.
      Konami never thinks to try to go back to old overlooked Duel Styles like Tag Duels, Deck Master Duels, Labyrinth Duels, & Tabletop Riding Duels for the TCG. I would have preferred they did that rather than just keep changing up the main game. Remember Dungeon Dice Monsters? If Link Duels were established as a special format for the Yugioh card game rather than the main format I would probably still have interest in the card game.

      @@ShadowJay98 I think the pendulums make sense since they are kinda spells and giving them their own slots seemes like having extra spell/trap zones. But thats just my opinion.

    • @notbones1664
      @notbones1664 6 лет назад +7

      ShadowJay98
      They added Link monsters, a new type of extra deck monster that changed a lot about the way the game is played.
      Now any monster that's summoned from the extra deck goes into the extra monster zone, making it so that you can only control one extra deck summoned monster at a time.
      Unless of coarse you summon a Link Monster to the extra monster zone, in which case you can then summon extra deck monsters to any zone a link monster points to.
      The way the pendulums zones are makes sense given that pendulum monsters are sort of half spell card and were a bit overpowering last gen so I can see this and extra monster zones being made as a way to nerf them......it just worked a bit to well.

    • @brandongreen4439
      @brandongreen4439 6 лет назад +18

      ShadowJay98 I'll try to keep it as textbook basic as I possibly can.
      Extra Monster Zone, any card that you summon from the Extra Deck, if it's Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, Face-Up Pendulum, or the new Link Monsters, must be summoned in one of these zones. Link Monsters can, lack of a better term, turn other Monster Zones into Extra Monster Zones so you can still summon from the ED multiple times a turn. If you summon from the grave or banish zone, this does not apply.
      Master Rule 4, the Link Summoning update, made it to where the Pendulum Zones were shoved into the S/T Zone and occupy that space. You are still able to use normal Spells and Traps there, but you have to use those spots if you want to set your Pendulum Scale.
      In short, Links, Extra Monster Zones and the change to Pendulum Zones were all to nerf Pendulums.

      Brandon Green I got chewed out when I said the format especially after 5Ds was way too bullet proof for new comers. The Dragon Ball Super card game is a good example. Its attracting all kinds of attention (Release in Canada or make an online component damn you). You can explain all the game rules in the time it took you just to explain what zones are just now, but still has depth. I worry for the community. It seems to be shrinking steadily.

Table top Strategy games just need you to turn up with an army (plus dice and tape measure I guess) and you can play anywhere. The other problem I think was that the episode of the show came out about a year before the game itself was widely available.

I even used it to come up with an alternate game of my own that I called Dice Quest, which combined aspects of DDM with various parts of the real world card game and some ideas from the cartoon. • @maskedriderweaver4122
      @maskedriderweaver4122 5 лет назад +2

      Sure, jordan simon, Dice Quest was played on a map, not just a grid, and just like Duelist Kingdom (Season 1), Monsters got a power bonus if they were in favorable terrain. Instead of the dungeon boss from DDM, players would select one monster as their avatar on the field. This was the first monster they had to summon before they could summon any other, and it usually gained a special power from being the avatar (kind of like the Deck Master system). My proudest innovation was the idea of how to handle uneven numbers of players. This combines multiple maps, usually. One player takes the role of a "ruler", and does not use an avatar. The other players play as normal, but they cannot change maps. The "ruler" can send monsters between maps. The "ruler" must destroy the avatars of the other players before they can reach his side of the maps. First player to reach the "ruler's" back row wins. I'm afraid I lost a lot of the details because the computer it was on crashed.

    I have a personal connection to Dungeon Dice Monsters, I've always loved dice (and have become something of a collector as of late) and I actually really liked Duke Devlin when I first saw the anime, so much so that I used to cosplay him at convention and it became my signature cosplay for a number of years and this started BEFORE LittleKuriboh reached that point in the abridged series. I had so much fun cosplaying as Duke and I think I felt at my most confident in my entire life when in that costume, sure DDM itself wasn't as good as it could have been but because of that I have so many great memories so I'm still really thankful for everything it brought to me.
    On another note you should absolutely look into the many Yu-Gi-Oh anime as there is quite a fascinating occurrence with how the series got noticeably worse with each new iteration where the dub was concerned but the original actually got better throughout GX and 5D's, ZeXal is a bit of an oddity but got much better the longer it went and Arc-V had colossal potential that was squandered towards the end. You're likely to get crucified by the fandom for saying this but I honestly think the first YGO series is by far the least interesting despite most people saying it's the only one worth watching.

    • @nasuada4732
      @nasuada4732 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I agree that the newer series are good too. I’ve seen DM seasons 1,2 and 4 (I never had 3 or 5 back in the day), GX seasons 1-3, Zexal season 1 and most of 2, and all of Arc-V minus the last 10 or so episodes. Don’t ask me why the numbers are so random, because I don’t know, but I agree that the original isn’t flawless or automatically better than the others. I actually really enjoyed GX, and Arc-V was pretty good until it went off the rails. I think the original series would have been better if it didn’t introduce nearly 2 seasons of filler that never happened in the manga.

      Yeah, DDM was just one of many games in the manga, it wasn't specifically introduced to capitalized on anything. Gaming in general was already a concept in the manga that the readers were used to and it wasn't strange for a new game to pop up after a card-heavy arc like Duelist Kingdom. Even the final arc brought back the tabletop RPG and a few other games on top of Duel Monsters.
      It'd be sweet if more "informative" Yuugiou videos on RUclips were made by people who are actually familiar with the source material. It annoys me when people call DDM a "spin-off" when it was from the original manga.

He calls the ANIME version DDM a cash grab because the entire duel monsters anime was a response to how fans actually took more intrest in the card game rather than the other games, so basically a cash grab.

      I saw them briefly in stores and had a set but since it like Duel Monsters didn't have the NATURAL INTENSITY THAT COMES WITH A CHILDREN'S GAME or the visuals like the show I never actually played it or any of the games. I just think dice are neat (^__^ ;)

    i liked yugioh cards as a kid. however i quickly found out that the game changed too quickly for my junior high allowence to keep up with and i only made it through two or three different booster packs before i gave up. shame, bc yugioh was the more interesting card game over pokemon.

      The reason the game changes so fast is because Konami is a greedy scummy company that likes to screw over the older players of the game. You can't even officially play the game anymore without Link Monsters.
