I’m a South Korean. I don’t hate North Koreans. I just hope one day North and South can unite so all the seperated families can meet before they die.
Nothing's wrong with North Korean people it's only their leader and government
i want the unification so bad, i just want to see captain Ri and yoon Se ri be reunited again :(
The question is who are going to lead the country after unification. You must only agree with the south Korean government to be the leader. What if North Korea win the war? Do you still want to be unified by the North government? No offence taken, I am just curious.
Stop dreaming! North Korea is North Korea, South Korea is South Korea! Two nations!
Jeff Zhang We can't unify in a radical way. We'll probably start with economic unification under two rulers. I think South Koreans are ready to sacrifice themselves for the unification of the Korea when the time comes. If you are more curious about Koreans' thoughts on the Korean War, watch the movie 'Taegukgi'. The Korean War was a huge tragedy.

I wish you had stressed more on Japan’s involvement. Tensions between Japan and Korea are still pretty high to this day because of it. Mostly because of the fact that Japan colonised Korea for about 35 years but has never apologised for it and every time someone brings up Comfort Women, Japan gets really upset. Just recently San Francisco built a statue in tribute to Comfort Women and Osaka cut ties with the city completely. It’s interesting the while Germany and Japan were on the same side during WWII, they’ve taken completely different steps after the war.
acctuatly after that incident Japan's government received much criticism and they did made an apology they did however said they wont take any legal responsibility for it claiming they already settled with the victims during the peace trinity in the 60's which is hard to believe but they were finally pushed to at least open a fund for female victims for South Korea relates and descendants of Comfort Women
They've never apologised in a proper and sincere way to the victims and the Prime minister and politicians in Japan visit Yaskuni shrine each year where they honour 2.5m Japan's war dead including excited war criminals. Need not say more how deceptively blind Japanese are about their sins.
@@sweee4586 Let's blame that to their religion, shall we? They have 2 religion they'd believe in: Shintoism and Budhism. Both are giving significance to having power and be a 'god' - achieving high. Hence, the suicidal cases. _Japan is fvcked up, bro. I don't know where to start with it._

Defeated North? That would imply South won war which was not the case. Nobody won and it was just a sad war that could have been avoided. Stop with propaganda and speak facts.
THat's totally true. If the south side win, how could the 38th line unchanged. Stupid propaganda
The North invaded and fought to have control of SOUTH Korea. The south prevented that, therefore the South did win and prevented the North from taking over their country. But yes all war is sad
@@RealityHurts923
North also prevented American invasion and capitulation from so both North and South prevented their ultimate defeat from one another which in definition is called stalemate and not true victory for any side.
There has been no peace treaty and the war is still active and ongoing there was a ceasefire signed that was all
To be fair, they're trying to fit the entire North/South Korean history in 9 minutes. If I recall, NK invaded SK and with the help of the Americans the South was able to push back into the NK territory. However, as NK was pushed closer to the Chinese border, the Chinese entered the war and assisted the NKs. There was a lot of back and forth until armistice was signed. While they may not have disclosed the entire truth, I doubt they had any ill intention with their statements.
If South Korea brings kpop inside North Korea, I think they'll stop with all this

"As some historian say that Japanese treated them(Koreans) like a second class citizens" is a serious understatement for the human rights violation and the effort in crushing and eradicating traditional cultures and the language. All countries who faced annexation by Japan prior to the liberation in WW-2 could attest treacherous period of time they experienced under their rule.
all of weak were victims of stronger in jungle law of that time.
Well said. It is shocking this was said in the video and is a major error that needs to be fixed. Typical Western ignorance.
Your right,
Japan treated Koreans like dirt on their shoes
and even now in 2019. it still hurts.
@Madalin Grama economic development during the Japanese colonization can be said to have laid the foundation for future growth in several respects. And reason of current Japan Korean relationship is due to the Korean government's violence of International law of 1965 treaty between Japan and Korea
Japan just went for revenge. As stated Korea was part of imperial china back then.

