Thanks for watching
Love how, even if she's not on camera, you can usually hear Kona doing her thing in the background.
She's usually not far away whenever im working. If she's not napping, that is...
The 3D controller came out around 96, and came bundled with the game "Nights into Dreams". The switch at the bottom allows you to switch from analog to digital controls.
Yeah, it's the Saturn's equivalent of the Dual Shock/DS2 "Analog" toggle.
@@ZonicMirage A joke but a equivalent that came first lol.
@@gentarofourze It's the principle of the matter! (I didn't know which came first and was too lazy to check, so thanks)
If only Kona could speak... Pretty sure she diagnosed the problem with that Nomad in a couple of seconds by smell.
Hey guys, he's hinting at capacitors, nice on chap.
That was one hell of a haul! Can't wait for the follow up vids! Love the mail day stuff! Glad to see Kona as always!
I’m only here for Kona 😭 great content as usual can you show some neo geo repairs if possible 👍
The nomad is probably just the contrast wheel. It shows like that if turned the whole way down.
Agreed
Yeah, that was my immediate thought as well. (Honestly, if the other Nomad's screen is borked, it might be worth swapping the wheel from the old one to the new, to see if that's it, then hopefully just have to do the more involved repair to the other one.
Oooh I see so many interesting and entertaining videos comming. Thank you Kona.
Nomad is supposed to output Audio to TV too. Also as others have said, the contrast is probably just borked. Also, the freezing if you treat it rough is a common thing with Nomads.
I was buying a ton of Nintendo stuff as "untested" at one time to resell. I rarely ever found something didn't work. I just think people find the stuff in their attic and garagae and don't have the means to test them on the their new tvs or don't care. I take them apart and clean them up and sell them off for a good profit.
Times have changed. At least on eBay. Lots of broken stuff online now.
@@earlspencer7863 yea I was mainly referring to the cartridge based stuff. I'm sure untested wii, wii-u,. Switch etc don't work.
Really excited to see the Master System video! I own two, one is crapped out, the one I bought as a kid has so-so power input but works. Watching your vids has made me feel way more comfortable witn the idea of opening these many systems and games I have and repairing them as needed; the fact I have some soldering experience has me looking at a lot of this thinking "hey, I can do that!" Your content is fantastic for that!
Dude...I look at ebay every day and I do not EVER see the things in your thumbnail
Because they are bought within seconds of hitting the site. Sometimes even by bots. You need to be very quick.
When you do ps2, can you please go over the AV port as i have three of them that are loose or rust has gotten to the pins.
How can someone not open these treasure chests for such a long time? Cant wait to see testing and fixing 😊
Excited for the Nomad repair. I have one where that power adaptor power needs to be replaced cause it only works when you bend the cable a certain way.
The Saturn 3D control pad was my all-time favorite controller. I remember when I got my Dreamcast 9-9-99 being disappointed how much smaller it was and it having fewer buttons. The analog stick is great for driving games.
Do you remember " littlest hobo" and "due south" tv series? Those were my favorite tv series. I am from Latvia and we had a lot of Canadian tv series back in the day. I re-watch them and have a lot of nostalgia ;)
I've never seen it, but I think the littlest hobo filmed near my hometown years ago.
I repairs my plasma TV. I'm so happy 😊😁 best looking TV for older consoles... I did a wideo. Chex it out
Kinda jealous over all the Saturn 3D control pads lol
This is exactly what I need during quarantine. Can’t wait for more!! Keep the vids coming bro
I hope that you can fix the controller that's smastted and can't sly.
Love seeing 5th and 6th gen consoles being appreciated
Keep up the good work Sir!
Anecdotally, the inside of my Master System looks like that as well (the browning). Just cleaned out the dust rabbits and it works just fine.
So, for the Crystal cart, Most Pokemon games, minus Yellow, share the same board. Sometimes you can get a Red, Blue, Gold, or Silver rather cheap. It would be nice to see that Crystal get revived.
