I completely agree. I finally broke through my weight issue by a, hardly drinking wine anymore and b, cutting back on processed food. 22 pounds lost without dieting. No restrictions. My favorite food is home cooked protein, fruit and veg, low amounts of carbohydrates. But I think daily meditation is what enabled me to do this naturally.

Well I was counting calories and totally agree with you it’s a waste of time. I’ve just completed a 9 month pre diabetes course and learned so much more from that. Now I eat mindfully.

I don’t count calories. I intermittent fast most days and eat whole foods. Been doing this for 5 months and have lost weight but I do it also for the other health benefits from IF. I feel huge benefits, physically and mentally. I’ve previously calorie counted but as you say, as soon as you go back to your normal eating, the weight, plus some goes back on. I don’t find IF difficult. It’s life changing for me.

If you were stocking your kitchen. Cupboard for the first time, what would you buy?

Thank you Liz for some very valuable points you highlighted here . I do not count calories either , I am fortunate that at aged 53 my weight has pretty much stayed the same throughout my adult years , give and take plus or minus a few extra pounds here and there , but I pretty much weigh the same as I did in my twenties now . I put this down to always trying to live an active and healthy life as much as possible . In my fifties I prefer to count the diversity of foods that I eat , making sure I have a good variety of plant based ingredients especially, over the course of my day and week . I also want to enjoy the food I eat , alongside knowing it is beneficial for my wellbeing. I’ve found that extra movement, mainly power walking daily has also helped keep my weight just right for my 5ft 2” frame 😅and prevent any peri menopause hormonal weight gain around my middle . I love the term intuitive eating you describe, and I like to think that is how I make decisions for my wellbeing in general. Thank you 😊

Thank you Liz, such a helpful video. I try to intermittent fast, and not count calories but I’m struggling to fast for as long as I used to. Dyou fast to give your digestive system a rest? And if so how long Dyou fast? Thank you

You could try focussing on nutritional value rather than calorie counting as Liz suggests in this video. We also recently recorded this podcast which you may find helpful: lizearlewellbeing.com/podcast/willpower-lose-weight-dr-andrew-jenkinson/ and there's lots of advice on our webiste too. Do speak to your GP if you have any concerns ❤️ Thanks, Rachel (social media manager)
