    I own a Ruger Mark IV Hunter and I love mine. I've had it for 2 years and it's flawless. I always thought rimfires were unreliable from my own experiences when I was younger. CCI Mini Mag is only ammo I shoot through it and that combination has never even had a misfire. I never thought I'd pay over $700 for a .22 LR pistol but I did and it was well worth the money.

      I don't have a qlue on his lack of trust in the mark platforms. Most pistols will loosen screws when being used. Those Ruger standards or marks are simply a legend .

    If you buy a Big Game (375H&H and up) rifle for Dangerous Game, it should come with express sights. The rear sight on that life saving piece of equipment will have the same wide V notch as the Ruger Mark IV Hunter. The wide V makes the sighting very fast, something a hunter would appreciate. If all you ever shoot is paper, buy the target model that has target sights. This is the Hunter model. I like the way the rear sight is set up.

    I have 3 Ruger pistols and haven't had any issues with them. I have a Mark II (50th year (1999) special anniversary model that doesn't get shot much), a Single Six revolver (w/ the .22 mag cylinder, too) in stainless that you'd love to hunt with, and their 1979 Security Six .357 mag (with "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty" stamped on the frame). I bought them all new. The 2 revolvers have been shot a lot. I think your observations are all good ones and people should pay attention to them. Thanks for this frank review, Jacob, well done!

      I grew up with Rugers, and they were always fantastic. I think in about the last decade or less is when Ruger has really been choking on qc, and having shooters return their guns for work, banking on shelf guns to keep them afloat and keep costs down. I could be wrong.

    I like both sides of your review. Doesn't fit you, may be perfect for others. I like the gun. Shot a few different ones. It's a .22 though. Rather not carry .22 rifle over the shoulder sometimes. Easy to keep tight. These guns are accurate. Great for small game.

    You want a baby rattle that comes loose after every 100 rounds, even with Loctite, get an SW22.
    Loctite is something you keep on the bench whether it's for your AR15 or MK pistol. Loctite doesn't seem to work on the SW22s, the SW22 it a rattly POS that shoots very well. Unfortunately I sold mine because of that, it's tendency to come loose no matter what. The good thing about Ruger MKs is the take-down is not held together by a main screw like the SW22. Using Loctite on sight screws and grip screws is very common. No valid argument if you're main complaint is having to use "Loctite". I will complain about having to use Loctite on a SW22 with no positive results. Happy shooting, buddy!

    Bought a MKIV 22/45 lite in 2019 a MKIV target 5.5’ bull barrel in 2022 and the 75 anniversary MKIV just 3 months ago. Thousands or rounds down range with absolutely zero issues. Sorry to hear about you bad experience, but I also own Browning, and a smith and Wesson model 41. I’ll stick with my Rutgers.

    The Standard has an aluminum frame. My Mark 2 and Mark 3 have great triggers. I have purchased 14 Ruger firearms over the past 35 years and I go to the range at least twice a month and shoot plenty of ammo. A few years ago I had trouble with a LC9s Pro. I sent it in, they fix it and had it back to me in 7 days. Never had anymore issues. Just sell the gun and move on.

    Thanks for the vid. I will still be getting one for the range and like most firearms I own that dont have lock screws I'll lock tight any that come loose. I sure would not buy that pistol to hike around with, weight is everything. Love the quick take down as cleaning is everything on .22s. Appreciate the time given on the vid. Cheers.

    I love my Ruger MKIV Tactical. It would definitely be a part of my bug out bag. Fit and finish is fantastic. Redundant sighting when you add CT laser to lower rail and/or red dot to top rail. Threaded barrel ready for your suppressor. ambi safety. easy takedown. Accurate. Reliable. I've had no issues with anything loosening up. It is heavy but it feels very sturdy and...authiritative. It feels like a serious handgun. again, fit and finish is fantastic. I also like the spring loaded mag eject feature. Nice touch. I have hunted with it. It takes out small game just fine. with suppressor attached, it's very quiet and nobody hears you taking game in the middle of the night. I really like this gun a lot. I have a couple MKIII 22/45s and an older MKII and this is my favorite. I wouldn't give this gun up.
    what I don't like? The sights should be night sights. The trigger could be better but it's OK. Crimson trace doesn't make a laser grip for it yet. Not Ruger's fault. But still, I would like green laser grips so I could put a light on the lower rail. It is heavy. There's no denying it but the weight, as I said, gives it a certain air of authority and I don't think I would trade the aluminum frame in for polymer.

    Anecdotally; I bought a 10/22 about 5 years ago now, owned one before that, both have been pretty flawless for me. I am seriously considering a Ruger Mark IV Lite because a buddy of mine has one, which I've fired and he's had zero issues with it (he just got his can for it and it makes me want one even more). I do hear that there might be some QA issues with Ruger lately though, which worries me... I've put thousands of rounds through mine and so far so good, so I guess everyone's mileage may vary.

