About picking it up and comparing it against GS: as the Tenere goes further to it's side, it may be as hard as a GS that lays on it's engine. Yes, it's lighter, but the distance to lift it is greater.

    • @user-qc4tt2qm9v

@@aapolappalainen I've ridden, laid down and picked up both. The GS which weighs 600 lbs feels like it weighs 150 pounds more than the 700.

After more than 15000km with my T7 I mostly agree. I've done week long trip in scandinavia and for that the bike was quite fine even with standard spring and all my stuff and me almost 100kg. Full preload adjustment. Seat is not that good but riding standing up some times helps lot :). And if other bikes would be cheaper they would have been option for me. I like KTM790. I had to spend some money for after market stuff but also with the other bikes you might have to do the same so T7 in that sense is still cheap. If new motorcycle costs as much as new car its just too much.

Had mine for just over 6 weeks and have put 1833 miles on it so far. Engine is superb, throttle on/off isn’t the best, but adjusting the cable free play to the minimum improves it and learn to be smooth. Seat is a torture device and I’ll be looking to seat concepts when they have one available. I’ve converted my wheels to tubeless and fitted internal TPMS which works great and takes away the concern of punctures, all for about £100 all in. Have an AS alloy rear rack fitted, heated grips and a Rally Raid 90 rear shock spring which has made the bike ride even better. Bike is super stable and fun to ride, both on and off road. Just got back from 486 mile 4 day trip and averaged 73.9 mpg and the 169 mile ride home today resulted in 83.1 mpg. Only thing I don’t like about this bike is the seat. Had a GSA1250 before this bike and don’t miss it at all. This bike is a Jack of all trades and a master of none, but makes you feel good doing whatever, for a lot less money than most other ADV bikes.
P.S. you can adjust the dash backlight brightness.

i can confirm the great gas mileage of the T7 as I got over 70 mpg yesterday doing a long slow-ish highway cruise (probably averaged 85 km/h). Amazing. I returned home at 350 km and still have the last bar on the gas gauge solid and not flashing. That means I should be able to do another 150 km at the same speed. Gonna finish the tank today to see how far I get.

The thing with so called adventure riding is everything is a compromise. Bikes need to be capable of everything, everything is subjective to the buyer/rider. I don't own one but have ridden one and i personally like the simplicity of the bike. People complain about the weight of todays bikes but continue to want stuff added to them. Good work Yamaha, keeping it simple.

I think it's the road cruisers that end up asking for features while us who stick offroad have to deal with what companies stick on the bikes. Most adv bikes never leave pavement so that's a factor too

Hi, I totally agree. Very candid assessment. "No, it's not better than the 790 R", I am really hesitating between Triumph 900 Tiger Rallye, KTM 790 Adventure R and T700. I might end up with the T700 to replace my 30-year's old Africa Twin 700

The bike is for the guy who likes the off-road stuff better than the on-road stuff. And that is why I bought one. I have had a couple GS and an Africa Twin which were great bikes but I found that I really like the off-road stuff. I have had a couple of dual Sports but I like to be comfortable getting to the trails. This bike does an amazing job at both. I would rather a GS for a very long trips and a dual sport for the technical sections. This bike splits the difference quite well.
I always turn off the traction control and turn off the ABS while off-road so I don’t miss the extras at all.
I have watched videos of guys who have both the 790R and the T7 and they choose the T7 when things gets more technical. It doesn’t stall as easily.

Great review! I've had mine for a couple of weeks now, put just over 2000KM on it and I agree with most of what you said. Surprisingly, the seat is getting better, either that or my ass is getting used to it. 😉 One thing that has surprised me is how much feedback the front end gives with the 21 inch front wheel and the stock tire. I am amazed at how quickly I started trusting this bike in corners on the street, given it's offroad bias. This bike is a hoot in the twisties!

This is one of the most practical reviews of the bike.
And you are literally the first rider of a motorcycle that I have seen here who not only likes to have a soft (correctly so) suspension while riding off road but has the courage of conviction to say it.
A fully informative video that should be the clincher for anybody sitting on the fence about this bike.
I know Yamaha will not get it to India as the company doesn't care a damn about its business.

I agree on almost all the things you brought up, the bike definitely give you confidence and has such a smooth power delivery that you have to pay attention to your speedometer often, the suspension is way smoother than expected, on and off road, the seat is definitely not my favorite and the lights do work very well, all in all its a dream bike for me and keeps getting better, it has its cheap parts for sure . . .but! it always puts a smile on your face.
Awesome reviews, hope to see more soon.

I've had mine a year. Broadly agree with your review, Few points to add. I;m above average weight and found the stock suspension softened up after about a thousand miles and so I put the stiffer spring on the rear and put a spacer in the front. Big improvement ..... for me anyway.
I have dropped it many times now. I have the Yamaha crash bars and the bike itself is almost undamaged. Barkbusters are essential however.
The way the front fairing area vibrates is annoying.
    The fuel cap is poor.
For the money the bike is incredible. Weight far less noticeable than my previous bike CRF1000L Love it.