@@user-tq8vd2xj6z yeah I know. They didn't go into detail.
One of my problems with the video is that they didn't get the original 38th parallel border right. Instead, when they explained the 38th parallel border, they show someone drawing the current one. before the war, the border was a straight horizontal line.
The video was mostly about why Korea is split, not how Korea was under Japan's rule.
Thought they should make a separate video of that, barely any videos out there about Korea under Japan's rule.
2:10 Wow! Japan had computers already in 1880!
the South Korea and North Korea is only one.. divided only by politics. they will become 1 unified Korea one day. the Same with unified Germany.
Beautiful dream-er... Wait unto meeee
The only reason East and West Germany reunified is because the East German economy collapsed, there was a mass uprising, and Eric Honecker (the East German dictator) and the Stasi (the East German secret police) fled for their lives.
West Germany then swept in and took everything over in order to prevent a humanitarian crisis and lawless failed-state from forming on their border.
(It was essentially a "peaceful conquest" )
That's what would have to happen for the 2 Koreas to unite like Germany did.
Minus the violence
Germany will start WW3. I know it.
Wow, it's like youre telling us how simple it would be to tell kim to Give up his regime, and just become a mere politician. Coz obviously, a country would only survive as a capitalist. The 38th parallel wasn't like that during the division of the borders, it only changed after the Korean War. The original borders of North and South Korea was just a straight line.

About the US protecting Korea part... Here are 3 reason why North-Korea does not like the US:
1.- In 1866 a steam boat (General Sherman) was sent to sack Korean Royal Tombs
2.- Shinmiyangyo (1871) Noth-Korea did not want foreing ships traveling their waters, so the US felt the need to send an expedition that ended killing 200 people only 3 of them from the US
3.- The hostilities between URSS & USA , took the life of more than 5 million people in North-Korea, 20% of them were killed by the US air force with bombs and napalm
The simple truth is, Rusia and USA, (comunism and capitalism) split Korea

You brought up 2 examples from 150 years ago. Your 3rd example was from 70 years ago. Everyone who experienced that is long dead. A World War ended and no one was going to start up a new one fighting over one small country that had no army, allies or resources. America is pretty much the only reason why South Korea is independent now. Without the US involvement, we would now have one big North Korea. I think their involvement made the outcome better for everyone, at least this way, less Koreans have to suffer the North Korean regiment.
FINALLY the video I was looking for....thank you for not just reading a korean war history book, and actually what caused the war and the complexities behind it .
No wonder now Korea has a rule at a certain age have to go to the ARMY
Most countries had national service after ww2. I’m from the uk and my grandad and his brother both did national service in the 50s. Korea didn’t get rid of theirs, I don’t know why (haven’t got to that lesson yet in gcse history, we’ve only done one lesson of it) but it’s probably due to not having a large enough regular army (whereas in the uk we do and ditched national service after we did)
My dad is Chinese and my mom is Korean. I was born in the US. But I wish that North and South could trust each other. And that'll take a long time. But if the two countries are reunified, think how much happier the people would be. Especially North Koreans who don't even know what's happening outside their country.
Thats a pipe dream. We are getting further and further away from that generation while the younger generation don’t care about reunification. More importantly, South Korea is an economic power. If both Koreas were to reunite, South Korea would have to pay for everything. At this point, it doesnt make sense for them to reunite with North Korea.
That’s a bit naive. Ship has sailed awhile ago, sadly. 😢

I love how they forgot to mention that the reason the we withdrew to the demarcation line and called for a cease fire was because we came too close to the Chinese border and the Chinese pushed us and our allies all the way back. We pretty much lost that war and to save face setup a cease fire.
That begs the question, why didn't the US declare war on China? and why didn't the US drop the bomb to finish the North Korean regime once and for all which would've saved the lives of so many people down the road?
Why didn't Korea have a say to the 38th Parallel?.. So many people were affected by the decisions others made for them..
the same way like how Africa and the Middle East were parted, they were just colonized, hence uninvolved.

Grace Park at that time who were these korean leaders who didn't took part on what's messing up in their country and just let the US and the USSR/China and the UN didn't interfere either and yes you're right
Because it would have complicated things. Both powers just wanted to move on and deal with other issues from the aftermath of WWII. Russia and the US both fought on the same side so neither one could say the other didn't deserve compensation. Korea was just spoils of the war. Korea was screwed no matter what, if the Axis powers won then Japan would own them instead.