    • @Fedaykin8
      @Fedaykin8 6 лет назад +1

      With regard to screws coming out... I'm of two minds. Yeah it's annoying, but I'm not sure that I mind having to go through and putting blue locktite on things myself. I might even prefer it. I don't know, it hasn't be a huge issue for me personally, and it's such an easy "fix". I'd be more upset/worried if it were some really bad design flaw, poor machining, etc.

    • @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors
      @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      My problems in the past with Ruger have been bad flaws and machining, this one just loosing screws was just the straw that broke the camels back. But with 10/22s Ruger has been solid for... forever, and Idk, getting a Lite would probably be g2g, Im sure Ruger has sorted some stuff out, but man its just too hard for me to trust the brand anymore after 3 consecutive issues. As for the screws, do you redo the screws on all the guns you buy as soon as you buy them?

    • @Fedaykin8
      @Fedaykin8 6 лет назад

      Yeah I can definitely see how, after so many negative experiences not wanting to continue to do business... I've had the same issues with Sig lately. Funny you should ask about screws... my latest purchase was a CZ and while typically CZ is rock solid with quality and QA, I had issues with the handle scale screws being poor, so I had to fix threads, and do some reshaping of the heads. They ended up being fine, but CZ also sent me replacements no questions asked... but no, typically I don't do that, or expect that I'd need to. Maybe after a few thousand rounds and regular use I can see screws backing out, but not virtually immediately for certain. Seems like some companies that have typically been really good for whatever reason need help with QA...

    I love my Ruger MK II Target Competition Model but it’s just been a range gun and there’s no telling how old it is, Ruger might have been a totally different company back then. I’ll try one of their light weight models one day to help get the youngins into Steel Challenge with. The one I have is definitely too heavy for speed shooting, maybe bullseye...

    Mine rattles apart some as well. The front sight and grips get loose generally. To me it seems like it's due to temperature change usually but I could be wrong. And the rear sight being a v notch sucks I agree. But otherwise this thing shoots amazingly after 1000 rounds for me

    Ive been buying Ruger firearms for over 30 years. Ive owned almost every model of gun they make at one time or another and never had any issues with any of them. That being said i think that the workmanship on some of their guns has slipped a little since Bill passed on. But they will and do stand behind their firearms better then alot of manufactures out there. If you have an issue contact them and they will fix it. But i agree you shouldnt have to loctite a brand new gun. No excuses for that. If your not happy with the gun i would trade it for an older model like the Mark 2. Yes harder to take apart but they are bomb proof.

      I as well have been buying Ruger firearms for a long time with no issues, as has my dad.My recent experience with a Ruger Mk IV Hunter has been nothing but bad so far though. I bought the pistol about a month ago. Upon mounting a red dot sight, I noticed the mounting holes on top the barrel/receiver were off center causing the optic to lean to the left of the gun. I contacted Ruger and they happily told me to send it back for replacement. About 3 weeks later I received the replacement. This one had been personally built by one of Ruger’s technicians and had been checked, test fired and inspected by himself and a few other workers. After giving the barrel an initial cleaning with just a light coat of oil and checking with a bore light to make sure it was clean, I noticed about 4 scratches 1.5 inches from the muzzle, that wrapped the whole circumstance of the bore. So once again I called Ruger customer support and they had me send pictures of the scratches to the technician that had built the gun. I’m waiting to hear back from him as that was at the very end of their shift. Also, the right wooden grip has a split in it at the very bottom. I honestly am in disbelief that I’ve had even half of these issues with a Ruger.

    I just bought this gun. It is hands down the most accurate .22 pistol I've owned. Almost ruger 1022 accurate. Yes I've had to blue loctite the front sight screw and take down pivot screws. Ruger puts out some great guns and alot of crap too. Stay away from LC or SR anything. The best .22 for your purpose would be a ruger mk4 standard or a ruger bearcat with fixed sights. Less screws and moving parts. Smaller and lighter

    • @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors
      @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors  6 лет назад

      The mk4 standard is still crazy heavy, and there is no way im getting something without adjustable sights. With that being said after multiple guns screwed up by Ruger, i went with a S&W 317 kit gun.

    5 years later and I think the Mark IV has aged quite well. I have a Talo Hunter and it's really the Sportster of the 22LR pistol world. Out of the box it was a tank. With a few upgrades it's my do-it-all - to the point where I'm selling my Victory. I haven't had any of the problems you listed. Sorry if you got an early dud.
    I do agree that it's not a great bugout gun. It's just too big and heavy. The smaller, lighter 22/45 might fit that bill a bit better. Still, I think a Tac/Trainer style 22 would be a more obvious choice.

    • @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors
      @Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors  6 месяцев назад

      I do think that Ruger has a lot more issues with newer released and special editions.
      I can see the value of the pistol if properly made as well.
      The victory is kind of disappointing and I think the pistol is a perfect example of a firearm manufacture doing something half way- putting a product into the market due to the size of that specific market- but not actually caring enough to make it competitive in that market or to stand out. Making it just good enough to get some sales off the counter- but not investing enough time or resources to make it a standout product.

