- Exploring a Boat & Marine Salvage Yard | Abandoned Boat Graveyard
In this video I explore Lanier Marine Liquidators in Dowsonville Ga. I went to try and find parts for my 150 evinrude, however I was quickly intrigued and had to explore the whole place. I will go again and try to get more footage inside these old boats.

18:19 That old Hydra Sports is sweet, I love bass boats! That’s sad that was a bad ass bass boat at one time!
Thanks for the comment. It was fun making this video!
That old wooden/fiberglass boat you called a "Crownline" maybe, was a Chris Craft Cavalier from the '60s. If you owned one of those back then, I would assume you were higher than middleclass, although they made them in several sizes.
Thanks! There are several boats that I imagined new in their glory. And yes, those owners had some extra income in the day for sure! Thanks for the comment.
Very nice video. At 18:47 there was a closed bow speed boat on the right. Looks like a checkmate eluder. If you do go back I would be very thankful if you could video as much of it as you can. I would love to restore one. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment. I will if I go back.
you can get sea sick because the camera NEVER stops moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. Thanks!
@@bobbygfl Yeah, I had to stop watching and it was really interesting but I got queasy with the constant movement. Try just standing still.....slow pans help too. Shame, because it was fascinating but I just couldn;t watch any longer
The 2 cars you mentioned the blue one is a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 with a 350 rocket motor. worth a shitload of money. the other is a fox body mustang
i wondered if they were worth anything, thanks for the comment
Enjoyed the video a lot of nice boats you skipped over. Didn't see many flat ski boats.
Thanks! We are just so many one of these days I’ll go back.
The car looked a bit like the front of an Olds Cutlass.
It did. Thanks for the comment
!969ish.....
That blue car is an old Oldsmobile there worth a pretty good amount
Thanks for the comment!!
19:46, that is a late 60's early 70's Oldsmobile.
Thanks!
1970 to 72
DIOS mio quiero ir ha ese lugar 🤗🤗 por fabor
Soy adicto ha los voté quiero de paseó ese lugar tan hermoso
Thanks!
Junk yards around Annapolis are way better . Every marina has old Chriscraft large yachts just looking for Samson’s ponytail. Old Haterous,s too. Sailboats everywhere for free. There’s a big rinker a 388 something like that. That needs fixed up . I bet you could get it for 5 to ten grand they go for 60 grand
If I’m ever in that area I will for sure check it out thanks for the comment
when you were talking about your motor, do you mean that you bought the one that was there and fixed it up? or was it the same model as the one you had? or was it one you sold to them some time ago?
Same model as the one there. If you check out some of my videos in my boat playlist you’ll see it. Great motor!
@@bobbygfl I have a 88 175 HP Yamaha...would love to find one not all salted up to rebuild with my old one..This location is unique in the sense some salvage saw just fresh water..That old crab boat looked like Gloucester was it's home port..Her grave yard is a thousand miles from home..If they could tell their story....Did they have power heads in those trailers?specifically yamaha's
Assalamualaikum bg saya dari indonesia,mf kalau mau tanya harga kapal seken ini berapa dan keadaan nya,dan ada tidak kapal buat nelayan cari ikan, mohon tolong di ouplot video nya bg
Ok! Next time I’m there
Da noi in Italia non esiste un luogo con barche abbandonate
Thanks
slow your pan please
I’m working on that. Thank you!
Your video is making me seasick.
Yeah it was just hand held on my cell phone
Should learn to control your camera
Agreed. The comments have me doing a better job of that. Thanks!
This is a marine junkyard and it is evident that most of the boats are beyond salvage and resale. It was really sad to see the wood Chris Craft Constellation and 37 ft Egg Harbor falling apart. If they moved the 10% of good boats to another location and fixed them up they might have a going business. I fear that someone will inherit a mess to clean up.
I totally agree some of the post there are just junk. I don’t see them going out of business anytime soon though it is a thriving business for sure
I had the same thought. Most of the hulls are beyond restoring. Most of the motors would have to be scrapped.
I’ve been there, all those wood boats were in half decent shape when they got there. The boat in the beginning was a WWII era Captain’s Gig.
also, just going and walking around in a place like this is like one of my most desired things to do, i just love looking at old stuff and abandoned stuff, and like you were saying about finding items left by the owners, that stuff just fascinates me
It was awesome! Check out my bowling alley video on my exploring play list. That was very cool also.
