This video was so enjoyable, Going to have to watch again. I grew up on a farm in SE MO, my dad did everything himself, he planted all kinds of fruit and nut trees, we foraged berries, had a garden, berries & asparagus too. He fixed all his equipment when it needed repairs, he grew up during depression. This video 'took me back' because I remember foraging for dew berries and muskadines. Your puggle is living his best life, what's its name? I love pugs. I had so many favorite parts of the video, but the mega trellis stood out. You are so hard working and full of ingenuity. Also enjoyed the shots from Jess & Miah's farm. It is obvious you are a blessing to many - so hard working and intelligent. Thanks for the vlog.

You can make plant tags out of aluminum soda or beer cans, by cutting off the ends, cut through the rest of the can, flatten, and cut tags to size, then engrave.

My best advice I think would be not to burn yourself out. Permaculture is a lesson in low time preference. It takes years to fill a plate when you’re doing things this way. But it will all work out more than you could of ever imagined as soon as you start to feel your efforts are futile!
I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Just found your channel. My grandsons just built a raised bed for me. I just planted and covered with netting. Only have quarter acre, enough for some nice raised beds and chickens. Appreciate watching you as I am slowly building strength to take care of my small plot, I thank God for my daughter does most everything, her and the grandchildren.

Hello from GA. I have watched this channel for a year and now Pecan Grove. I watch on my tv do i couldn't comment. I have learned so much from you and Wanda and applied the knowledge to my garden. I would love a vergo bed but my beds and buckets will do. Lol. I am 72 and still working part time to buy what i need. Keep praying, blessing and teaching us. Feeling blessed just to be able to watch and listen to you.. .

Great video and educational, Can an old upright freezer be use to start worm compost? So worms that you have in freezer don’t air? I definitely want to try this but don’t want to kill my worms.
Sure. The air concern shouldn’t be a big deal as long as you don’t fill it up completely. If you open it during the warm afternoons every now and again they should be fine

Do you have any experience with planting field peas and oats as a cover crop? I bought a 5 pound bag from Johnny's a few years ago. I have an area where 9 giant pine trees used to be, where I'd like to suppress weeds and have an alternative to grass. Right now it is wood chips from the pine tree stumps cut down years ago surrounding three big peach trees a few mulberry trees and thornless blackberries in a couple spots next to the peach trees... and some raised beds and there used to be a bunch of poison ivy and virginia creeper, euonymous was pulled out. Will I make a mess if I broadcast seeds here? I'd also like to put them in the raised beds for nitrogen fixing and was thinking of keeping them cut low but not terminating them to have as a permanent mulch around summer crops I'd transplant in in late April. I'm in SC zone 8 in the upstate.
I've thrown out cover crops here & there, nothing really stays around for too long except vetch. It really depends on your plans for the area, if you're doing perennials, sure, throw out cover crops the first few years. When succession happens most annuals won't persist for too long anyways, here in the Southeast the land will naturally succeed to forest. I just try to direct what type of forest I want to have

I'm just trying to as naturally as possible (with a view to utilizing as many Permaculture methods as possible conducive to this area) to work towards a backyard and partial front yard "food forest". Cover crops are new to me but it seems like they could solve a lot of issues I'm confronted with. I just didn't want them to grow out of control and create more of a problem.

What/how do you do for pest control aka mice, rats, ants, etc ?
Cat for mice, my redbone hound actually digs up at least a dozen moles a year, although they're still an issue from time to time.
Ants I just live with, they're actually miracle soil structure builders, I'm sure to always have plantain nearby though. Plantain will make the bites go right away.
What does a sugar scrub do after pulling weeds?
Weeding dried out your hands because you’re touching soil so much. Sugar scrub gets the dirt out of any dry cracks that develop. Lard is best at preventing dry skin at all though

We are in the Carolina slate belt so it’s a shallow layer of clay then bedrock. Sand land is 30 miles south. There is a big pine industry here & my soil was pretty bad due to that
@@HoneybeeHollowGardens Looks like it. In GA we used goats to clear the scrub and horses to fertilize the plots.
