I started think that comfort in Korea could be a little dangerous for my growth. If you are an expat or in a comfortable environment, do you think that comfort can stifle your growth?
I'm pretty sure your concern is actually what every Korean shares, especially at their working ages. Deep inside, they have this desire to go abroad for work or just living experiences for couple of years, but only a few or nearly none of them take action because they are scared of leaving the comfort zone. They are well aware that there's no as convenient and safe country.
ayyye I got way more than a shoutout haha appreciate you brotha! tbh man, you'll just know when your time is up in Korea...it was hard for me to leave but it was honestly our friendship that made it ok for me to leave cause I knew our friendship was gonna continue despite me not being there...noting but love for you brothaaaa!
Man, what a go-getter you are. It's understandable how you feel after 14 years of same profession & living in the same country. Broadening your horizons might have led you to where you are now so far. The road not taken might be leading you to the destination in your mind or to the same place or to get lost, you'll never find out without trying. Go for it, rooting you!
We shall see what happens! That's always the dangers of trying something new later in life...one never knows how things will turn out...:( But one never knows unless we try!
❤ You have also contributed to S. Korea (and the Universe) for 14+ years with who you are as a person. So thank you! Sending positive vibes from Southern California - K American learning about my roots.
Woah...thank you so much for this comment. Making this video made me feel ungrateful, which I'm not, it's just I always feel like I'm not doing enough. Appreciation the support from Cali:)
Sir, being "comfortable" is a blessing. From this comfort you can push yourselves and make yourself "uncomfortable" via forced FOCUS... get married, raise children, become a renaissance man, write a book, teach to your audience, not just about casual Korean topics, but deeper life topics and social issues, learn Tae Kwon Do, get involved in the Korean media / entertainment industry, get into the next squid games series ( 😃 ) Opportunities abound just where you are... There's a million things. It doesn't always have to be out jumping around from country to country or living in a hostile (uncomfortable) environment... ♥
I saw this comment earlier, but did not want to respond to it in fear of losing it before I fully digested what you wrote. Then, I remember I could just take a screenshot! Hahaha. Thank you for this profound message and the support:)
Great video! I think you bring up a lot of good points/ reminders for all of us to think about. Comfort is great. However at the end of my life I don’t want to have a lot of regrets and ask myself “Why didn’t I do/try that?” On the other hand we have to remember that every choice comes with consequences ( both good ones and unpleasant ones) so we have to be conscious of those as well. I must say… sometimes your posts make me feel like I am having a chat with a friend. 👍 Thank you! I enjoyed this video! 😊
That's always the conflict...should I try to reach my potential in other ways that may or may not be rewarding, or rest in safety of comfort and convenience. I usually have talks like this with my friends, so I'm glad you feel like one of them:)
Thank you so much! I should be happy for my current life...I am, but I always feel like I should be doing more...I'll have to learn to be content in my life:)
You finding and rediscovering your joys and passions in life is always a good story to tell, Francois Never forget the reasons that ignite your soul Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Best of luck to you! It seems you are looking for your IKIGAI… as many of us are. Personally I think you are very self aware and have found most of your IKIGAI but I think it’s healthy to “check in” and see if we are on our right path. You can always begin by trying new things and asking yourself…”is this bringing me closer to what I want or further away”. Some things are meant for the short run while other things reveal more to us. Again, BEST OF LUCK! I truly enjoy your posts! 👍👏
I think I've seen this IKIGAI philosophy before, but I forgot about it:) Thank you for reminding me. I like your idea of trying new things to discover if they bring me closer or push me further away to what I want. You sound like a philosopher:) Appreciate this comment as it has caused me to think about a lot of things!!:)
I’m not comfortable and I enjoy watching your videos. It helps me and I can’t wait to come out there next summer. I hope to meet you too! God bless you!
Btw, I think Korean, French, Mongolian experiences alone can make you set to be a successful diplomat candidate. Especially, 14 years in Korea so far built you up!
Why don't you write a book of your life? You talk very eloquently, I think you'll also be a good writer. Writing and publishing a book will be a good lifetime goal or challenge.😊
This is not the first time I've heard this hahaha. I think I should start one! I'll give it a try since everyone keeps pointing me in that direction hahaha. Thank you for this:)
contentment is a different battle all its own. I have a high level of confidence in my ability to make a way for myself anywhere, anyhow. Im comfortable in the US as I am and im only 29. I now have a desire to test myself in a foreign country like Japan or South Korea and I think I will someday very soon. I may have to start over some or I may not but regardless my constant striving for degrees of freedom have pushed me to want to explore that concept and myself in these foreign lands. I could just be content here where I am at but I really want to answer the call and see what I am made of, making it in a different land altogether.