I want to correct you on some things. First, the 38th Parallel and the DMZ has different border. After the war, the border changed from 38th Parallel to the DMZ. It's not the same. Second, technically, they're still in war until now since no peace treaty signed. So there's no winner in Korean War. Third, there's speculation that the SK made the first attack by invading Haeju near the 38th parallel.

Can you make a video on the fall of Berlin Wall and how Germany didn’t turn out the way Korea did?
I know your comment is 2 years old now, lol. But I think the fall of Berlin wall was an accident. Apparently, the soldiers misheard a command they received and thought that it said “destroy the wall” so they began destroying it. The wall was never actually meant to be taken down.

3:54 not only they treated us like second class citizens (which is mild), they tried to erase our history and culture by burning down ancient historic buildings and completely banning the Korean language to be spoken all over the peninsula. What's more saddening is significant Koreans lost their lives due to oppression, forced labor, forced conscription, and harsh living conditions. Additionally, there were incidents such as the "comfort women" system and forced medical experiments that resulted in further suffering and loss of life. I think you forgot to mention that;) @theinfograpicshow
I find this video very informative and educating. Well done.
The 38th parallel was a straight line though, the current Korean borders were created as the result of the armistice, not before.
One fact that makes Korea angry is that the Soviet ran into war with Japan only few weeks before WW2 ended. They declared war on Japan right before Japan got nuclear-bombed and surrendered. That's partly because the Soviets knew Japan's defeat is obvious and they wanted some crops out of east asia after the war. But the reason why Soviet did not declare war on Japan at the early times of the war in the first place is something else. They did not want war with Japan initially. Germany was enough for them. But when the war was closing to its end, the US and the allies found landing on Japan was too risky. Japan's defeat was so obvious, but Japan did not surrender believing the Japanese people's samurai souls are so strong that it can overcome economical and mechanical inferiority. They kept the war longer and longer than they were capable of. That's why the US finally chose to bomb them with nuclear weapons. But the decision they made before the nuclear bombs was making Soviet declare war on Japan so that they could fear another additional enemy, and then surrender to the US to protect itself from communist Soviet. So Japan's irresponsible and irrational hesitation of surrender made Soviet invasion right before the end of the war, making an excuse to the Soviet to demand something in Korean peninsula. So Japan is partially responsible for the division.
What is worse is that Japan tried to destroy institutions and manufacturing basis they built on the Korean peninsula as much as possible before they surrender and leave the peninsula. Reducing future risk of Korea becoming strong and invading Japan is understandable, but not acceptable. Colonizing a neighbor country massacring people and drafting all the golds out of it devastated the country. When they leave the country, they destroy everything because they hate them? That's worst. Korea started from the bottom after the Korean war. Unlike how Japan claims they contributed to Korea's modernization, Korea started from stone age all over again in the 60s.
3:28 this part is boring for some foreigners, but as a Korean, it is very sad to skip.
In 1894, there was a revolution of the lower class peasants in Korea. At that time, the royal family of Joseon (the pre-Korean kingdom) had no power to stop it, so they requested the Qing dynasty army. For Japan, this was a great opportunity to send troops to Joseon. Because in the past treaties between Japan and Joseon, it was stated that troops could be stationed for the safety of Japanese residents in Chosun.
However, the'Donghak' revolutionary army knew the danger of this and dissolved it. The Joseon Dynasty's royal family requested that the foreign army that lost their purpose to return to their home country, but they did not keep it. The Japanese forces occupied the royal palace, kidnapped the king, and demanded a policy of modernization. It was the mistake of the king, who failed to resolve the conflict with his own people and tried to push it down with foreign troops.
Afterwards, Japanese troops attacked ships carrying the Qing Dynasty's troops in Joseon by surprise. After that, the battle between the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese army was automatically fought in the land of Joseon. because of the treaty and request of foolish royal family, we could not prevent the wars of other countries from being fought in our country. and they both have the purpose to colonize Joseon, so we had no profit from that war. It makes me resent as a Korean to pass through this sad history in just a few seconds in the video.

