I was at this game..17-17 at halftime and we all thought shootout then Miami shut them out in the 2h to win 27-17.. I saved all my money from my job for season tickets and to be able to go to a playoff game.. an Montana's last game.. what an amazing memory
Very underrated game. A great duel by 2 hall of fame quarterbacks. Also a great coaching job by Shula in the second half shutting down Montana and the Chiefs offense.
Drew Brees or Matt Ryan could've been Marino's replacement, and if Nick Saban weren't such a douchebag he could've been Shula's replacement. Andy Reid was also available after 2011 but the lame Dolphins chose Joe Philbin.
I remember going to this game. 12 years old. I sat right behind the goal line. Almost exactly behind where Montana threw his 1st TD. Montana's final game... Memories....
Watching this now,u can tell Marino was in some pain,he kinda willed them to this win,I think he knew this was his last legit shot at gettin back to the SB,even tho he won a couple more playoff gms neither time they were good enough, but here in 94 they had just as good a shot as any AFC contender that season!!
You know the funny thing is... this game was Joe Montana's final game in his career. Montana was the last Chiefs QB to win a home playoff game until 2019. The next Chiefs QB to win a home playoff game was Patrick Mahomes who was BORN exactly 9 months after this Chiefs Dolphins game. Exactly 9 months later. Think about that. It was as if Mahomes was created the night Montana played his last game. 🤔
This was a solid team in every department. Our RB's were not household names bu they got the job done. Having a franchise QB helps too. Lets hope that Flores can get it right ?
It was a 47 yard field goal. Wide right. I remember every single play from that game. Had it recorded on VHS. Up 21-6 at halftime. I too have never gotten over that game. Still haunts me and breaks my heart till this very day.
@@brandonsavitski I was at the Murph that day. Drove down from Ventura and just punished myself listening to the Chargers postgame show on radio driving home. We couldn't stop Means and I think we had the ball for like one series in the entire third quarter.

I use to follow the game and players like Montana, Marino, Allen up until about 1993. Never saw this. Good game. Enjoyed. All the old vets played well, as if they were years younger, though Montana's screw-up of the goal-line interception at 17:54 and then Allen getting the ball stripped at 18:49 turned the game against them. A Marino super quick release example at 11:17. Montana said in retirement that his vote for the best pure passer ever (not necessarily the best quarterback ever) would be Marino. Looks like they searched either other out for the final handshake at 22:45. One other thought on this clip: any time I see game footage today I find it difficult to listen to commentators because they all sound like hysterical pro-wrestling commentators, making over-excited noises for ten year olds. Seeing old clips on youtube with level-headed adult commentators like Frank Gifford and Pat Summerall reminds me how I could actually enjoy watching games back then. The only commentator who was guilty of being a bit over-excited back then was John Madden, but people forgave him that because he did it in his own inimitable but basically sensible way. Boom!
I’m sure someone already mentioned this, but I never knew that the Chiefs played the Dolphins in this matchup. It’s so ironic how the football Gods work: Joe Montana beat Dan Marino’s sole legitimate chance to win a Super Bowl, and Dan Marino won the game that ended Joe Montana’s career
Montana never had a killer arm. He had an accurate arm, quick thinker and cool under pressure. Never a super strong arm . Now Marino did have a killer arm.
Had to be at least a little solace for Marino that he was the one to send Montana off into the sunset considering Joe denied him his only chance at a Super Bowl title and that Dan was always compared unfavorably to him throughout his career.
The 4 Super Bowls to 0, the superior playoff record and better team success that Montana had was always hung over Marino's head by the media and NFL during their playing days. Montana was considered at the time the best ever and Marino was considered a guy who put up a bunch of meaningless stats.
The people who know football know Marino was the best passer ever, and had he been on teams as good as Montana, he'd have won as much. No disrespect to Montana, but there's no comparison physically between him and Marino. Dan far superior there.
I'm a huge Dolphins fan and loved this win. But how in the hell did Al Davis let Marcus Allen go!? Allen's dishing out punishment to Dolphins defenders this entire clip.
Fun fact: This was Montana's last game. The last game of the season was played in Miami.....Where his little brother.. Steve Young broke his record in Super Bowl XXIX...

I stopped watching american football several decades ago and recently started watching mostly games and highlights from that era : the late 1980s to the early 2000s . Question : it seems that most of the fine running backs for the past 25 years are shorter(not at all sayin thats a bad thing !) . What are the reasons for that ? please replies !!!
more compact physique does better to absorb body blows, plus shorter backs tend to be shiftier in tight spaces and are harder to find when they're running behind their blockers.
3:50 the lateral two or three seconds later was awesome , but could have been lost. dangerous attempt that early in the game, but it worked . i wonder if Miami practiced that sort of thing ?
Emo - I could be wrong but I doubt they practised it. For me plays such as this, although great when work, say to me that Shula was losing it as a disciplinarian. I can't imagine for example a Bill Parcels coached team trying that. The Dolphins lateralled a few times in 1994. They almost fumbled trying it against San Diego in the next playoff game. Shula was a great coach but his famous disciplinarian style fell away in the last few years of his tenure. This led to certain players taking advantage and missing practises (such as Eric Green) and the 95 team under performed leading to his retirement. A huge shame.
