That's literally the first thing comes to mind after the roof rack + recover loop installed. is it possible to make an retractable annuminum platform / extra long step just latch on both recovery hook? 🙏
My dad's old series iii had sort of galvanized metal hoops in the same location that we used to stand on and get a ride along holding on to the roof gutters for dear life.
We are always trying to balance / appearance V strength V cost.... The current plate is laser cut and this keeps costs low - we wanted to avoid welding the stud as this adds cost. You cannot countersink on a laser and as these are made in the UK adding an extra operation will add cost quickly. The other problem with countersink is that the bolt will spin - although you could use an allen key I was trying to get this so it could be fitted with tools in the car ( i.e. just the nut wrench ). But keep challenging us .... we like it and it helps us make our products better.
Now we thought about using a coach bolt with a square head - try finding a M14 coach bolt ! we need M14 to make the wheel nut idea work this meaning you dont need extra tools to fit / remove the step.
Great video, love the idea, but Did I see right, you cleaned the top of the spacer ring with the alcohol wipe, then stuck it to the double sided tape on the base plate using the dirty greasy bottom side, leaving the nice clean side upper most?
Love this product! I'll be ordering tomorrow. Question for you? I'd love to see more about that outside light in the upper left. Do you have a link, video or more info on it? Not the usual reverse lights just over the bumper. Already installed and love them. I'm talking about the larger upper left / round one. Seems perfect for helping assist when cooking/camping. Thanks for any insights.
Hi guys really enjoy your videos and will be very rewarding when I do my 110 next year. I have a question I leave in australia and here when a snorkel is fitted on a 4x4 the intake is connected to the air box, I didn’t see that happening on your video? Thanks for your comments
Yes the factory airbox is piped to the side vent - the snorkel then fits to the vent fitting. Land Rover claim its not a snorkel ( for wading ) but a raised air intake for getting clean air from higher up.... actually the car will float before water gets into the standard air vent !
Hi Vincent - this should be OK - it may mark the powder coat but it is on the underside so i think it would be OK What colour did you go out of interest ?
great but i will need another step to get onto that step because i have a new knee on one side and a useless knee on the other ,but good work always like watching your videos
Useful again Simon…young Zak is working well! Have you seen the new JLR Defender TV advert yet?….(I think it is new as I have never seen it before)….looks like you need to drive the Stig through a waterfall somewhere..product testing!! 😎😎😎😎
Anything down the pipeline for the Disco 3? Are you going to restock some bits like steering wheels and the such? And one more thing what happened to your e-bay store you changed the format of what you offer? As apposed to what you offer more bits on your personal website what gives?
Disco 3 we have more coming - molle plates etc. The ebay store should have 90% of our products on it - I will check. Some low margin items we only sell on our website as we cannot sell for a profit on ebay with the ebay / paypal fees etc. Right now ebay is doing a job at handling sales into Europe but we have a new website coming in the next 2 weeks
A good question - the problem would be there is nothing to stop the step rotating as its just threaded in... you would be relying on the plastic bumper to stop it spinning
@@L663 I think I would just add some thread-lock to the tow eye thread - I'll give it a try.. Any update on when the rear bumper top will be available?
@@jerrykenney9255 Did the Thread-lock end up working for you Jerry? Any rotation? I would love not to have to take the bumper off, but really love the concept of this accessory. Thanks for any info you can share!
@@johnbaranello6932 The eye hooks work just fine. No rotation issues but if there are a little lock time should do the trick. Love not removing the bumper.
Just got the step for 58th birthday, big kid😁 one question.I have your tow hooks and inserts. Does the insert need to come out to make it fit? Trial fit and I can't seem to get the slot in the step to fit anything so guessing the insert goes. Unless I'm missing the simplest of simple things. In the video you have the newer surround not the insert.
Hi Andrew - yes the inserts are not compatible with the step - can i send you some of the chequer plate surrounds for your birthday ? a treat from us here at Powerful UK
The stud is not flush with the top - but i have modified the process based on comments. Now we will fit the stud - i now use the vice as a "press" to press the studs in so customers do not need to go mad with the hammering.
I had a road to Damascus moment today... why did i just nut use the vise as a press with a socket over the exposed thread... i will try this on monday .. or maybe sneak into work for 10 mins tomorrow.
“Just need to give it a tap…”.
That’s an authentic Land Rover tap 👍
Will be ordering one of these right now.
A d here he comes again, Mr.
PowerfulUK knocks it out of the park with a simple and effective idea. Proper Job Simon. beers Non Stick Nick.