Everyone in korea in that age and alittle below are still messed up. I feel it when i talk to them, its too sad
The Korean citizens from either side don’t hate each other. The South always wants to help the North. It’s the leaders that hate each other
that segue into Wix was F*king Pro Level!
What triggered me was the modern military uniforms and buildings being used
Also them using modern maps for 19 century almost gave me cancer.
Oh my god
Yah I was confused for a while
Man, just trying to understand how the Korean people feel after having experienced all this? What brave and tolerant people. ❤ to you all Korea ❤❤❤
You could have mentionned that for a good chunk of the Cold War, the South Korean government was pretty much as dictatorial as the North… a haven of democracy and freedom it was not.
Martial law in SK only ended in 1987, IIRC.
right. But we fought back, and North Korea did not. This is the difference between them and us.
I’m here after watching crash landing on you
"When two fish hates each other blame the Englishmen." An Indian quote
Descendants of the Sun was amazing and the brotherly relationship between the main lead and that North Korean army man was really cool. (Sorry I watched it a year ago and forgot the names. There were 3 army men, the main lead, second lead, and the North Korean man. )
Soon joong ki ? He's main lead of another drama named Vincenzo
1:11 made me laugh a little bit xD. I'm not Korean, but I'm currently studying Korean, and just so you're aware, "여보세요" is only used when saying "Hello?" on the phone.
"안녕하세요" is the generic, polite "Hello." or "안녕" for short if you're speaking casually.
It's a small point, but it'd be a bit awkward in spoken Korean. It'd kinda be like the equivalent of someone walking up to you in person and saying "Who is it?" instead of "Hello."
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼True!!!
They didn't mention how Filipinos fought with South Korea
So basically Korea is surrounded by
1. China
2. Russia
3. Japan
Noice 😁
After WW2, winners splitted Germany into two countries, but they did't split Japan into two. They should have diveided North and South Japan. Why bothered Koreans?
How would you split it? Why would it be split? It didn't get invaded, and the problem with Korea was that it had no leadership and it bordered with communist countries that wanted to expand.
Wix is too expensive for an unestablished writer looking for a platform, and means to make a living... I regret trying.
No one:
Kim Jong-Un: *-__-*
How the Japanese treated the Koreans is VERY VERY VERY understated
The comment section is it self a history book i got to know a lots of things i never knew🙂🙂
*Meme*
Professor McGonagall yelling at Harry(USSR) Hermione (China) and Ron(US)
"Why is it when something bad happens, its always you three?"
“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
From a RUclipsr ❤❤
I am very impressed by the economic development of South Korea
Since their ancient kingdoms they were split. Goguryeo silla and baekje
ᄋᄋᄋ Was it not called Goryeo before it was Joseon?
ᄋᄋᄋ ahhh okay thanks... that makes sense actually as its also spelt Koryo.
I knew it, *it was Russia's fault.*
1:19 it is not hello, it means "hello" when you call someone
There are two ways to say hello in korean when u r saying hello to a friend irl u say annyeonghaseyo and when u r saying hello while calling ur friend, u say yeoboseyo
The way that plug at the end was slid in was hilarious
I'm a Korean who live in Seoul. I think Korea wouldn't have been divided if Japan had surrendered earlier or later because either the USA or USSR could have taken control of the whole peninsula. Maybe the Korean protesters might have won against the Japanese.
+The DMZ (unintentionally) got protected from human beings for almost 7 decades, which made the place to become the home for many endangered species.
Yes. If Japan had surrendered to the United States early, South Korea would not exist and would have become North Korea, a puppet state of the Soviet Union.
u got it wrong in the korean war the usa and south korea didn’t “defeat” the north no one ended up winning the war
Interesting how other countries felt it was their right to take over another country back then. Very arrogant
Random guy: so where are you from?
Me: I’m Korean
Random guy: North or South
Me: 😐😐😐😐😐😐
The information was great, but the host really needs to pause a little bit. He is hasty!
zeke ekez He also sugarcoated way too many things. Real life is brutal and merciless, please depict it realistically when making a historic video @INFOGRAPHICS
"Has some kind of evil dictator" He is an evil dictator!
Russia and the US should have had nothing to do with South Korea.