I think it might have something to do with the way that it’s engineered. If you take a look at the designs and design purpose, The chain drive actually works to keep the bike planted off-road. The idea is to keep the front wheel down. Take a look at the chain geometry. Front sprocket is much higher than usual.

Good review on the T700, I'm the same way with the gas cap WTH?? I got my bike and promptly went just under 9000 miles on a road trip across the USA, it did fantastic, with a Puig touring windscreen the wind is gone. The smallish gas tank is a pain, and the tubeless tires were a constant worry on a loaded bike. I came from a Vstrom 650 and have since purchased another and will let the Tenere go, but I hate to because it's an awesome machine, but for it to be equal With the Vstrom I would need tubeless wheels, bigger fuel tank and the Vstrom came with hard luggage as part of the package.

It's a wonderful bike. It handles beautifully on highways, dirt and the city, the stock spring can handle more than 130 kilo on it back, although it is configured for 75 kilo,
The tablet (-; can be setup to be at a lower light setting, what I love about this bike is its simplisty. No fancy gadgets that will break on the first full on the dirt.
I find the engine very lively and very grumpy sound, makes laugh every time, the height can be scary but you will manage it fairly quickly,
The fact that there is no tubeless tires is rather annoying, but manageable

Coming from a 2010 Multistrada 1200 S, and a 2005 Multi 1000DS before that, I’m strongly considering the T-700 for a future return to ADV biking. About your concern about anemic motorcycle horns, though - their only justification as standard equipment is to pass inspection and usefulness at gently warning bicyclists and pedestrians of their proximity to your line; otherwise, they mostly serve to enrage drivers. Motorcycles have better brakes, acceleration, and handling than anything else on the road, horn decibels don’t prevent crashes, but rider skill can.

Unbeatable bike for the money. The bike works so well the electronics are never missed, except for electronic cruise control. All ADV bikes are a giant compromise, and you can make this whatever you want for less money than the 790 and a lot less weight than the big bikes. For me, it's a perfect starting point.

What can I say I’ve had a GSA 1200. a KTM 1190 R , the last I sold to buy the T7,and have just returned from a 3650 Kay’s desert trip this bike is awesome , there’s been sand, gravel, corrugated tracks flooded tracks high speed bitumen fully loaded plus spare fuel , you just point this bike and it will oblige and it will make novices look like professionals so much so out of the 4 mates on the trip 2 are buying the Tenere the best all rounder you could ask for. Maybe I’m old school it’s all in the wrist and who needs all the gizmos to go wrong when you’re in the outback.

Thanks. Best, most honest review I've seen yet. In Australia, the T7 is 18k, 3k less that the 790. It just doesn't cut it. Pity the KTM is so damn ugly!! I'm looking into Triumph 900 Rally Pro now...
    Thanks again

Riding off road I much prefer tube tires. I carry a patch kit and spare tubes with me, I won't get stuck on a Sunday. Learned that lesson the hard way once. The other electronic things I agree, it would be nice if there was an ABS Mode that only turned off on the rear wheel and cruise control. Traction control I can live without. What bothers me the most about the bike is the weight, I really wish it weighed no more than 180 kilos

Nice review. I’ve had mine for 4 weeks, and can say that the throttle jerk is the only thing that bugs me. A lot. Ordered a throttle tamer from G2, so hopefully that helps.

    • @slakk5093
      @slakk5093 3 года назад +1

Isn't the throttle jerk because of the raised front sprocket position? Meaning more slack needed in chain. Fortnine's T700 review goes in to detail about it

I love this bike, I own this bike. The Kick is because its forks and shock are sprung to soft. Is it an enduro?, or off-road bike? Yes but it depends on skill of the rider. I have skills off-road, so it is for me. Doing my own oil/filter and the air filter maintenance is easy on the Tenere 700. To some this seems like not a big deal, IT IS. The bike is great on and off-road. It is a value.

What about the weight of the standard can man? Front soft, rear stiff. Seat narrow /hard. Overall it is a pretty good bike for the money /price point.

Yes it can replace your BMW, I replaced my R1250 GSA with a T7 Rally Edition. It does the same job, without all the gadgets and is just as much fun, but cheaper to run, service, insurer and 70+ mpg. Only downside, Rally Edition seat is rock hard (waiting for a replacement to be available from aftermarket). 👍 BMW GSA/GS would be better for two up riding, as it has better seat and more room for passenger.

I like the T 7. May I know your height - I think you are not flat foot both legs on ground, right ?
Regarding tube type tyres - I think they are good for off road. I have seen a 2020 Africa twin adventure sports in light gravel road hits a small rock at 100 kmph and got a flat, it is tubeless - he is in the middle of no where and looking for a wheel. If you have a tube type tyre you can repair it or put a new one ( carrying a spare tube or repair kit is not a big deal na )