I tried standing on the hoops - kind of where the idea comes from but its not comfy and a bit slippy..
Great idea. As a thought, could you countersink the stud into the plate so the grip cover then covers the whole surface?
Would be thinnest at the critical point.
@@Cous1nJack True and would need a stress analysis check.

@@L663 keeping it simple is always important. Keep the great products coming 👍🏻👍🏻😀
Fantastic idea. Will be buying one. However the bolt head needs to be powder coated black as well
Yes the design is good and i like the bolt idea but we need to tweak it a little for the fitting / appearance of the bolt
Nice. On order shortly!
Such a great idea, since it's shockingly difficult to climb up from the back (even with the door open)! Glad you went with the skateboard surface too.
It is a mystery to me why Land Rover designed the rear bumper of the Defender with a slippery smooth top surface that sloped - epic fail ?
Could the step not have a square hole instead of a round one , with a bolt to match? Also as someone else said countersink it ?
Now we thought about using a coach bolt with a square head - try finding a M14 coach bolt ! we need M14 to make the wheel nut idea work this meaning you dont need extra tools to fit / remove the step.
"Just tap it in" then proceeds to beat it to death with a lump hammer lol 😆
Just think of the MIL it will be very therapeutic.
Yeah but you get the drift. Pun intended.
Yes i think I am going to try using the vice as a press - put a socket on the back so the thread can push through... the hammer was a little heathen
Great video, love the idea, but Did I see right, you cleaned the top of the spacer ring with the alcohol wipe, then stuck it to the double sided tape on the base plate using the dirty greasy bottom side, leaving the nice clean side upper most?
I noticed that as well..........
Vice at the ready! 👍
I am not thinking it may be better to use the vice as a press with a socket on the backside to press the stud in ?
Looks like a good idea 👍 I also noticed new bumper cover, are you going to have them for sale?
Yes that is the sample from the tool - the parts are due in soon - its been a long time to get that product to market !
Ordered! Should help with loading the skis up. Can’t wait.
Now your showing off.... we just have rain here.... no snow !

Another great product and well thought out design - Definitely going to add to my list of accessories.
Great useful item! When will the walnut LHD Blank trim be back in stock?
If you have had the rear tow hoop powder coated prior to being installed will this effect the locating of the bottom washer?

@@L663 are you going to bring back the piano black steering wheel for the Discovery 3 with the sports grip? 🤔
Nice idea ... but banging that bolt thing in have you not just ruined the rust proofing integrity of the powder coat and zinc coating ???

Always innovating….
This is one of those things that was a solution to a problem we had found while using our Defender..
When we gonna see that winch used Simon?
You are correct - we spent more time fitting it than using it ....( OK we have actually not used it - it scares me ! )
Another idea…….shovel or axe mounts on the bottom of the table that you are designing
I'd like to see the bottom of the step after that "tap" :)
Why not put the captive bolt through the step then put the sticky pad on without the hole in it?

I wish the rear sill was 90º ish like on the D3 and D4, I don't know why it's so sloped on the L663
Totally agree ! and to make it worse they made the top smooth !
@@simonjefferson is there a possibility of making a stick-on or drilled into the bumper treadplate that levels the surface?
Yes we are thinking of this...
I don’t have a vice or a lump hammer - can I order it pre-bashed ?