Can i send you my broken console for a repair attempt? I can pay for shipping and everything... you can use it to make a video too.
I would be willing to bet the nomad's issue is the caps because it took a few power cycles to start and had other issues once it booted
Ah I don't know what it is. But most master systems I run into are dead. Unlike the Genesis or Genesis 2. Then you have a game gear with bad / leaky caps galore.
Did u cut the bottom of that xbox? Its probly not worth much but u should shorten that box cutter bro. Love the vid, love the channel, love the kona 👍 keep it up. 😁
Ps2s arent terriblely difficult to take apart and repair most common problem is the laser going out which is usually why it wont read the disc
For Pokemon Crystal I'd recommend just picking up a Japanese copy. They go for way less than the English version and it would be an easy chip swap. Plus they have the custom backing for the transparent shell.
You can’t swap the chips using a Japanese board, as it is different. I have previously done a chip swap with a Pokémon crystal game. You need to use a game called Trade and Battle: Card hero. It uses an identical board to Crystal.
@@calvo131 How is it different? they use the same MBC chip and have RTC enabled.
Is there maybe a market for new bare Gameboy pcb? I know for some consoles they are available. Also they cant be to complicated to do on your own and Chinese pcb services are cheap.
@@thomasoo5726 I could design one in Eagle but its too much work. I could just buy a Japanese copy of Pokemon crystal, which by the way would actually work since I've done it.
Even when you makes a PCB you still need an MBC chip which I think we're proprietary
@@cyo_corner Why you need an MBC chip, i meant to swap of every IC so MBC chip is used from the rotten pcb? I do not know how expensive a Japanese copy is but i hate to destroy somthing working ^^
10 pcb are 2$ plus shipping, maybe an idea for a collaboration with other RUclipsrs or sponsored, JLC is everywhere with sponsoring anyway.
Dog checks the nomad "yep chief, problem on the screen". Maybe is just the brightness wheel and not the screen
:D
dam thats alot of "junk" 😉
Just open RUclips to watch something good. Nice.
Hey Adam, was wondering if you could take a look at my gameboy cartridge.
"Just a bunch of boxes that I found in my house" LUL I love you, Adam
That sega nomad is dope
Sadly it's still cheaper to ship to the USA than it is to ship Canada to Canada, Gotta love Canada Post politics, On average, say a package sent to the USA will cost 12CAD but if i send that same package to NB which is only the next Provence over, that same package will cost 24$CAD and its pretty much the plus or minus the same cost to ship to the other provinces in Canada.
Yep, it sucks bigtime.
9:12 Kona 💕
It nice to see a fellow Canadian . Support from the east coast . Stay safe
The screen might work just fine in the Nomad with the broken contrast wheel. If the wheel is completely missing, you won't see anything on the screen. Not that the screen on the Nomad is all that great...
Great video as always! BTW, at about 11:30 on the video I believe it reads "Smashed, can't play" or something like that... or referring to the XYZ buttons, dunno. But it definitely says "smashed" so not sure what it's referring to.
I think the 3d Saturn controllers came out in 1997
Ps2 repair is simple it's a laser or board problem
I had a busted us pokemon crystal and i just swapped the rom chip onto a Japanese board. Works fantastic
Also, would you be interested in a psone? Had issues with no audio or video.
I Subscribed! soldering habbits
You had a broken Pokemon Crystal rotting in your attic? For how many years!?
that Xbox I bet has a sticky disc drive. Most common problem with the original. I bought 3 of them and they all had the same issue, one was modded so that was cool. if I find them I'll send them to you. One i got working the other 2 were just a nightmare.
I'm pretty sure I emptied the disc drive before shipping. But now I'm kinda questioning myself now.
Ha, i once found a gradius disc in a ps1, which is just laziness as that doesn't even have a slidenout tray like the xbox or ps2
8:25 The original Nintendo Switch
Hello there! Again, what a great video!!! That master system is amazing, I really really wanna see a video with that one! I always wanted one for me but here in Portugal it was not selling that model, only the II. Btw, I have something that I wanna give u to try to fix it, how can I contact you? Yeah I'm from really far away but I'm a huge fan :) thank you!
