In my opinion the brake lever adjustment is designed this way so you can adjust it on the fly by one hand only when you ride even with gloves on , on the other hand the clutch lever you have to use both hands , one hand to pull out the lever and the other to turn the adjustment wheel to desired number in order to have a short or long pulling stroke .
That adjuster is for the brake light switch . It determines at what point the switch closes to turn on brake light. There appears to be no adjustment for the lever position itself.
Nice theory, but not true. It is indeed an adjuster knob for the brake lever travel distance. Check page 4-17 of the owner's manual. You can see the lever distance change as you adjust knob.
The gen 1 air scoops were aluminum. They made room for the air filter. I always thought it was a dumb complaint that they weren't functional since how much pressure can you muster with an "air scoop".
My lever adjusters are the same as yours on my 2020 Vmax. I am getting 35 mpg driving around Denver and 40 on the highway. My bike is stock other than a Puig Vmax specific windshield.
Thanks Master Jeff, all info is very useful! I hope someday you can do a production of you and the MAX on a very curvy road, or just a curvy road,,love to see how that goes and what it looks like. I love curvy winding roads with slight hills. :)
Check out 2016 Vmax running the tail of the dragon. I mounted the camera just under the headlight so its gives some good engine sound. You don't get more curvy than that !
So I have an issue with my side mirrors. I have a 2017 red VMAXX and when I'm riding the mirror get loose. The left side mirrors actually fell off as I was riding. Any aftermarket suggestions? Thanks for the help ahead of time.
Mine still has the stock mirrors. Coincidently, my left mirror came loose twice. I needed to really torque it down hard with a wrench to finally lock it in place. I wrapped a rag around the nut so I wouldn't scratch the surface.
Hey Sean, the manual says to use 91 octane and above. I run 91 or 93 depending on the station I happen to be at. There are only a few stations near me that offer non ethanol. None of the non ethanol I have found go higher than 87 octane. I prefer non ethanol and would put it in my MAX if I could find some 91 or higher. I run non ethanol in my portable generator and my pressure washer.
@@JeffMarcum good to know thanks. I just picked up my VMAX yesterday and have been watching all of your videos. It's been great seeing your content. I'm in Tallahassee of you're ever down this way and want to go for a ride
@@JeffMarcum Yes 2009, I'll make a video on it with a general walk around and start up. Previous owner did some nice mods and a dyno test. Pretty neat to see how much hp is produced at different throttle positions.
@@sean-rady I look forward to your video. I would like to dyno test mine just to see what the numbers are on a stock bike. I’ll post a video if I do it. It would be handy for others who have made mods to compare the differences.
Yamaha probably knows that most riders will change their brake and clutch levers to after market ones like I have AVS a lot more adjustment and unbreakable but not cheap in the UK £220

I agree the brake lever could be adjusted with one hand while. Although, the manufacturer would probably not suggest doing so.

Apologies Jeff ! When in doubt, check the manual ! That's the second time I've been wrong this year... .

@@Jason-sz5zv What exhaust are you running?
I'll try and find such a road and add that to the queue.
As you said I a previous video the front brake master cylinder is made by Brembo, so you get a Brembo style adjuster I guess 😉
the brake lever i suppose is set up for cruise switch ? just a thought. The V Max is a cool bike
yes, the one on the clutch lever is the same style as on the '04 Yamaha FJR..... don't know about that brake lever one?
I greatly doubt YAMA would have pulled any last minute switch on the MAX levers.

I think maybe because its a Brembo master cylinder ?
Sounds plausible. I will try and look at other bikes with Brembo master cylinders and see if they have different adjustments. Thanks for sharing.