Slow down the camera side to side motion. I got seasick already at 3:15 into this
Thanks for the feedback I do need to work on that
I had to stop watching. Great content, but totally made me motion sick from the camera work.
It reminds me we are such a throw away society. Some poor kid is dreaming of a boat he can't afford and these probably had lots of life left when they were discarded.
Yes, it really is sad. Some of them look like most of the decay and damage has been happening since they’ve been sitting there.
It would be appreciated if you hold the camera a bit more steady please, I am getting dizzy watching
Thanks for the tip I appreciate that. This was kind of impromptu. I do need to do a better job of that.
@@bobbygfl If you have the money you can buy gyros which are a hand held device you connect your camera to, it keeps the camera steady, also go pro is very stable as a body cam or head cam, all Vloggers use these devices now
At the 18:45 mark there is a blue/white Checkmate. I went yesterday, after verifying it was still there, and put a deposit on it. He said it will take several days to pull it out. 1979 Enchanter
That’s awesome! Glad the video helped.
@@bobbygfl Born Again Boating also turned the salvage yard last year and he showed it, as well. I’ve been up there twice and looked at it. I appreciate it.
exactly how many beers did you have before deciding to go walkabout in the boat yard, i was completly hammered by the time you finished. camera must have been strapped to your leg........cheers!
Lmao. Sorry! I’ve worked on that. My junk yard video a few weeks ago is way better.
Very interesting, but please slow down swinging your camera around, I'm getting seasick
We appreciate your efforts, but can you please study a bit on videography? Slow down the left/right, up/down motions. You will be well monitized if you return here with a better camera and better shooting technique! Not a rant, just friendly advice that will make you more $$$s in the future.
thanks!
Definitely appreciate the effort here but never been made so motion sick from a video.
@@neonnoodle1169 thanks for the comment. Sorry about the motion.
The camera man should move the camera a little slower.
Thanks. I’ve been working on this.
The first car was an Olds Cutlass probably '69. You didn't show its badges, could have been a 442. If so that's over a $100k car restored. It looked to have a V8, so maybe.
Wow. That’s incredible. If I go back, I will definitely see if it’s still there.
Thanks! I’ve been curious about that place for decades! But now I want to go buy a junk sailboat and a trailer!
Thanks!
I Don't understand the purpose of keeping so much fiberglass pirces of junk. The larger hulls sure, but yhe 12-18 footers
It does seem like a strange business. But fun to explore!
Olá a todos , gostaria de saber se tem como enviar um Barco desse aqui para o Brasil e quanto me custaria , so louco para reforma uma coisa linda dessa 👍
Thanks! Good luck!
Por favor, qual procedimento devo fazer pra isso acontecer ?? 🇧🇷👍
Keep the dam camera steady, litterly making me sick watching.
Sorry!
Me and my buddy bought a aluminum hull 1992 Crestliner with 115 Suzuki, with trailer … we restored it back 2010-11, that first season we ran as is, rotten wood flying off did not knock the smiles off our faces, that off season, we disassembled the carpet covered deck panels an used as patterns for cutting replacements, painted silver, red and black numbering, black Bimini, gray and red seats, red piping replaced all the rotten wood with marine grade, even splurged on some mahogany side panel marine grade that we stained… I describe it as the “Ricky Bobby Special”, once we got her back together, stop at QT to top off, inevitable that some dude with a southern accent would say “Damn nice lookin boat you got there… ; ) So there are gems to found there
That’s an awesome story and sounds like a lot of fun. Ricky, Bobby special lol. Thanks for the comment.
Wood boats will eventually rot away and become part of the earth again, possibly as trees
Yep. Not fiberglass
The yard of broken dreams!
At one time all this was brand new and cherished by owners, now its languishing on the ground.
How refreshing to hear that the visitor is responsible for not falling or killing themselves, and that personal responsibility is alive and flourishing.
Lol right! Signed waiver!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. What struck me was there were plenty of speedboats, but no whalers. Some workboats that were ancient and a few yachts. I will need at some point to replace an elderly Honda long shaft outboard and can see that this is the place to go to get a replacement without breaking the bank.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm thinking about finding a boat to restore maybe to keep or sell
Great project idea!
Well, if you need a windshield, bow rail, exhaust manifold or gear case
Right!
Tri-Hulls are absolutely the roughest riding boats I've ever been in & owned,I had a Colbalt,a BEAUTIFUL boat but for floating around or on a lake like Cumberland or DaleHallow
Agreed!