    I think a better " stainless bug out 22lr handgun " would be the 8 shot Ruger SP101 with 4.2" barrel because it's 32% lighter weight and doesn't have any magazines to lose. If you're okay with aluminum, polymer and stainless steel then the 8 shot Ruger LCRx in 22lr with 3" barrel would be the best choice because it's 61% lighter weight.

    You are holding one of the finest pistols ever made and the most accurate. Watch 22Plinkster's review of this pistol. He will tell you how great this pistol is. First off the Hunter pistol needs some weight so that it can be held more steady. To light and your sights will be all over the place. Put the high viz red dot front sight on top of the white post like a lolly pop and you will hit what you are aiming at every time. Second, you are shooting lazy. Watching you shoot the pistol, you are almost laying down on the table like your about to pass out. Stand up and hold your arms out. Your not so old that your going to fall over. It's not the pistol that's bad, it's the shooter! If your going to be lazy, get a rifle and a shooting mat so that you can lay down and possibly take a nap while you are down there. You definitely need to rethink your needs for a bug out bag!! Your clueless to what a proper pistol should be in a bug out bag.

    I'm sad that Ruger has been such a bad experience for you . My old man used to say that it would be a terrible world if we all thought the same so I have to write and say my Ruger Mark 2 has never ever let me down , never caused me any problems after several thousand rounds through it and if I had one gun to put in my bug-out-bag I'd have no hesitation choosing my Mark 2 Competition .. Having owned a Browning Buckmark before I'd have no hesitation in throwing it in the creek and letting it drown .. Wes Martin

    It's hard to take your review seriously, especially when you would even consider this 22LR pistol for a bug out bag.This is a range or plinking gun, not for a bug out bag or as a carry. I have the Mark IV Hunter and not one screw has come loose after 4,000 rounds. I am a big Ruger fan and also have the Vaquero, Single Ten, 1911, Security 9, LCP II, 10/22 and the 10/22 takedown. Ruger makes some of the best firearms, with high quality and a fair price. I've never had a problem with any Ruger and I believe you either have no idea what you are talking about or do not know how to handle a firearm.

      #1- i have other videos of rugers literally terrible quality control that show plenty of issues, and one look at the forums shows i am certainly not alone.
      #2- having a gun with proper quality control says nothing of a companies quality, its the number of ones that are screwed up that is important.
      #3-its hard to take your comment seriously if you cant understand these foundational, basic principles. I believe you either have no idea what you are talking about, or you dont know how to handle a firearm. I assure you as a combat vet, leo officer, and person who takes private professional training, that i both know what i am talking about, and know how to handle a gun lol

      @@davidstepeck2644 i have had 2 10/22's that were flawless, and i come from a ruger family, where everybody buys ruger. My dad has never had an issue. But every Ruger i have bough since like 2011 has had issues, some of them big. When you go to the forums, be it revolver forums, rimfire central, 1911, etc, you will see that a LOT of people have the same issue- which is what defranchised me to them, especially after i FINALLY ordered a lipseys bisley blackhawk sheriff's model and it was just crap.
      So it is what it is at the end of the day. Smith and Wesson isnt a lot better in a lot of categories, a person might have to search to be sure of quality, or they might have to be willing to return their firearm a few times. After my single 10, a blackhawk convertible, the ruger, then the bisley blackhawk, ill never buy another. 4 strikes and your out, i guess i was a slow learner with high hopes.

    Why would someone buy a full size all stainless gun for a bugout bag? You can’t strike out Ruger for that. Shouldve went with aluminum or polymer if you’re worried about weight and corrosion. Yea, screws coming loose is annoying but can be expected. This is like saying I’m not ever buying a Chevy again because I bought a 1 ton gas truck and it doesn’t get good gas mileage. Makes no sense?

    If you don't want a heavy ass gun for bug out then do not buy it... That simple. You can clearly see the weight on the spec sheet when viewing ruger's site www.ruger.com/products/markIVHunter/specSheets/40118.html.... And who has never seen screws back out on guns regardless of caliber? Essentially every gun I own with small sets of screws has issues with screws backing out. (after extensive round count of course). Applying blue locktite would cost how much? Monetarily or time wise I would say it wouldn't be that much of an inconvenience. Given the fact that you are a prepper you should most likely have a bottle of blue locktite laying around anyway lol. Right? I do not mean any trouble or disrespect because I have had my own issues with Rugers myself, but I have also had some issues with others such as NAA, Springfield Armory, Spikes, and even BCM.... All these jokers had to be sent back or had parts issues so all I can say is , shit happens folks.... Long gone are the days where you can just buy something and expect it to work perfectly... Murphey's law I suppose. I just think that if you want something to fit a specific role just do some more research on it. There are many other options that could have fit your needs better than this gun that would have been lighter weight in the same caliber, and hey there is always the option of something other than .22 lr as well.
