My hen 2 is leaking and I was surprised to see they are conventional not upside down forks being they are usually much less prone to leaking. I need to do them but have actually stopped the leak by removing /pulling up the upper scraper seals so I could clean the main seals. So far so good.

I loosened up the lower bolt that you come up from below, used an impact driver and 10mm allen. It loosened but won't come all the way out. I can hear the stuff inside turning now. The Yamaha manual mentions the bolt but that's about it. The Clymer manual actually says if the bolt won't come out you have to insert a special tool in from the other end to hold that.

I had hoped to use this method to avoid the special tools and such. Am I stuck now?

Kelly Field pull the inner tube while you hit it with the impact. burp it a few times and it should come on out

I tried that several times and several other ideas. No deal.
It appears to be a momentum thing. My mistake was to stop before it came all the way out and try to use a standard ratchet to get it out the last bit.
I couldn't get it to spin on out so after taking the shock off the bike anyhow and having it more accessible I drove it back it and started over. That worked. The trick seems to be to NOT stop until it's out on the initial high speed run.

Late response. We don't run any pressure in the forks. Use a full synthetic power steering or auto trans fluid (which will be approx 15wt) and you should be in good shape if you have the proper preload. We are now selling preload caps for people who want more tuning ability on their front ends. Visit our Morleys Muscle website and Facebook pages for more info.

removed mine today and the retainer nut shot out. the preload spacer came out about 1-3/4 inches. and the spring is extremely still. Not sure how a person would collapse this enough to re-install retainer nut..? Any ideas are appreciated. I was told when I got the bike that progressive springs were installed although I haven't had them out yet. Great vid.

My end caps on my 1997 VMAX were superglued on I think. I want to put aftermarket non-air top caps back on.
What MM are they & what would you recommend????? Thx so much.

We offer a custom set of fork caps that are adjustable with about 1" of preload travel available. Email me at one2dmax@aol.com for more info.
