  • 🐊🌍 SHOCKING BOAT RAMP FAIL - WENT BAD FAST! 🌍🐊
    📖 Description:
🚤💥 TOTAL BOAT RAMP DISASTER - TRAILER SINKS STRAIGHT TO THE BOTTOM! 💥🚤
I was about to launch my boat when I heard someone shouting down at the ramp:
🔥 "You’re reversing too far! Stop! Stop! You’ve gone off the ramp!"
At that moment, I knew something mad was about to happen, so I hit record.
The guy tried 4-5 times to pull the trailer back up, but it wasn’t budging.
So what did he do? He went all in-reversed even further and floored it! 😳💀
💥 BOOM! The tow hitch SNAPPED, and the trailer went straight to the bottom of the river.
Then came 4+ HOURS of madness trying to recover the trailer so boats could launch again!
🚨 Even worse, I was told someone had DROWNED there not long ago. Boat ramps can be seriously dangerous!

Years ago, I was at a ramp in Tavernier, Fl. someone was pulling a sunken boat with a tow truck, the cable ripped off the boat and hid a man in his head. I was next to him, he was dead before he hit the ground. So be very careful. I was 14 yr old.

I bet someone is going to buy some good rope now. I know of at least 4 boat ramps that are terrible in S E. Alabama and N.W. Florida. Some have no docks at all, making it dangerous getting in boat. One in particular is very rural and not paved like yours, soil erosion and big pot holes below water line. We fishermen don't get the help and respect equal to our dues like the other post says!

Slip a 4’ long piece of 2x6 in front of each trailer wheel, and you’re out in 90 seconds, with zero damage.

On a lake that was undergoing a drawdown several trailers drove off the end of the ramp trying to load or unload boats. One drove off the end and the trailer frame was directly on the concrete ramp with the tires handing over the deeper water at the end of the concrete. The owner several times backed up to get a running start and tried to jerk the trailer over the concrete edge with the truck in 4WD. After several more tries he got the trailer out but left the axle and tires in the water. They dragged the trailer and then the axle with the wheels attached up to the dirt parking lot. There they flipped over the trailer frame and the next day they hired a welder with a portable rig to come and weld the axle back on. You cannot fix stupid but was sure fun to watch.

I've had this happen to me years ago. The trailer wheels dropped off the end of the ramp because barge traffic had washed out all the fill at the end of the conc slab. If you can, you need a couple of guys to wade in and lift the trailer up so the wheels can get back on the slab. If they have dropped off more than HALF the wheel diameter, you can't drive it out no matter 4 whl drive or what. You'll end up shearing the U-bolts off the trailer suspension and pull the trailer frame out, leaving the axles and springs in the water.

Power loading creates the hole at the toe of the ramp. When you back into it, the trailer drops into the hole. best option is to disconnect and lift the trailer out. If you try to pull it out, damage will occur.

Hello, very nice of you to help that guy. I would’ve done the same. But the reason I think is that guys loading their boats on the trailer with their engine, flushes all the dirt out at the end of the ramp on the water. Causing a big drop off at the end of the ramp. It’s a bad idea to load your boat in the trailer that way.

Good on ya for taking a few hours of your fishing time to help a fellow out. I don't know if he offered you anything, but I would have offered you at least a hundred bucks to show gratitude 9and cheaper than a tow truck or new trailer). But if I was you I wouldn't have accepted any money (just the good karma), but I would have asked him: "Instead of taking the money, on your way home stop at the Fish Shanty for dinner and find the oldest and ugliest waitress ('cause they work the hardest and get no love) and slip her a Ben Franklin."

I'll need to admit I have never seen this happen, though have heard of going off the ramp quite often. I am ASSUMING that his wheels were hanging over the lip of the concrete. MY way of doing this would be to stop and admit I did something not too great, and ask for ideas on what to do. I would go in the direction that the trailer is not all that heavy and try to find a way to leverage one the hitch and lift the back (hand line from a boat or, if you want to get crazy, a back hoe?). I don'y know. Educate me. What SHOULD he have done (besides not back up so far in the first place)?

Someone else may have a better idea but that was my idea. The ole timers next idea was wait in tow truck 3 hrs later I was like hey we gotta get this trailer out the way. People starting to pull up to use the ramp. Locals of course so we got on it come up with a plan as we went a got it out. The ole timer was grateful for it no doubt about it. @ Yes, well, kind of winced at how fast he got stopped by that trailer. The closest I ever came to a major ramp failure was backing an even smaller boat/trailer down the ramp, and one of the wheel cylinder seals blew out. Got it stopped, but it was rear wheel drive and the back end was floating! Holding just on the front brakes. Fun. The parking brake would not have helped so I was stuck there until someone got a strap on the car. That was 1989. NO cell cameras back then so no embarrassing pics as these years down the road. Now-a-days, I just kick my inflatable pontoon boat out the back of the truck, roll it on it's dolly past the line of people waiting, and am out fishing in a few minutes. There is something to be said about being so broke you can't afford a boat!!!!
Peace and blessings to you and yours.
