Please note several things you need to know. The cockpit has no floor so you need to fabricate one. The large floor window was for carrier operations and was deleted in the RAF version by simply painting over it. On some they were panelled over. The RAF version also deleted the inflation equipment behind the seat. Consult photos to note the struts to be installed behind the seat. The RAF version deleted the hook BUT it also had a completely different tail cone and this will need to be scratch built and not difficult. The kit one is not right for the RAF one. I also made new u/c doors from plasticard as the kits are way too thick. The copyright wording is visible so needs to be sanded off. I also cut out the elevators, ailerons and rudder to add movement. Once all this is done it makes a lovely RAF version but consult your photos. The decals go on great. Good luck.
Thanks for the info, ill try and keep some of these points in mind when i come to build this kit
Did a bit of research and this RAF Buffalo did have floor window. Just search Brewster Buffalo W8243.
@@StanislavSkalski ok thanks I didn't look at this particular plane but the RAF buffalo in general and many dispensed with the window as it served no purpose.
@@ModelMinutes nearly bought this just last friday😊
No cockpit floor? Note part 3
I like this little kit. recently done 3 of them. Both box scheems and a made up one. got another to do a made up desert scheem.
very cool!
Painting with enamels with a good explanation of difference between them and acrylics would be a welcomed piece of information for less experienced modellers. 😊
Great suggestion!
I'll be getting this one. RAF livery would be cool. I previously built a Hobby Boss version in US Navy colors.
Yeah, i did the hobbyboss version too, was ok :)
@@ModelMinutes True, very basic. I think I picked it up at the time as I couldn't find any other Buffalos.
That's a nice small vintage aircraft this Brewster Buffalo very impressive kit build. I'd like this aircraft for me.
yeah it looks fun
I just got this for Christmas and I may tackle it once I’ve finished my airfix fw190d from the 70s
Good luck 🤞🏻
First kit I ever made oh the memories
Nice!
might have to pick this one up, always had a soft spot for the portly Buffalo
update: I did😆
me too :D
Awesome!
Just a good old airfix kit to improve as you want.
very true!
Looks a strait forward kit, nice. I like the old ones. I found four kits this year under the Christmas tree, The Great Western paddle steamer, WW1 mk1 tank, DH Vampire T.11, and a Bond Bug. Got some work to do now.
Awesome! Sounds like you have some fun projects :)
I love this kit and the paint scheme looks really smart. For an old, cheaper kit - I really don't think this has aged too badly at all (especially thanks to the cleaning up of the tooling).
Yes, good points!
@@ModelMinutes probably wishfull thinking on my part but would love to see the Gazelle heli make a comeback as a vintage classic release
I first built the RAF version in the early 1970s. I was very proud of the finish, but the kit was lost to the sands of time. More recently I built the garish USAAF version, which is far too vulgar with its excessive paint scheme. This was a 1990s issue which only came in the American scheme. This is a fun little build, thank you for this.
Thanks for sharing :)
I loved building this kit.
awesome!
What's not to like about a chunky bird at Christmas?
Looks like a nice, quick and (more importantly) fun build in the offing.
yeah, i hope that it is fun and not too serious
I built this one in the mid 70s, and again in the late 90s. Build it OOB and you’ll have fun.
I hope so! :D
I’m sure I remember building this back in the day. It was quite fun as memory serves.
Does Airfix make 1/35 figure kits now, like their former 1/32 figure kits?
They make 1/35 armour, but not figures
This tooling is perhaps slightly older than I am. 😂. A quite good looking kit for its age. Actually my first aircraft kit was a Buffalo, Tamiya's 1/48. I don't remember it exactly, but perhaps it was late 70s or early 80s. I wonder what year the tooling for that particular kit was. It was a fine kit, if I recall it correctly. 😊
I'd like to do the tamiya buffalo in the future at some point :)
@@ModelMinutes When you do, please build the Dutch East Indian version!
Ah, the sweet smell of the old airfix buffalo. I have both matchbox and airfix kits. Love the kit and building it is fun and easy. Price was kind of high but got it anyway. I really want more of these vintage classics. Perhaps a F 86D would be nice.
I wonder what they are planning to do from the vintage range next year :P
Thanks God for the return of the boxes that open from the top, my prayers were answered, the decals seem to be of excellent quality. Vintage line looks like an old man putting on his newest and best clothes.
That's a good way of putting it :)
Like
Thanks!
I can build this kit any day, such a cute buffy little airplane. Also used by the Dutch in the East Indies. ✨👍✨
Very cool!
First scale model I ever bought. Probably late 1960s, and put together with some foul smelling adhesive which wasn't very good.
Was more thrilled with building it, than accuracy!
