Personally, I believe that African peoples of the diaspora should be supporting black-owned hair care companies. Clairol, Pantene, Suave, etc. are not dependent on black people to stay in business But black companies need the support of black people to stay in business. Also, one reason Herbal Essences shampoo irritated your scalp is due to the presence of palm oil. I have seen some petitions against the product since forests are endangered by companies that cut down forests to extract palm oil.

I've been loc'd 7.5 years and my favorite shampoos are Design Essentials' Oat Protein and Henna shampoo for clarifying and Moisture Retention Honey Creme shampoo for moisturizing. I do use conditioner and I have since day one of my loc journey. It's the Rosemary and Mint conditioner also by Design Essentials. It's water soluble and I haven't had any issues with it. My skin doesn't like most oils, so conditioner is a necessary step to help my locs retain moisture in between washes.

I've been locked for 14 years; Dr. Bonners Peppermint soap has been my staple. I will definitely look for the Suave shampoo for the quality and cost alone makes it a great buy. Thanks😊

I have been locked with my sisterlocks 11 years on 1/23/23. I still to this day do not use any conditioner. My sisterlocks are still shiny, bouncy, lightweight, so you don’t need to get conditioner in your locs. I am excited to continue to listen to the rest of your video. I’m currently 3 mins in.

Re: build up, if you’re thoroughly washing your hair on a regular basis, (for me that’s once a week) how much buildup could someone possibly have? The other thing is cream conditioners will naturally leave build up, water based leave-in was suggested by a beautician on another channel En Toi, o know everyone’s hair is different, but that’s working for me... leave-in conditioner on my locs was a game changer & I still was weekly, and I wash the shaft of my locs as well...

Thank you so much!!! I was ready to throw the towel in with these sisterlocks just shy of 3 months. I was given Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo and my scalp from the front to the middle was white. When I moved around I thought it was snowing.😂 I went to RUclips and viewed your video and you saved my locks. I purchased the Sauve shampoo and immediately saw the difference. My scalp is clean minus that awful buildup. Again, thank you so much.

  • @scribevibes

Always used suave. Glad to know it works for locs as well! Thank you!

  • @xapitec

I've been asking about conditioners for so long!!! Thank you! ❤❤

I have interlocked 4point to 2 point rotation. Locks from 8 to 12". Type 3c to 4a pretty much kinky straight hair with pretty fine straight hair on the perimeter. My locs are less than 6 monts and except for the perimeter they are locking up nicely. I tried quite a few shampoos ( i dont condition or use leave in conditioner) the two products that i like the best on my new baby locs are Carol's daughter goddess strength fortifying shampoo for weak hair and i only use the Moroccan treatment light oil for fine hair alcohol free. The shampoo does not strip my hair yet it leathers, hydrate and cleam my hair so well. I have so far no buildup, no dry hair and its silky but not coming loose. This is a winning combination for fine new locs.

I've been using Sauve from before I had locs mainly for the $ and especially before the loc community started talking about it. It's my go to #1 shampoo

Love suave , my new loctician recommended it about a year ago and o love it smells great and takes away all the build up . I used conditioner because I love to color my locks so they tend to get dry. Suave has a clarifying conditioner that is great , but I can’t find it in sores lately.

I love the Suave daily clarifying shampoo and the Shea Moisture JBCO I just locked my hair up for a second time and will be using them on my locs like I did for my loose hair 😊

I love the she moisture jbco. Been growing my locs for 4 years now and I love it and I use the conditioner as well and it works great for me. I do have sum baby locs on my sides since I freeform and I’ll b jus using the shampo prolly for another half a year to a year before I use sum conditioner again jus to see if it helps. But I love jbco as well as the peppermint oil great for hair growth and density

Believe it or not I use creme of nature shampoo and leave in conditioner, works wonders for me... my other favorite, Suave, has always been a great shampoo for me over the years, with great scents, but I haven’t used it with my locks as yet...