I think your biggest problem is going to be finding isopropyl alcohol :/
Yep, I'm running very low and none at any of the drug stores nearby
7805s on master system then vram
Nice haul of stuff there, I'd nearly put money on there being a dying/dead cap in that Nomad the way the LED flashed when you turned it on. Also if the Master System doesn't work when you first plug it in and turn it on check the voltage regulator first, most common cause of failure when they don't power on.
if we have an item that needs to be fixed but you dont have a video on it how do we go about suggesting it?
Just leave a comment, I'll keep an eye out for similar issues. No guarantee I'll get it though
Looks to me like someone was doing a closet cleanup and decided what the hell I can find a sucker on ebay to buy this junk.
Why is he a "sucker"? Its a hobby! Is a car mechanic a sucker if he buys a beat up old rusty car and wants to restore it?
Love the vids keep up the good work man
The first Nomad with the broken wheel the cartridge wasn't in correctly. It was tilted on the right side. Probably not a bad cartridge slot.
There is a contact tape product which can replace those missing Gameboy card edge pins.
Great vid and the Saturn 3d controller come out with nights into dreams and the switch at the bottom is for d pad or analog 😏
Sega nomad needs new capacitors.
Many intereting junk for fixing.
I have a question I have a PlayStation 1 and the rest button does not work what do you think is wrong with it
Sometimes the actual switches themselves get dirty and stop working
RetroRepairs thanks for telling me
I wish I just found random unopened boxes of Ebay Junk around my house
Where's the "*Fixing*" part, did I miss something?
He usually just shows what he has bough from ebay, then fixes it in later videos. The series is just called "Fixing Ebay Junk."
Yup, like Zach said, it's a series monicker... consider this an intro video to the later vids on these items.
Should be called Just unboxing
Did u think he was fixing ebays mail day junk? Come on 🙄
@@andrevarnava6115 clickbait title then
I just checked ebay. Nomad prices have skyrocketed! My last one I paid $80 for and sent it to someone to have a new screen installed for $50. Wish I hadn't got rid of it. I want another one.
Noticed that. Might be a quarantine effect with everyone inside. Gba sp same thing. Should go down during the summer.
i would be shaking of happiness unboxing all these games and accesories
Always look forward to these. Theres something soothing about stuff being repaired.
Shipping is such BS to here. It honestly makes me so angry
PS I want that Nomad!!!
Try living in Australia. It’s pointless me ordering stuff from the us, especially when I’m paying on average 4x shipping than what the item is worth
@@calvo131 I've tried ordering from Australia so I know the pain :( plus side I've gotten a few things free cuz they arrived an eternity after I got a refund
Riley K I tried ordering a component for a console from the US, it was going to cost me $20 for the component, and $150 for postage. It was just cheaper and easier to buy a whole working console.
That's because people don't know how to use the shipping options on eBay. Lately it's gotten even worse with eBay pushing their own overpriced postal program. Contact the USA seller and ask them to ship first class international. That is the cheapest option for anything under 4 lbs. Anything over 4lbs is generally not worth it.
Op of the final package. Hehe ye opened it upside down. Good luck mate. Might send a smaller package after this whole shutdown is over with :)
I did it upside down as I didnt want to have either of our addresses broadcasted to the world. Thanks again
@@RetroRepairs I have an N64 that doesn't work. Can I send it to you? And how?
2:41 - "These take a lot of abuse going in and out"
That's what she said 😏
The sega nomad has bad capacitors, replacing it will fix it.
Do you have a reasonably priced Sega Saturn that is in good condition? I’d definitely be interested if you do. Where can I see your inventory?
No, i don't have anything for sale
wow, i've never seen those circular saturn controllers before.