I built it earlier this year. Always bear in mind it is a 'Vintage Classic' and there is not a lot to go wrong. Some sanding/flash removal is needed and have fun with the cockpit framing... The only glitch was ripping one of the side decals beyond repair. Overall a fun little build of a kit I had overlooked back in the 70s.
I'll keep your points in mind! Thanks :D
This is great Little kit, if you build it you won't be disappointed.
Good to hear!
I got this in the VE Day gift set (2005) very small!
Nice!
Interesting and nice to see. Hope to see the finished kit.
But on the never satisfied side, I would have like to see markings for the Finnish Air Force. They got better use of them than anyone. (but that may have been an issue for sales in some countries that have outlawed swastikas, the Finnish national marking was a blue swastika.)
I think the only reason Airfix went for the schemes they did in this boxing was because they had done them before - but yes, the Finnish insignia could be an issue in some countries
I like your videos. You showcase both the good and the bad and places in between, I've seen you make some kits. And you tend to not drone on for longer than needed :)
Glad you like them!
Needs a little trimming on the fuselage where the rear canopy fits as it's a triangular piece going over a squared off rear deck but a nice little kit and a decent overall fit of parts.
I'll keep an eye out for that
A back basic build of the Brewster Buffalo with enamel paints 🎨 would be awesome
Cool idea!
I recommend you paint the US Navy scheme as it is more interesting and because you’ve got to many planes in RAF camouflage would be nice to see something different scheme wise.
You’d also be able to use the polished metal coat aluminium paint
I’ve already done one in that scheme
@@ModelMinutes wasn’t that the hobby boss one you mad a few yrs back?
yup, i would rather do a different paint scheme on this one @@modelmagic9930
@@ModelMinutes fair enough
This was my first kit I ever built. I can remember paying 20p for it from my local corner shop.
I hope you had fun :D
I think the USN version is pretty cool looking, but might be a longer challenge to complete. Everyone has their version with combat colors- the USN Buffalo is in it's "target" colors... lol.
haha yea :P
It's a great little kit but you do need to scratch build a few bits to get the RAF version right.
Yes, although i might just not bother lol
The closest to an accurate representation is the USN F2A-2, but I think it is best to deliberately ignore the detail differences between the two schemes in this kit. They can be summarised as: different engine (with various distinctions) and propeller, different number of landing lights (but the kit has none so is wrong for both) and of course, a different tail shape (the British ones were pointy). But there were also more differences in the RAF and RN ones as they inherited a different batch from the failed Belgium order. Then there is the minor detail of the nose being a horribly simplified attempt at the actual nose of a Buffalo... It is as about as reasonable a representation of a Buffalo as the Buffalo itself was of a competent aircraft...
Sorry, Matt. I'll get back in my box now. When the subject matter is something I know about it can cause me to foam at the mouth. Please call my nurse...
Good video though!
lol that's ok, it is interesting to hear what needs improving - if I can be bothered :P
Certainly I’d like to see this done in enamels 😊 regards Fred
I'll see what I can do
@@ModelMinutes cheers it’s only I’ve large stash of Humbrol enamels and never seem to use them it might inspire me to get into use
The Hasegawa Buffaloes are much better kits with parts specific to the various versions. (I have three.) But I'm certain you will do this old kit a great deal of justice once built.
thanks :D
🕵️♀️📉
not sure what that means, but ok
🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️😊😊😁🤩❤❤😮
:)
IN 2017, I HAD MADE A BREWSTER BUFFALO OF TAMIYA MODEL IN 1/48 SCALE. IT IS A BUFFALO OF FINNISH AIR FORCE DURING WW2. THEREFORE, ITS MARKING LOGO IS 卍
certain historical symbols are banned in some countries though, which is why those schemes tend to be sourced as aftermarket decals
@@ModelMinutes TO US, 卍 IS NO PROBLEM. 卍 IS ORIGINALLY REPRESENT THE BUDDHISM WHICH IS THE MAIN RELIGION IN EAST ASIA
$20.94 on Amazon today here in the US = NO WAY! 😡
that is expensive
Hornby Hobbies US shop has it for $15
so to be completely honest....this kit has only nostalgic value?
I think there would be some enjoyment in actually building it. Don't forget it comes with high quality cartograph decals, so I could save one of the schemes to use on another kit if i find one
@@ModelMinutes If only fitting is ok it may be nice quick build, this is quite rare object and at the first glance you can only go for Hobby2000 or Hobby Boss version as alternative. Quality decals area always welcome.
Sorry but no all kits can be improved.
One of the worst models ever made.
i've seen much worse
Not within an Admiralty Mile of being the worst 😆🤣
If you haven't already made this build the American aircraft carrier version. Of course both will look good but I like the carrier one.
thanks for the suggestion!