Bro, I'm in the opposite situation, where I'm in a competitive af and expensive af city, where you need to hustle just to survive, forget getting ahead 😮💨 The pandemic has also taught those of us who've only focused on school and then work that having a life is actually important, so now it's let's travel to have a life 😁 It's nice that you're comfortable and it's convenient there
I feel you...I don't want to seem ungrateful because I know others would love to be in my situation. I think it's some mental thing for me...I was told when I was younger that I'm not good enough, so I always seek more...
@@francoismarc3 Is it ever enough? We're taught that we should always hustle for more to try to be successful and to make more money, both of which are good, but it seems that the goal post always moves further once we reach it. And we forget why exactly we wanna be successful and make more money. I was all about school and work, too, but rn, I'm just biding my time planning to travel and live life for once, you know? What exactly do you wanna do and why? As long as you think about why, it's good. Good luck, bro 👍🏼
Great video Francois! I know exactly what you are saying brother! Well, I think you are doing amazingly well in Korea!! So well that many foreigners would love to be in your spot including myself!! I think you are a very successful person who has achieved a lot in your profession. You may think you are in too comfortable and complacent position which may hinder your growth and development but I think you are being a little hard on yourself. I think I know why you may feel this way and I think it is because you have settled down and have been living in Korea for fourteen years with a good stable job that pays well. Fourteen years is really a long time in Korea or in any country for that matter. So, it is almost natural to feel this way. Many people would feel similar if they were in your situation. Also, I am not sure exactly how old you are but I think you said you were in your early forties in another video. So, I think you still believe you are still young to accomplish more in your life and are motivated to reach your fullest potential. Only time will tell whether or not you may want to try something new and something different and more challenging and get out of your comfort zone or even make some drastic changes in the future and push yourself and evolve but here is what I say to you Francois. If you are content, comfortable, and satisfied with your life and profession now, I would not risk it if I were you unless you know for "SURE" 100% that you had it enough and it's time to "MOVE ON" to something else with absolute zero regret. If not, I would just continue to do what you have been doing if I were you. It's just my opinion though Francois!! I am sure you will do well whatever you decide to embark on and the choices you make and be happy given your great personality and your resilience and hard work. Take care brother and best wishes!! P.S. Just let the time take care of it and do not force anything. It will come naturally one way or the other!! You willl know when that time comes!! So, do not stress over it!! Enjoy your life as always!!😊
Thanks for the profound missive, brotha:) I think I may be rushing things and should try to let some things just come to me. Your comments are always insightful and cause me to think. Really appreciate you, as always!!!:)
I hear two conflicting narratives here, but only one that you seem to be verbalizing... If we are content its because we are complacent and comfort can kill ambition. However, ambition can kill contentment; our dissatisfaction with the present moment can break our peace. So its possible that for a long time you felt the need to hustle and grind to overcompensate for a lack of self-worth and identity. And then you move to Korea and start finding yourself enjoying the moment while you stop scrambling towards the future. It sounds like you found peace for a time (which is contrary to ambition). Then, recently... Zach was a mirror for you. You realized you might be heading towards a season of change, where you want more and youre afraid youve lost the hustle... My recommendation is to search internally for what has broken your peace, what do you feel like you are missing. Dig down into that, and hopefully youll find some answers that may inform you to make a shift. I think we all go through seasons of hustle and drive and then rest, recovery, and contentment.
I'm in Korea just like you but I'd give anything to be in your position. That feeling of comfort, security and stability; no anxiety about the future... You're lucky. Just figure out for yourself what you really want from life and from yourself and use the resources at your disposal to make it happen. While at it, just count yourself lucky that your life isn't an anxiety stricken rat race 😇
What an optimistic and succinct comment! I will also count myself lucky there is not much anxiety from the rat race. I guess my stress isn't a high as most folks:) Thanks again!:)

Wow, you sound driven like a Korean! In places like Mongolia and the Philippines, the main idea is just to get married and start having kids, lol. Of course, they have some ambition, but on a different level. The main thing is to be happy. I remember talking with my other foreign friends while in South Korea, and we all commented on the high expectations that Koreans seem to have of their partners, their children and of themselves. They are really into climbing up the ladder. But the one thing to remember, in my opinion, is that life goes by quickly. The end will come sooner than you think, so try to balance every aspect of your life wisely. My opinion again, but you don't really seem complacent at all! You work and still have time to make videos, travel frequently, provide life commentary, etc. 🙂