Yep, a friend had a tri-hull, a kidney buster on a busy waterway. He happily sold it.
What is the purpose of this place? Th hulls aren't sellable and the engines and not maintained.
Some of the hulls are in a condition where somebody may want to make a project boat out of one. Mostly people by pieces. Some unique molded part that you would have to make yourself if you were not able to cut it out of one of these boats. Also, as far as the engines, there is a lot of useful parts that are no longer made. It really need to know specifically what you’re looking for and that would make the trip worth it. I’m with you though. The land must be family land that’s costing them nothing other than taxes and most of what they have they likely picked up for free. Taxes and payroll is likely their only overhead.
A blight on the landscape. When the owners dies who gets left with having to clean that nightmare up? Most likely the taxpayer.
This place has to make a fortune. My bed has kids take it over or somebody buys it. They have a pretty big Internet business going out of this place also.
Jezzz buy a Gimbal, could only watch about 1-2 mins !
Working on that. Thanks
I’d love to rebuild one of these boats 😢
Me too!
DO THE PONTOON BOATS OR HOUSE BOATS SCARE YOU ? YOU TOTALLY IGNORED ALL OF THEM
That’s funny, I never noticed that. I guess I’ve just never had one so I focused on the regular hulls
How much I’m should to pay for them??? Thanks
No idea. All different prices
Why would a pontoon boat ever rnd up in a junkyard?
Likely scraped for the aluminum.
yea..go back an check out the 2455 ciera bayliner..looks to be a 89..got the same boat..
nice! thanks
late 70s early 80s datsun 280z and late 60s early 70s oldsmobile cutlass supreme
Totally random right LOL. I wonder the history on those cars
what is going to happen with all those Fiberglass hulls?
At some point they grind them up and I assume use as land fill. Not sure what happens after grinding.
Good afternoon, do youhave an eletric motor, With pedal or wirelles? If so, coud you tell me how many pounds and how much? Tanks.
no i'm sorry
A boat motor is very very very expensive. The controls are about half as expensive so a lot of people are throwing away good things .Two stroke engines are very dependable but they are not COOL looking.
Agreed!
The boat in the beginning wasn’t a fishing boat, it was a Admiral’s launch or Captain’s Gig from the WWII era. They were used to go from ship to shore.
That’s good to know. Thanks!
Wow. Thank you! Very cool
Alot of boats ended up in there years ago when Lake Lanier dropped to really low levels...many Atlanta lake goers ended up with "waterfront property" that was high and dry...
Good to know! Thanks!
That's an Oldsmobile...circa 1969 . Made in Lansing, Michigan. Model, not sure. Cutlass Supreme?
Thanks!
I just finished up going through my 1998 johnny 150 OIS running like a top now.
Awesome! Thanks for the comment!
9:57 I would buy and restore that old Ranger,it’s a classic,,Ranger sells a boat like this now,I think it’s called a Ranger classic, it’s so cool just like this one!
If I lived in the area, and it was easy to get the boat out, I would, for sure turn something into a project from this place
How businesses get away with trashing an environment like that is ridiculous. I have been to many a salvage yard which were really salvage yards, and not just a junk pile like this, Ninety percent were organized and maintained in a way that was safe and not a disaster like this. What a waist.
Well, I don’t know how they’re hurting the environment nothing is leaching into the ground. I did find some hard to find parts. I’m glad places like this exist. Otherwise, these boats would be chopped up and in a land fill. At least here they have a chance of providing nearly impossible to get parts.
That blue car is a oldsmobile. Don't think it's a 442 but who knows it might be a 442. Don't know if anyone cares but the 442 means the car has a 4 barrel carburetor a 4 speed transmission and dual exhaust 442
Thanks! I didn’t know any of that.
Did you run across an old Checkmate ?
Not that I recall
Wow my God good
Thanks!
At 24:21 there's a ladder leaning against the hull of the houseboat, not sure if it would have been tall enough but there's one there
I missed it! Good thing provably lol
19:59 That’s a Oldsmobile Cutlass, it is worth good money, looks to be in good shape, someone’s gotta buy that and get it outta that mess!
Very cool!
When the ownership or management runs across your video and the repeated use of the description sketchy I can guarantee you will never get back in there
They are a great family and don’t mind at all. Thanks for the comment!
