Anyway if you ever roll through southern Wisconsin I’d be honored to fill your hopefully almost empty tank up to full. Reach out to me if you find yourself in the area. Safe travels brother 🙏🏻

Nice thing about being an equipment operator, is that you can pick up work anywhere equipment is being used. I know a lot of guys who travelled and followed work all over Canada and the US over the years. No worries if you run short of money or just want to make some in one place for a while, there's always a place that needs operators.

Kevin, always been a fan of yours as you seem so level headed. Not sure how quitting a job fits into that description but this is a scenario where you just trust those you believe in. If you have been planning this then good for you. I hope your decision is not built on a dream of creating a RUclips and Patreon empire like so many others have tried. Whatever you do most of us just want the best for you. Use caution but give this dream your best shot! Dave

I'm 54 and working up in the oilsands and now waiting to do what you're doing once I retire, no complaints but I kind of wish I had done something like this when I was younger. Maybe you'll inspire me to just quit sell my house and do it! Don't get me wrong working up here has given me a lot of opportunity to do some traveling and give my 18 year old son the same opportunities, But I think it's just about my time to move on! Congrats dude. Keep pushing through. Onward and upward!
It took me a bit over a year but I finally found a job I could tolerate, hell, even kind of like and now I'm socking away like crazy while I stay with my parents.
The dream is to buy some bare land by the beginning/middle of next year and then work the land in my free time/save until I feel comfortable stepping away and going full time on the property. The cool thing is my job pretty much welcomes back people, like if I was dire for work I could probably get in and then once things open up more I'd likely be able to rejoin full time if needed.
Anyway, all that to say, it will work out, I didn't think it would for me but I'm finding my way and I know you will too. Stay strong.

My father worked in Nordegg as a prison guard/ crew chief back in the 60's and 70's, when there was an adult prison. He also had a huge tract of land east of the Brazeau range for hunting and trapping. I was very fortunate to have inherited half of that land. I grew up traversing all of the slopes, ridges and peaks around Nordegg and Abraham Lake, both on foot and horseback. It brings great pleasure to see others appreciate the same thing that i am forever grateful to be able to experience daily. There are many forgotten things on the slopes and in the valleys around there. Things that I have yet to see posted on the internet.
Two things that you can try and find:
    1. A rarely mentioned, all but forgotten, concrete ruins of a WWII German POW camp. It's location is less than 50km, as the crow flies, from Nordegg.
    2. A glacial erratic that is very close to the size the Okotoks big rock and most likely a sister to both the Okotoks and Rocky Mountain house erratics. I actually think it is bigger than the Okotoks one, because it is in the middle of a muskeg field and in a very swampy spot. A lot more of it is buried and cannot be seen. Regardless, it sticks out over 30 feet above the ground/water level and is about 200 feet long by about a hundred feet wide... a massive stone monolith, where no stone should be. That is about 40km as the crow flies from Nordegg.
Al the best to you moving forward!

I love the idea of being somewhere super remote with a van/truck set up like you have, bring my e-bike with me and get starlink, load in a monitor and a gaming laptop (im a nerd like that) that way I can go off and adventure during the day in a very very remote setting and then come back, cook dinner watch a movie or even my favorite team play, maybe get some work done if you work remotely. then rinse repeat, you could literally be out there for as long as your supplies last you lol which to me is a lot cooler than just always being on the move. Once I felt I explored the area enough I would start looking for a new place, and along the way stop for supplies and whatever else you need and its right off into another super remote destination lol.

Congratulations. Has to be an overwhelming feeling of both pressure and just a general sense of happiness too. I don't have any children or wife or really any debt but still sort of struggling to just sort of live middle class even though I am a business owner. I sell a lot of different things so not everything is in one basket but the thing that sells the best for me is starting to get exploited by outside buyers, the second that happened I realized I better slow down my life style and in my head I was thinking if it ever did collapse, I would definitely have enough money to downsize my life to something like this, but I still think I'd want a home somewhere. Maybe buy a piece of land in Appalachia and throw a used manufactured home on it. That'd be home base, and really more of my vacation away from life while I travel around in a van/truck with a camper and whenever I get bored, head back home find another place to go to, rinse repeat. Actually wouldn't be as expensive as you might think. I'm already paying $2,000/mo on my apartment plus another $2k/mo for my warehouse. That's almost $50,000 in expenses just for an apartment and a warehouse, and that's before I turn the lights on lol. I would guess I'm dumping closer to like $60k/yr. Don't get me wrong I am happy but I know it's not going to last forever.