Blown cap sniffing dog
If you ever plan on selling that nomad with broken screen i will take it, message me, that thing is not around in Europe
I am planning on replacing the screen with a modern screen. Since ive got two and handhelds are reasonable to ship, I may sell one
@@RetroRepairs well give me a shout, i will take any of them, broken or working, the prices on them are unreasonable
If you've got Twitter, follow me, repairs_retro.
Im going to be working on some handhelds soon, and if I do sell them, I'll probably start by posting them there if I don't sell locally
Explendid, thanks lad
so we will see you again in 2021
As long as the virus doesn't get me
I wish I was like you. I love fixing broken consoles, its so rewarding.
Sega Saturn came out in America in 95 the dreamcast came out in 98
I was talking specifically about the 3dcontroller. Curious if it came out later in the life cycle when the DC was already in development
@@RetroRepairs The 3D controller came was released sometime in 1996. The 3D controller was packed with copies of NiGHTS into DREAM and was produced with the 3d controller in mind specifically. The 3D controller was released at the same time as the Nintendo 64 was released. Dreamcast was then released 2 years after the Saturn 3d controller. So the answer would be no as the Dreamcast was in development in late 1997 early 1998 and then released mid to late 1998. However, the 3d controller was competing again the ergonomics of the N64 controller and the 3D of N64
www.digitalgamemuseum.org/consolecontrollerevolution/analog/saturn3d/ talks about n64 controller and how it was going against the Saturn 3D controller
They wouldn't even bother putting the screws back in. Lazy.
Yeah I lost all the screws for all those systems. :p
Hi kona
Great videos man very informative. I have a Goldeneye N64 with a broken pin that traces up to a black chip on the left of the circuit board(rom?). Is it possible to repair a broken pin with a jumper wire(s) being that those pins will be going in & out of the console? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
You wouldn't be able to use a wire, it wouldn't stay and would damage your system. You might be able to find some kind of durable adhesive and adhere a thin copper strip to replace the pin, but i don't have any recommendations for that.
@@RetroRepairs I tried super glue to glue a thin piece of copper to the board but it melted as soon as I passed over with the soldering iron. I did manage to solder a few wires and then go over the whole piece with solder, but there is sort of a bulge now. I put in console and it works now so it might work as a temporary solution for now. I'll look into that adhesive and maybe try a more permanent solution in the future. Thanks for the help man. Stay safe & healthy
You'll need something heat resistant.
Hope lockdown is going well for you pal 🙃
I need that TG16 controller! Oh, thanks for this. I find this soothing during this time.
The 5200 is my favorite console. I saw one in the background. I rebuild the sticks. I've done over a hundred of them.
Where do you get replacement flex cables from? I've found one seller on Ebay, but shipping to Canada is too expensive and they won't send them uninsured in case they get lost. Very frustrating as ive got 3 bad controllers, but im not willing to spend $50 each to fix them
@@RetroRepairs When you pay me $50, you're getting far more than a flex cable. Your button's carbon is likely broken down, and will cease to function. I replace the boot using the right tool to disconnect the knob from the top half of the body. There's a bunch of other stuff.
Best Electronics is where parts are sold. I think they have a $20 minimum, but I don't know if they will insist on giving insurance if they ship internationally.
Yeah i know about the full refurb kits. But $20 shipping on a $7 flex connector then add 40% for exchange is tough to swallow
Sega Nomad wow mustve been expensive
cant wait to see him fixing all
i got a few xboxes and ps2s i need to fix and sell
The first system I tore apart was my ps2.
hey man just so you know, samsungs have bad blurry tubes, please get a better crt. jvc d series very good and look into RGB modding it.
...(no offense) you really know nothing about technology, do you? Lol. JVC is about as bad as they get. All the pros who test things, play casually, and speedrun use either Sony Trinitrons or Samsung TVs... occasionally even DAEWOO TVs.
Your hands make wonders
You have the gift to fix every kind of consoles and cartridges and controllers