Hey,do these boats are for sale?
Everything you see in this place is for sale
All the stories the boats could tell. Cool place to visit. Former USCG.
It’s very cool to walk around. Kids life vests, coolers with probably a hundred boating days. One boat had a bunch of hair clips in the glove box. Thanks for the comment.
Disposal of fiberglass is a problem or to be more correct disposal of the resin impregnated fiberglass is the problem.
agreed! Please consider subscribing :)
😮wow! Thanks for sharing!
You bet
also, do you by any chance know how much it would cost to buy a small boat for a project boat? im interested in doing one of those in the future, but im still in college, thus my funds are limited and no place to store one, so it would be in a couple years
You could probably get one for free! People are trying to get rid of project boats all the time. Free to whoever comes and gets it.
هل هناك أى تفاصيل للبيع
No. It’s all first come first serve.
I always think to myself when is the last time someone did maintenance or fixed something on one of these wrecks,
Me too!
Stop shaking that Ferken camera!
Sorry!
@@bobbygfl just being a wise guy dude I'm sorry
It’s OK lol I really do try to keep the camera still when I’m walking around exploring. You’re not the only one that has mentioned it. I’m sure it’s very annoying.
You could have showed us some boats that could actually be repaired instead of showing us a bunch of garbage
It was just a walk through the place
That was a buick skylark
I wish I knew that I would’ve made a cousin Vinny reference lol
is this guy for real???
thanks for the comment!
Junkyard exactly, nothing worth rebuilding here !
Agreed, saw nothing I’d invest in. I’d say the big value is if you had the same boat and you needed a trim piece or some oddball molded fiberglass hatch this would be your place.
First off can someone go in and build a vessel there then pay ? I saw 1 aluminum boat and 6 pontoon boats with the rest being fiberglass and wood ! There’s a few in there I could and would restore, mainly cuddies with births ! I could see me grabbing a boat finding a nice trailer with good tires and scavenging for parts for that boat and pulling out with a complete vessel ! It may take a week of working on it but what a blast it would be ! Lol . I wonder if they would let you do it ??????
Probably not. Best thing to do is find the boat you want and measure it. Then come with your own trailer. Or measure one of theirs. If you buy a trailer from thier bring tires and a tail light kit with magnetic lights. Load it up. Pay. And get out. You dont want to spend alot of time in places like that. People tend to act more and more strange as the days go by. I plan on buying a boat from there. But I'm bringing my own trailer. I plan on pulling out with it in no less than 4 hours if things go well. I'll come back for parts I need on other days. It's best to work on projects at home to keep your investment safe.
there's no way they would let you set up shop there. it's basically a you pick it yard.
@@bobbygfl kinda figured that’s the way but ya never know , they let video people film will it run type at auto salvage yards sometimes !
please go back here wanna see more
Thanks!
Damn. I’d snag up that whaler. Whalers down here in Florida are fetching a pretty penny
There are a lot of boats in there that with a reasonable amount of work would be on the water in no time. Thanks for the common
Anywhere
Where you base?
?
Lots of classic Detroit diesel on that 1945 boat
Crazy!
Looks like a future superfund cleanup site.
Lol

I would be in heaven & spend hours in an old boatyard
It is pretty cool

How close/far to/from Savannah?
BTW...I gave it a thumbs up, before I even watched it, based on your previous video. ;-)
Closer to Knoxville, TN than Savannah.
Thanks!! It’s a hall from Savannah. Three hours maybe
Thank you! Love the screen name. 80’s rock!
@@bobbygfl Thanks...I was a professional gymnast, worked with World Champion Kurt Thomas in shows in Sea World. He sadly passed last year. I "borrowed" the name from his license plate on his Porsche 928.

3:18 the chunkly cat lol
Lol!
It’s an old cutless
It’s an olds cutless
thanks!
Did you find any fishing boat?
Not really. They are all cruiser style it seems.
the big problem with all these boats, they are all fiberglass, will be around another 100 years or more, another contribution to global pollution
Yep
Next time, pan slower - makes me dizzy.
Thanks for the feedback. I have been much slower on my more recent videos.
If you find a boat you want can you buy it?
If you can buy it do you need your own trailer or they can sell you one?
Yes you can buy any boat here and you would need to trailer it or flatbed it away they will put it on a trailer or put it on a flatbed for you but I do not believe they deliver.
Oh and I don’t think they sell trailers
